Left on 05/09/2013 for a stay in May 2013
We loved everything about the Green Flash - the view, the birds flying at eye level with us, the beach and warm water, the fishing off the beach, stand up paddleboards rented for the week, kyaking, kids loved the pool, kitchen stocked by Sandie, comfortable beds, golf carts to tour around in and the grouper tacos at pool bar.

This is our second time to North Captiva Island and our first time to the Green Flash. We truely enjoy all that the island has to offer, with three little girls we went shelling, fishing, and played at the Island Club playground and pool. During our stay there in the beginning of March we were unable to use the house pool since it was in the shade almost the entire day and it was during a cooler period in the 70's so the pool was unable to warm up. The house fit our family nicely and the views were beautiful several days we saw dolphins off the balcony or along the beach. Currently the house next door is being built and the workers are there 6 days a week from 7:15- 4:30 so there is not the "peaceful" island feel of just the birds and no noise that we had the last time that we so enjoyed. Overall we had a great time again on the island.

Although we visited in the low season, the staff, service and accomodations were excellent. The on line pictures of the Green Flash were very accurate. A true "Island experience" without having to leave the country. We will be back next year.

This was our 3rd year at N. Captiva and once again we had a great time!! We stayed at The Green Flash which is now my dream home !! The entire staff was the best including the gentlemen who dropped off our luggage. He actually helped us carry our food and luggage to our kitchen!!
We rented a boat from Bobs/Barnacles and the staff couldn't have been nicer!! We saw manatees just about everyday along with dolphins, turtles and raccoons. I didn't get to see the bobcats but maybe next year!
We definitely will return next year and hopefully with my entire family! -

We realy enjoyed our stay at the Green Flash. It's proximety to the beach and prevailing winds keep the mesquitos at bay and provide for great veiws and easy access. The sunsets were amazing. We have looked at many homes on the island but only a few had gulf views, a pool, and the multiple bedrroms we needed. We would deffinately stay here again. Be prepared to walk the stairs. The kitchen is on the 3rd floor and that represents about 75% of what you packed.

Left on 06/13/2012 for a stay in June 2012
The North Captiva Island Club knows how to take care of it's customers! From the time we arrived at the ferry checkin facility on our first day until the time we arrived back on the mainland at the end of a perfect week, we were treated well. Joseph helped us with our luggage and groceries in the midst of a huge rainstorm our first night and was always smiling.
The Green Flash accommodated our family of 6 adults and 2 little girls with room for all. Small maintenance problems were quickly and efficiently taken care of. The pool was a wonderful alternative to the beautiful beach which was right outside our door. We saw dolphins, manatees, tortoises, sea stars, sea urchins, hermit crabs, and a huge variety of tropical birds and flowers. The week ended with an amazing thunder and lightning storm during our last night. What a beautiful sight to end the week! -

The home was a beautiful home right on the water. The home was well equipped and in good condition. Our stove was not old but was not working properly but it was fixed during our one week stay. I would rent this property again.

BostonThe house has beautiful views but a run down and dirty interior.
Left on 04/05/2012 for a stay in March 2012
The Green Flash has a fantastic location with incredible views of the ocean. However, the interior is run down and dirty. The floors were dirty as evidenced by my crawling ten month's old filthy clothes within a half an hour of arrival. The bed linens were thin, pilling, unwashed appearing and unpleasant smelling especially the comforters. The couches and bar stool fabric was stained and uncleaned looking. The oven was broken. The pots had peeling Teflon interiors. The oven did not work and remained broken despite maintenance calls. The washing machine smelled bad and the dryer took hours to dry the clothes until maintenance came to fix it. The shower curtains were filthy and badly in need of soap scum removal. The house needs a good cleaning with more attenion to detail including baseboards, floors, shower walls and toilets. There was poison ivy along the path to the beach. These things could easily be fixed and a future stay would be far more comfortable.
On a more positive note, the grill was new and functioning, the pool was clean and lovely, the porches were terrific with nice furniture and fantastic views. -

We had a wonderful time at the Green Flash. The views were our favorite part along with the proximity to the beach. We loved listening to the waves at night, and watching the sunsets. The kitchen was supplied with every possible item we could have thought of. The water pressure in the showers was low and the beds (pillows, mattress and sheets) could have been of a higher quality given the overall fantastic house. We spent a great deal of our time on the fabulous ocean front porch, eating our meals, reading and playing games.

Left on 02/22/2012 for a stay in February 2012
Fabulous house on a fabulous island. Step out of reality and into island time. 2 very minor points- there are a lot of stairs in this house, it is not one for anyone with mobility problems, and I wouldn't really recommend it for anyone with very young children either (our youngest was 5, he was fine) and take plenty of supplies as the island shop is expensive! Other than that, a beautiful house in a great location, just a couple of steps from the beach, stunning views, clean, well equipped and the pool is a great plus as well.

House and views were unbelievable. We all enjoyed our family trip, especially swimming with the dolphins and kayaking to the sand bars in the ocean. Only downfall was getting from the kitchen to the outdoor space to grill and swim. It would be great to utilize the garage space on lower level for a half bath and a small kitchen area. Overall, a wonderful trip and friendly staff. We will be back! Thanks Kayla for your time and patience.

GeorgiaAwesome View!
Left on 12/15/2011 for a stay in December 2011
Traveled to North Captiva for the first time Dec 2011; it brought to mind "Gilligan's Island" but with lots of luxuries! Love that there are no cars on the island; the views and weather were perfect; not sure if we were lucky, but highs in low 80's while we were there. Enjoyed taking out a sea kayak, the beach, shelling, home and pool. Disappointed that the excursions did not run-dolphin cruise and fishing (needed a min. to go out) Pine Island Taxi was great, they picked us up at the airport and made stops for groceries and seafood (pre-ordered). Our ferry boat captain was also great and on our trip back to Pine Island he veered off to run with the dolphins for a while (this helped to make up for the lack of the excursion). Would love to have seen some manatee!
Our home was very nice; just as advertised, but expensive for two people; would like to have seen owners pro-rate depending on the number in your party. The master bedroom mattress also needs to be replaced, that was a bummer to have to sleep in one of the other rooms and not be able to take advantage of the master suite due to the trampoline like mattress.Pool was great and grill worked which was also great as we cooked the fresh seafood we had picked up at andy's Seafood in Matlache. The restaurants on the island are hit and miss for being open so is best to bring your food. Only stayed three nights; if we ever return would like to stay a min of 6. Would like to take family but would want to make sure excursions would be running. -

This was one of our best experiences on vacation. We went for our niece's wedding and it turned out beautifuly. The house was spectacular with it's gulf view and it was truly a one of a kind holiday. A special thanks to Jeff and Kayla and all the wonderful staff of the club who made us feel special including our Captains and their mates.

Painesville, OHGreat Island experience
Left on 09/29/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We stayed at The Green Flash which in our opinion had the best location on the island. The views were phenomenal and the house was just gorgeous. We took advantage of the complimentary kayaks, bikes and the tennis court. We spent a couple of days at the main pool and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Every staff member we met except for one of the female bartenders was extremely helpful and friendly. We ate at the Boathouse on our last night and the food was phenomenal!!! The portions were huge, and the seafood was fresh. Well worth our money. Our only complaint was the noseeum's which were constantly biting us. We realize that they are prevalent this time of year and this is out of anyone's control. Overall, this was a fantastic vacation spot for unwinding and appreciating the beauty of creation!

BradentonGreat location with horrible service from the top down!!!
Left on 08/26/2011 for a stay in August 2011
While the location and island are perfect the service at Captiva Island is so questionable that I am looking elsewhere for my next boating vacation.
I have never really encountered such disregard for customers needs. For the most part I actually felt that by asking staff to do something that I was bothering them. The staff was so relaxed it was as if they were on vacation too.
It is my understanding that the owner lives on the island; therefore, I can come to no other conclusion than this is a top down problem. If the problem starts at the top then there is little hope for improvement.
Very sad for a place that could have such promise.Response from North Captiva Island Club - 08/27/2011

I spoke with guest to try and understand why he was not satisfied with our services. He replied that he had trouble with checkin and checkout as well as issues with reaching us. All his issues ended up happening due to not completing his travel plans in advance. The guest was hard to reach and did not resond to our multiple requests for his arrival and departure information. They arrived after office hours and waited for a while until the guest service showed up from a previous scheduled checkin. All and all, the customer said the house was great and there were no issues with this property other than a broken chair.

IowaSuper Fantastic and Delightful
Left on 08/24/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Vacation heaven. The minor glitches were not enough to dampen our delight in both our house "The Green Flash" and North Captiva Island Club. The glitches were: It took them three days to get us a blow up mattress so one family member had to sleep on the couch, we were given a pretty ratty second golf cart (at $35 a day) they did replace it, and our dryer wasn't drying our clothes and it took 3 days to get fixed. The kitchen could be better equipped. There were 9 of us in the house and we had to borrow some baking and cooking items from a different house a friend was staying in. A dvd library would have been nice to have too.
On the up side, the house is beautiful. The view from the house is breathtaking. The atmosphere is totally laid-back. We were literally steps to the gulf, and when we were done playing in the surf, we jumped in our own pool. We rented a boat for a day and went island hopping. So much fun!!
Everyone we dealt with was polite and helpful, although some things took too long in being corrected.
This was our second trip to the island, but our first in the Green Flash. We can't wait to get back. This is the perfect place for my family to vacation. We want to relax, play and explore. No "attractions", no nightlife, no hurrying or lines to stand in. Just a private beach, quaint restaurants, home cooking and chilling at our private pool.
With the exception of the few problems listed, this was a perfect vacation experience. I can't say enough about how special this place really is. I can't even imagine a place we could love more, so we don't even look for other places to visit. But don't tell everyone. We want it to stay a bit of a secret! -

TennesseeGreat Experience
Left on 07/06/2011 for a stay in June 2011
Yes it was a wonderful experience for all 10 of us. The house is excellant. We saw dolphins and manatee swim by the house from the deck. Sunsets were spectacular! The beach right in front of the house made it very nice for the young children. The pool was clean and well provided with toys for the children. Everything in the house was well maintained and good working order. Sarah Rapp was an excellant host. When we were without beach towels she came throught with plenty.
We kayaked with the dolphins. Had a great time fishing. This is a unique vacation setting that you won't be disappointed in. The only negative thing is the people at North Captiva Island club. They were generally not very friendly(not all of them). When we arrived at the marina wait station we were greeted with a "you are way to early for the boat, just park out in the street" Not a hello or welcome. On the island several of the island club staff were very cold and unfriendly. This was a turn off to an otherwise great vacation. Getting off the island seemed like mass confusion. We were told to have the luggage ready for pick up at 8 am. By 9 am no one had yet picked up our luggage. The boat to shore was to leave at 9 am. We called the front desk and they said we were next for pick up and the boat would leave at 9:30. It would have been nice if someone would have called us to tell us this.
So go for the beauty of the island and the wonderful setting. Ignore the service and you will have a wonderful vacation at this beaufiful home. Our entire family had a great time.

This house right on the Gulf of Mexico is a wonderful place to stay. The views are just spectacular and it's pretty secluded. My family stayed 7 days and that wasn't enough for us. Next time I book, it will be this house and for 10 to 14 days. The pool was clean and refreshing. The house was clean and neat. You had access to every appliance you could think of in the house. The staff at the Ncic were courteous and friendly. I would rate this beach rental a 10 out of 10. Thanks Glenn !!

My family & I had an outstanding vacation on North Captiva Island. The Green Flash rental home was simply gorgeous offering us lots of comfort, incredible views, privacy, & I can go on & on! The staff at the Island Club were so friendly & accommodating! Boat captains were so much fun, we felt very welcomed to the Island. The beach was fabulous & the use of the Club's canvas chairs really made this tired back of mine feel pretty good on the beach. I absolutely loved the idea that there are no cars!!! The golf cart served us well, what a friendly & fun way to get around the Island. Our favorite restaurant was On the Waterfront, the chef was fun & he really knows how to cook! Shelling was outstanding & the sunsets breathtaking! I will definitely return to North Captiva, truly a wonderful discovery & adventure! Thank you so much!

Left on 03/24/2011 for a stay in March 2011
My husband and I traveled to North Captiva for our Honeymoon. It was very remote and quiet! Just what we needed after the stress of planning our wedding. There is a cafe that serves sandwiches, fries etc, a sit down restaurant that you have to make reservations for, a small convenience store and an ice cream shop. Don't plan to eat out every night if you stay here. You will definitely want to go to the grocery store and cook! I would also recommend getting bottled water-because it is well water. Our house we stayed in was perfect. It was on the beach-very clean and nice. We ate dinner every night watching the sunset. My husband fished during the day and I would lay out by the ocean. There are no paved roads-so you drive around on golf carts-which was a lot of fun. The staff were all very nice! Overall the stay the was very relaxing and quiet. The island is absolutely beautiful. My husband and I felt like we were in paradise. We are already wanting to plan a second honeymoon there!
