Staff at North Captiva Club are excellent. House was gorgeous on inside and very comfortable. Needed some minor repairs on outside but it's hard to keep up houses on the water! Only major issue was there was a huge rat living in the house. We realize that this happens on island homes, but the Staff was told about it by the previous renters yet didn't do anything about it or tell us until we called after a few days saying we a rodent was getting into the house and had done real damage to a rug. At that point they set a trap. We should have been told there was an issue when we arrived and given options (i.e. allow them to set a trap the first night)

In searching for this house to write a review I cam across a review from January that spoke about a urine smell on the third floor. I'll tell you its still there in March! The house, which I have stayed in at least 3 times, has become a run down property. The pictures on the website are from 10 years ago. There is so much deferred maintenance its sad. Fans don't work, gates falling off their hinges, walls need in painting, chairs needed in upholstery, carpet worn out. Its a wreck.
The kitchen is large but the pans are ancient and nothing matches. The trash compactor has never worked in the years we stayed there, the subzero fridge/freezer is rusty, leaks (we made a maintenance request and they simply removed a shelf - seriously) and has only a few shelves left in the freezer.
They yard is a barren wasteland. It had been very verdant in the past. (The sprinkler system is obviously not running).
Linens were scares and dirty - see my photos of the bed linens with some sort of stains on it.
We had a rat in the kitchen and in the lower floor. The rat gnawed the bottom of the door in the kids room. Not a good scene in the morning.
The pool was in good shape.
The rest of the house should be avoided. -

New York, NYGreat House, Poor Service
Left on 03/20/2013 for a stay in March 2012
Our house was absolutely beautiful, clean, and located perfectly on the island. The only major problems we had was with service and the ferry rides. The office closes at 4pm every day so if you need anything at all it has to wait till the next morning. We were also treated very rudely by some of the ground staff.
Regarding the ferry system they need to re-evaluate how that works. Not only is it way overpriced, but the logistics of receiving your luggage is complicated and doesn't work. We had groceries sitting out in the hot sun for over an hour. We had to drive back to the resort and get them ourselves while employees openly drank and smoked instead of doing their job and delivering luggage and groceries.
The only good service we had was from Chef Dave at the Over the Waterfront restaurant. He was unbelievable and an incredible asset to the resort.
I was trying to get a family member onto the island and they told me it would be a $90 surcharge to get him there at 8pm. That is utterly ridiculous and anyone who knows boats knows that the ferry is overpriced and the resort is making a killing on that.
Overall we felt very "nickeled and dimed". -

Frostburg, MDExcellent experience
Left on 01/30/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We have been to North Captiva Island nearly every January since the late 90s. And this was our second stay in Beach Party, which is a wonderfully designed large 4br en-suite arrangement sitting virtually on the airstrip. The house also has an inclosed sky lounge, perfect for viewing the small plane traffic into and off the island. The kitchen is huge, there is an additional library sitting room, and a sports bar with full bar and an extra full size refrigerator and a wine cooler on the first level, and a large heated pool outside. Despite these considerable attributes and the untiring efforts of the Ncic resort staff to make our three week stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, the house is long overdue for renovation and upgrades, which detract from one of the more comfortable homes on the island.

The house has great potential. But, there were sooo many things broken or not functioning. The worst was when we got there the upstairs completely smelled like urine. As soon as we brought the attention to the management they resolved best they could immediately. But, just needs a lot of upkeep. The home is beautiful. Great view & fun to watch the airplanes come in & leave from the airstrip. Just wish didn't have so many maintenance issues. Everything else through the island club was flawless for the facilities, travel, etc.

Eustis Florida30th anniversary celebration
Left on 10/31/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We looked for something special to do for our 30th wedding anniversary and found it on No. Captiva Island at Pineapple Palms!!
Ncic staff was outstanding from the moment we tied off our boat in a slip to our departure from the same 2 weeks later.
We started out at "Beach Party" but had some gliches at the house we could not overcome (major safty issues with the railing on the decks and a large critter was living in the attic.) Once we brought this to the attention of Ncic we were moved to 209-Pineapple Palms. Wow what a house. we are grateful for the upgrade and were able to share our temporary "home" with family from Connecticut.
The island is a perfect spot to just relax and do nothing together.
Thanks again to the Ncic folks, they made our special celebration, exceptional.
We look forward to visiting again. -

We had another beautiful vacation on the island. Our family was relaxed and had a bonding experience, we brought our children and grandchildren with us.
We can't wait to return. The house was spacious and had a great view or airstrip and water. It did need some repairs but we enjoyed anyway. I would recommend the owners do some needed repairs, paint, and kitchen appliances for this to be a better experience

We had a wonderful vacation. We were joined by several family members who had rented another property, making it a family reunion. The house was very neat and clean and well stocked with kitchen items. We did have a problem with the blender but once reported we received a replacement within hours and we had to wait for propane to be delivered before using the grill. It should have been checked before arrival.
The island atmosphere was great. Golf cart rides could result in seeing interesting wild life. Bobcats, turtles, snakes. A wonderful "party" house. We were 8 adults but we could have accomodated a few more by utilizing air mattresses -

This was our fourth trip to North Captiva Island and we love it! The house is great because its big and very comfortable. The house needs maintenance, alot of it, the wood rails on the top are rotten and looks dangerous, the window treatments are old, the house is beautiful but needs remodeling. We had problmes because animals that we think were rats came inside during the night, when we were sleeping; we found droppings everywhere, they broke bottles that were on the countertop and we had people sleeping in the sofabed in the living room, so this made us very nervous..
this is something that needs to be resolved asap! -

Miami, FlBeutiful, well located home that needs updating
Left on 06/01/2012 for a stay in May 2012
This is a large home located next to the airfield and about 1 block from the beach. It is a beautiful home with 2 floors of living space. Our family of 8 stayed here during the Memorial weekend. On the first liveable floor there are 2 bedrooms and 2 and 1/2 bathrooms. Each bedroom has its full bathroom with one bedroom having a queen size bed and the other 2 twin. It has a kitchen, refrigerator which was not hooked up for ice but still useable. There was no dishes, glassware, or any kitchen equipment on that level. The top level had the useable kitchen with all equipment (pots/pans, dishes, etc.)The kitchen had exactly 6 mixmatched drinking glasses and we had to request more from the club which we didnt get until the next day. The top level has an additional 2 bedrooms with own full bath with king size beds. All the TVs throughout the house are old and not able to fully use the functions of digital tv's. Most of the remotes require that you use one remote for power and another for volume and channel changing. Some do not work to turn on and off tvs so getting up is required. There are no beach towels or beach chairs and the furnishings and linens were a bit stained and old. While the club ultimately provided us with all the missing items in the house. It took until the next day after arriving to settle this matter and many telephone calls. Not a great start to our vacation. In addition we lost a piece of luggage which was not delivered to the home with all the others and as of the end of the week after our departure I have not received a response from the club to my inquiries. I have stayed in different homes on this Island for 3 years and this was the most negative experience I have ever had.

Thank you for your review. We apologize for not providing the replacement glasses until the next day, but they had to be purchased off island and they were only discovered late the first day. Beach towels are not usually provided and so stated on this properties website, but because the Tv's were not working correctly and the glassware was missing, we did want to make sure you enjoyed the rest of your stay. Also, since all your correspondences went to the travel agent, the missing bag inquiry went thru the agent and we are still waiting on a response on verification of luggage.
Update: It seems we did misplace the aerobed so we ordered one and had it shipped to the guest. The guest thanked us for the follow up. -

Spacious...pool was great...would definitely rent it again. Service was good. We had problems with the tv and the technician sent to fix it. He was rude and basically acused us for the problems. We called on day one..day two...and finally day three he came...never got the main family room tv working...said he was going to get a code and would be back...he never returned. Who needs tv anyway...such a beautiful place. Loved the views...planes taking off and landing right in front of us was awesome and in no way annoying...very infrequent. We also loved how close to the beach we were...a beautiful couple of minutes stroll. Deck needed some TLC...lots of splinters and stubbed toes...small items in the kitchen were needed like spatula, which we ordered and did not ever receive. Don't fear we did leave pool toys and cork screw. Overall it was a great experience and very well organized.

Left on 06/23/2011 for a stay in May 2011
This was our first family vacation in many years. My daughter, son in law and 3 grandchildren flew in from NY and my other 3 sons and 2 girlfriends came with us as well. My wife and I planned for every detail, packing dry goods and supplies and labeling boxes in waterproof wrappers. Our trip was to be perfect and after we got to the Beach Party house it was. The house is amazing and we felt at home instantly! The pool was also perfect and safety access fence was more than we could hope for with small children. It is unfortunate that our only means of travel was to be a boat rented from Paradise Boat Rentals in Cape Coral and they proved to be incredibly unethical and their boat, not the boat we confirmed and paid for, was unreliable. That small detail ruined much of our vacation. North Captiva is magical. The house was magnificent... just make sure the small details are just as carefully planned. We will be back in North Captiva again soon and we look forward to enjoying everything it has to offer... minus the "bait and switch" boat rental.

House was great - spacious and roomy. We especially liked the open feel. Kitchen nice and well stocked with dishes/utensils. Would have been nice to have two more twin beds rather than a queen (this would have been our preference considering the people there at the time). All in all, a wonderful experience.
A couple of the employees could have been a little friendlier and helpful, though. Otherwise, a great time. -

The house easily accommodated my extended family (including 8 children). The common spaces were great, the yard and pool were great and the bedrooms were all fine. The sleeper couches in the common areas weren't comfortable (even when we took the mattress off the couch). The house has a bad palmetto bug problem.

BostonDisappointing Experience
Left on 01/13/2011 for a stay in December 2010
This was our third visit to North Captiva - we love the island! Unfortunately, this time the house we selected for a large group of people was in disarray. The house and pool had not been maintained. The pool heater did not work and after numerous attempts to fix the problem it was finally replaced - two days before the end of our stay. The outside decks were rotten with exposed nails, large splinters etc with sections requiring blocking off to limit danger to guests. Mice ran across the floors, a rat and racoon were caught, the roof space was alive... Sofa bed springs were absent; no wine glasses, mixing bowls or salad bowls , 8 hangers were provided for 16 guests- the list was endless. Maintenance from Ncic did their best to rectify all the problems, however, the response was reactive. A proactive approach to property maintenance would have caught many of these problems before guest arrival. We have rented two properties from Ncic in the past and the houses were well maintained - unfortunately this house was not. On the positive side the private water taxi arranged from Ncic went smoothly, but the frustration of spending several days of ones vacation sorting out maintenance problems meant that our overall experience was disappointing.

This guest was issued a refund for her trouble. The pool heater was replaced with a brand new one. After there departure, the home was taken off the rental market and the next guest was moved. This gave us time to fix all the problems. The rat problem was taken care of, the rotted boards on the deck were replaced and the minor repairs and house goods were also taken care of.
