We stayed at the Little ark in February for our (private) wedding and honeymoon. The house was perfect for the two of us. It was much larger than we expected, but not so large that it didn't feel private and intimate. It was also very clean and well-maintained.
We ate most of our meals outside on the screened-in porch listening to the birds and the surf.
During the days, we went out in our golf cart and on bikes to explore the island. We also went kayaking at the Club. We collected dozens of shells and saw lots of wildlife. When we got back to the house, we would jump in the pool. The pool was very clean & heated just enough to make it comfortable and refreshing. After dinner we watched the sunset, then headed up to the roof to relax in the hot tub under the stars!
North Captiva is beautiful, natural, and very relaxing. We were married in a simple, private ceremony on the nearby beach at sunset by a retired minister who lives on the Island--thanks to the Little ark owner Marie for putting us in touch with him!
Marie was also very responsive to issues with the house. One evening we realized that the generator for the golf cart wasn't working. We emailed Marie before we went to bed, and the next morning, before we got up, the generator had been replaced.
Just bring a couple of bathing suits, a few pair of shorts and t-shirts, and a sweatshirt, plus plenty of food and drinks. The house has a washer and dryer and plenty of towels, and even the nicest restaurant on the Island is quite casual. So you don't need much in the way of clothes. However, if you run out of food and drinks, the only convenience store is very small and doesn't offer much.
We hated to leave and are thinking about going back to celebrate our first anniversary! -

Marie provided first class customer service from start to finish, one of the best rental experiences I have ever had. She gave us plenty of tips on preparing for our stay. Stopping at andy's Fish Market before getting on the ferry made our meals fantastic! She met us at the dock, helped with our luggage and showed us points of interest on the drive to the home. The house was clean, comfortable and well stocked (can't beat a sleep number bed!). The location felt very private, we felt like we were totally alone, even on the pool deck which is close to the road. The pool was clean, warm and had the best floating loungers I've ever used. The outdoor shower was great, made it easy and refreshing to wash off the sand after being on the beach and before getting in the pool. It can be a little windy on the roof top deck, but we still managed to enjoy the hot tub (once again; clean and warm). Loved going up there to watch the sunset, although sitting on the beach at sunset is awesome. The walk through the nature preserve to practically deserted beaches was phenomenal. There's nothing like having a stretch of beach all to yourselves! We didn't use any of the restaurants or boating excursions as we came to just decompress and truthfully, just didn't want to leave The Little ark! This is definitely the place to relax and enjoy 'island time' and worth the extra effort to prepare for your stay.

50207Fabulous get away

My husband and I needed to get away from the soccer practices, music lessons, Girl Scout activities, Spanish classes and everything else we do with/for the kids. I found The Little ark and surprised my husband for his birthday in January. We had a great time hiking, collecting shells, kayaking, watching the dolphins, and walking along the beach. It is not easy getting to North Captiva for us: plane ride, taxi, boat taxi and the golf cart all in one day to be exact. Marie helped us with all the plans and even filled the fridge to make things easy. We made dinner reservations each night (if you don't, they may not open), and found the quiet and seclusion of the island and the house just wonderful. Marie has a jacuzzi on the roof to watch stars at night and a heated pool in the back for warm days. The house is located near the beach and nature preserve (3 houses from it-load up the gold cart and ride it over) . We had a lovely time. The quiet was wonderful. Loved the sleep number bed. It was just like home. Everything was clean and tidy with lots of fun things like bikes, beach chairs, shovels/pails, swim rafts, beach towels, etc. Marie made it very easy to relax and take it all in. Would recommend to friends. Would go back, especially in the off season when all is quiet.

The house was perfect for our vacation the location on the island is a stones throw from what I consider the best beach on the island.
the house has all the amenities you need for a great vacation, the pool and hot tub means you don't have to take a trip to the island club to take a dip and cool down.
The owner Marie was fantastic and the service she provides is second to none I cannot praise her enough for the shopping she did for us.
the island is a wildlife watchers paradise with Manatees Dolphins Tortoises and the birdlife is second to none we even witnessed baby turtles being released, the fishing is great with plenty of table size fish to be caught for the BBQ.

A surreal and beautiful Island. Magnificent home, beautiful sunset views from roof terrace, nice pool we had the pleasure of meeting Kevin and Marie, which only added to the pleasure of our vacation. We hope to return to the Island, and this house would be our first choice.

The Little ark was perfect for our family of four! The accomodations were extremely clean and the home is well furnished. The private pool was perfect for us as we were traveling with small children. The home is very close to the beach. We enjoyed leisurely dinners on the screen porch at sunset. We also enjoyed the numerous turtles and birds that would frequently visit the property and fishing off the beach

First of all, Marie was a complete delight to work with! She takes great pride in her home and provides the utmost in Customer Service. Her hospitality was above and beyond my expectations. She was very helpful in answering questions we had, not that there were many, as she provided an abundance of info and helpful tips to make our stay the best vacation Ever! As a family we were looking for a quiet get away week. Having never been to North Captiva previously we were intimidated by how to get to the island with a family and all provisions for a week. After speaking with Marie she put the mind at ease with her customer service. She provide all the contact information for transportation to the island and the huge benefit by providing grocery shopping service at no charge. Marie met us on the island with our golf cart and took us to the house. The house was extremely well maintained and spotless. The kids loved the pool during the day and in the evening we spent in the hot tub watching the fabulous sunsets. The beaches were secluded and we found an abundance of huge sanddollars. As we left on the boat we were already planning our next trip. If you are looking for a relaxing get away to spend time with your family, this is an ideal location. Marie thank you for your superior customer service and allowing us to enjoy your paradise for a week.
