Great house on a beautiful street

We really loved this house, which was perfect for our family of 4. Very close to the beach on one of the nicest streets on the island. Kids loved monitoring comings and goings from the air strip. New appliances in kitchen with good work space (though needs under cabinet or a task light). Excellent kitchen supplies/dishes. The only TV is in Lr--no TVs in either bedroom, only bluray in kids' room. Nicely updated baths. Very small, very dark living/dining area, which could be made more comfortable with larger or additional sofas, or some easy chairs. Wonderful screened porch with fans. W/D under the house and washer lid is rusted out, but still worked fine if you don't mind taking the risk of rust in your load. Bring dishwasher & laundry detergent as they did not provide enough, though you may be able to ask for extra for a fee. A/C and hot water worked great. Don't need to bring or rent beach or bath towels--both in the linen closet--but maybe not hand towels or wash cloths. Wifi worked fine in the house; password on bottom of router. 4 beach chairs were provided. Most negatives were related to the service from Ncicr, but those did not affect our opinion of Ruby Gardens. Our family had a wonderful week at Ruby Gardens. The house is very clean and we were thrilled with the new appliances in the kitchen. The tropical trees and foliage all around the house give a lot of privacy. The golf cart was in good working order and the house came with beach towels and new beach chairs. The best part about the house was its location so near the beach. We easily walked back and forth to the beach all day. A great vacation stay! Read more

Great Beach and Fishing - Nice Beach House
Left on 03/20/2013 for a stay in March 2013 | CP & GP
The accommodations are exactly what we expected for a beach island home. If you are a solo couple or just have 2 kids this is a great value for where you are. most of the bad reviews I read before going were from people expecting the Ritz Carlton Resort but that is not what this is. You are not at a resort but an individual, clean well equipped home on the beach. This house was a short walk (3 minutes) to the beach and close to the resturants, shops and marina. Everyone has a golf cart and honestly everything is close. Try driving your golf cart down Rum Road till you reach a fence with a walk only gate. Take the trail to the end and find a beautiful remote beach with great fishing also, caught some sea trout and had a great time. The resturants are not great, give them a try, so plan on eating in mostly. Only complaint is the Internet was not great but talking to other people this was the case for the entire island not just our house, we used our apple TV and it worked 50% of the time. Great vacation that will not be forgotten like most of the many resort trips we have gone on, this is different in a good way.

Quiet, relaxing vacations are not usually our thing, but we wanted to try something new. Ncic was great. If you are looking to get away and relax, I doubt there is many better options. Ruby Gardens was the property we stayed at and it was good. We had everything we needed. Construction was going on next door, but they were as quiet as possible and really didn't disturb us. The views from the roof were great. Appliances were good. Nice place to relax. Beaches are just down the way. Short cart ride or walk.

North Captiva is my favorite vacation spot. Everything, except the boat ride over, was as expected. The boat was filled with vacationers obviously on their first trip to the island. Their party-boat behavior and attempts to delay the bus because of late family members was frustrating. Walking around the boat during the trip over and constantly being told to stay away from the boat's throttle was over the top.
On our last night, my girlfriend missed the last step of the spiral staircase that resulted in a gash in her ankle. The fire department was prompt and help prep her wound for her visit to the hospital the next day for stitches.

The house had a very different smell in it,Not a good one. The water had a stong smell of sulfur. I had cockroaches on the counter when I entered the home. The shower down stairs never worked. The island and people where great, but the house was not a positive one for me. I would come back, but I wouldnt stay at this house. I have a friend and his wife coming in Feb. I sold them on the island, but a different house.
