Description from the owner

An Taigh Fiodh (the Wooden House) is a self-catering apartment on the island of Grimsay in the Outer Hebrides/Western Isles.

The luxurious, fully-equipped accommodation is on two floors and occupies one end of an original, architect-designed house (built 2006) with beautiful views overlooking the bay. It is approximately three miles off the main north-south road through the Uists.

The area is rich in wildlife and places to explore, from lochs and harbours to miles of unspoilt beaches. An Taigh Fiodh provides a comfortable base to come home to after days spent walking, fishing, bird watching or just soaking up the scenery.

      Small is beautiful

Left on 09/20/2012 for a stay in August 2012

An Taigh Fiodh is a wonderful Scandinavian style property. The apartment, about a third of the whole house, (the other part being occupied by the owner), was ideal for my wife and I to escape for a week. The upstairs open plan bedroom, with electrically operated bed, connects by staircase to the downstairs lounge/dining area in which there is a cupboard, (yes, a purpose built and very attractive designer cupboard!), containing the two ring hob, sink and fridge. There is access to the shower/toilet also on the ground floor.
Because cooking is limited to two hobs and a microwave it may be helpful to pre-plan menus although there are places to eat within a few miles.
A big attraction of staying in to eat is being able to appreciate the stunning views of lochs and moorland from the dining area at the end of the lounge. Even in the rain the views are beautiful, extraordinarily so when it's fine and sunny.
The property is very well equipped, not just in the kitchen department either, because even slippers are provided! (You could of course bring your own because you won't want to put muddy boot-marks across the spotless floor!)
The proprietor was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. The house cat, (definitely not allowed in the apartment we were advised), was equally friendly and proved to be entertaining with acrobatic displays at attempts to open doors!
Undoubtedly this is one of the best places we have ever stayed in during many decades of self-catering experiences.
