Description from the owner

Keeper's Cottage is a very cosy & comfortable 2 bedroom cottage of character for 2 to 4 people in Gillamoor - an unspoiled North York Moors National Park working farm village.

The cottage is set in 2 acres of grounds with 2 paddocks and an orchard and also has a private garden with outdoor seating & BBQ. There are wide views across our own paddock to the Howardian Hills in the distance. Yet we are right in the village centre, overlooking the village green and only 50yds from the Royal Oak, our quiet country pub & restaurant serving excellent food wine & beers. Although perched on the edge of the North York Moors, Gillamoor has easy a...Read more

The North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Heritage Coast (Scarborough, Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay) form the regional setting for Keeper's Cottage. In season, Farndale's show of daffodils and The Moors' cover of heather are irresistible attractions for visitors from the four corners of the world. We are delighted that you have enjoyed your stay despite the weather. Hope that the wood burner compensated for the cold wind.

      Quiet Retreat.

Left on 03/23/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We were met by the owners (next door) Joan & Keri who showed us round the cottage and made us feel welcome The cottage was exactly as we expected from the information given on their web site, It was spotlessly clean and very well appointed. The owners have recently had a new bathroom installed which incorporates a powerful walk in shower. The central heating and endless supply of logs ensured we had a very comfortable and cosy week. The weather was extremely wintry having snow on 5 days out of 7 but this just added to a very enjoyable week. Just across the road is the Royal Oak which we can strongly recommend for friendly atmosphere and very good meals. The village is very quiet and the area not only has numerous walks from the cottage but is an ideal base for exploring the gems of North Yorkshire.
Thank you to Joan & Keri, an enjoyable week in a very cosy cottage, I am sure we will return.

It was a pleasure to have you stay with us. We are really glad that the arctic conditions were no match for the wood-burner!

      Home from home

Left on 09/02/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Just returned from a lovely stay in Keepers cottage.

We were given a very warm welcome on our arrival and were very pleased to find a lovely clean and warm cottage for our weeks stay.
We found the cottage very well equiped with everything we needed and with enough space for us and our two small children.
The location is wonderful, peaceful and tranquil with the benefit of being on the doorstep of the moors. We didn't get the best weather during our stay but still found plenty of things for the family to do and stay dry.
I would highly recommend the cottage for couples and familys who are looking for a quiet break, we found it perfect for our needs and excellent value for money.
      Thank you Joan & Kerri!
Ps. Being a stones throw from the local pub was a bonus too!

Perfect holiday cottage in peaceful, rural setting.

Left on 06/03/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We again found Keepers Cottage to be the perfect place for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.
It is well located for visiting the coast and York ,many interesting walks can be started from the doorstep. The cottage is very clean and well equipped and has eveything one could want for a comfortable break. The Royal Oak over the road serves excellent, reasonably priced food which saves having to cook after a busy day out ! The owners who live next door are very friendly and helpful without being intrusive.
We have been coming to this cottage for seven years and every time have been absolutely delighted to be back.

Perfect weekend in perfect cottage in perfect location...

Left on 03/28/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Just returned from a wonderful weekend in Keepers Cottage. The accommodation is very clean, spacious and well-equipped with plenty of room for damp waterproofs and muddy boots - not necessary on our weekend thank goodness!. As well as indoors it has a great outdoors as well - paddock with plenty of room for play or to just sit & relax - reading or simply listening to the birds. The owners are just next door if you need anything - they were very friendly - but without being at all intrusive!
The pub is just next door and there are plenty of gorgeous villages to walk or drive to for food & refreshment if you don't want to cater for yourself. All in all, could not have been better - and was extremely reasonably priced.

      Tranquility at its best

Left on 03/26/2012 for a stay in March 2012

This beautiful accommodation, along with lovely friendly owners is an excellent get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Peace and tranquility in a bottle. Sit out in the garden, listen to the birds and daydream your day away or like us seize the best of both worlds a little daydream followed by fabulous walks just waiting on the door step. Then to top it all, after a long walk, what could be more inviting than the local welcoming pub, which serves delicious food and real ales. The pub is virtually a stones throw away. Definitely a hidden gem and great that you can book for a weekend. All four of us (walking friends) thoroughly enjoyed it and hopefully will be back. No local shop in village but other villages are only a 10 minute drive away. Have already recommended to friends on our walking group but maybe a mistake - will we get back again or will it be fully booked?
