The Shearwater Cottage is a 100+ year old cottage in the heart of Bayside village in Northport, Maine that has been completely renovated, but it still has that old cottage feel, especially the covered porch with antique string lights for summer fun. It is truly the WAY LIFE SHOULD BE in Bayside, Maine.
It has five bedrooms and three completely renovated bathrooms. The cottage has 2 bedrooms with king size beds, 2 rooms with two twins and a third bedroom with an old fashioned rope bed, an awesome covered porch on the first floor where you will spend ALL your time with a waterview to the swim dock and bay.

Shearwater Cottage is in the historic district of Bayside Maine and approximately 700 feet from the village wharf in the Penobscot Bay complete. The wharf comes complete with swim float with lifeguard and a dingy dock. Rental moorings are available along with a town beach for storing your kayaks. There is a golf course within walking distance and sailing school available for the kids on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.

Mike and Jen Lannan are the perfect hosts. They are available if you need them or will leave you to enjoy the serenity of Bayside. Mike was even kind enough to take us out on his boat to view some early morning wildlife. Bayside is a charming community on Penobscot Bay and Shearwater afforded sea views from the wonderful wraparound porch and a pleasant short stroll through the village to the bay. The sailing camp and swimming off the dock provided endless hours of fun for the children.

Shearwater Cottage is simply perfect!
The cottage is well appointed, immaculate, stylishly renovated, but maintains an authentic cottage feel.
All kitchens and bathrooms are well equipt with the comforts of home - including a dishwasher,garbage disposal, w/d & jacuzzi tub!
We enjoyed big family meals at the table (seats 12), and long morning coffees on the porch.
The bedrooms are cozy and clean. Lots of options for sleeping arrangements, and privacy.
The "in village" location is perfect. Our kids all ran freely to/from the dock & playground, perfectly safe and fun. Loads of kids at Bayside of all ages.
My family traveled to Bayside from outside Boston in just under 4 hrs. -

The level of renovation is wonderful, while the charm remains. The fixtures and furniture are perfect.
Considerations for perfection?
one room have a full or queen bed, admitting you lose flexibility.
More shelves and hooks in the downbstairs bathroom.
Window shades.
Insrtructructions laminated near each of the tv, stove and heating units.
We will rent again with pleasure. The neighbors were an issue (we are the neighbors and promise to behave).

Thank you for the suggested improvements. We have provided each new guest with list of the appliances and how they operate. We have added towel racks and shelves to the bathroom as suggested and hung shades in the new bedrooms. Thanks again for the suggestions. Mike

My family traveled to the cottage in the fall and spent a wonderful time. It was out of the summer (prime season), but it was the perfect place for us to get away from our busy lives and relax. We thoroughly enjoyed some of the Maine sights (the shore of Penobscot bay, dining in both Belfast and the little town about 20 min south (Lincolnville?)
The cottage was in great shape (clean and tidy) and we took advantage of its beautiful antique stove (refitted w/gas)and made some great meals.
I think the highlight of the trip for me was the opportunity to sit out on the porch and overlook the village, marina and the bay. Rocking in my chair and reading with a nice cup of coffee in the morning. Just doesn't get any better than that. I will be back.
