Nestled behind walls and fences, on top of the hill where the view of the Pacific Ocean is the best, you will find the "Pura Vida Studio", with plenty of room for one or two people. It is one of six apartments in the Casa-Banda Complex, a peaceful, tropical haven for grown-ups. No tenants or visitors younger than 18 and until age 25 only in the company of adults 25 years or older.
This medium -sized studio is beautifully decorated and very well equipped for comfortable living for any length of time.

Pura Vida Studio is located on top of the hill, above Playa Pelada, one of the three Nosara Beaches, just north of Playa Guiones.
A very good restaurant is within easy walking distance, even in the dark. You can walk to other restaurants, but we do not recommend coming back in the dark by foot.
The area is hilly, with dirt/gravel roads. In the rainy season, between mid-May and mid-November, 4x4 is necessary to get around.
It takes a little over 2 hours to drive from the airport in Liberia, 4-5 hours from the airport in San Jose.

I had an awesome extended stay at Casa-Banda during the "green" season this summer. The small resort is private, beautifully maintained with a perfect-sized, well kept pool (complete with pool toys!), manicured flora throughout, and hosts, Bibi and arne, are gracious, knowledgeable and truly inviting.
The spacious Pura Vida studio (with full kitchen!) was perfect, whether sitting on the huge terrace to watch the ocean tides come and go or watch the thunderstorms roar in from the comfort of my king size bed! It is a marvelous feeling to have an alarm clock of howler monkeys and happy bird calls to wake you each morning. Definitely in the "jungle", a short 20 min walk took me to the deserted and beautiful Playa Pelada beach where I could sun, walk or play in the waves for hours; I could also chose to visit the Nosara River mouth to watch the local fisherman and birds catch breakfast in the early morning hours. Being a photographer, I found endless opportunities to capture. Howler monkeys, intriguing birds, georgeous flowers or even ocean waves 10 feet high! My computer is definitely loaded down with shots I couldn't resist.
The Nosara town is about a 15 min drive away. Be sure to have a vehicle with 4WD as the roads are truly Costa Rican style! But what isn't an adventure in Costa Rica? In Nosara you have a large or small grocery store (both have lots of selection), gas station, bank (for those aTM withdrawals), restaurants with reasonable prices and good food (Rancho Tico and La Casona Restaurant and Bar are just two I enjoyed this trip, Lagarta Restaurant is just steps away from Casa-Banda with great food as well).
I feel like I am home and with my best friends next door at Casa-Banda. This is my second stay at Casa-Banda and I will definitely be back again!!

My husband and I stayed for a week at Pura Vida Studio in March 2011, and really enjoyed the experience. The apartment was the perfect size for a couple and well taken care of, with a gorgeous view of the water and a spacious porch from which to enjoy it. The pool provided a nice respite from the heat midday. We found the place to be very quiet and relaxing.
Two things to be prepared for: we relied heavily on our car, as the apartment is a short drive out of town. And because the area is so natural there are definitely insects around (to be expected in Costa Rica.)
The service and responsiveness by the staff to our requests were good. I highly recommend staying here.

I am completing this review as a favour for the owner! My husband and I have made a few other reviews of our trip to Nosara and we had decided that we would keep Casa-Banda our own little secret. This was our third trip to Costa Rica and although we have loved every single trip, we truly loved our time in Nosara! Casa-Banda exceeded our expectations. It is tastefully decorated, we loved the pool especially after our surf lessons! The kitchen was well equipped! The laundry facilities are so convenient (next time, I should pack a little lighter!). We enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the facilities. We looked forward to waking up to the sound of the Howler monkeys nearby. I was able to get some wonderful photos of howlers from the parking lot. We saw beautiful birds right off our balcony. If you do plan on visiting and want to stay a short drive away from the beaches, this is a wonderful place to be. We would also recommend going to the biological reserve and taking a guided tour. We also enjoyed walking to Lagarta Lodge for breakfast.

Third time in Nosara and we found another gem! We were fortunate to have the whole place to ourselves and the host was kind enough to upgrade us to the owner's suite (Banda) because the unit we rented was having something replaced. The suite was clean, organized, fully equipped, quiet, and very comfortable. No need for a/C, the fans were perfect. Mesh on windows helped. The grounds are kept very clean with full appreciation of the greenery Costa Rica has to offer. Pool was large for the area and well maintained. Views were perfect. It takes a bit to drive up to the location but worth the drive from the main road.

We have stayed at other units here, but this was the 1st time in Pura Vida suite. We were suprised how spacious it was, we had everything that we needed there. The view of pelada beach is beautiful to wake up to every morning and the outside sitting area was spacious and relaxing. The pool and gardens are well looked after. Enjoyed staying here and would recommend this unit for single or couples. I would just suggest having a car to get around.

We have spent three consecutive years in this area of Costa Rica. The last 2 were with Bibi and arnie at the Pura Vida Suite. The room is a nice size, beds were comfortable, good quality linens, clean, relaxing decorations and furnished kitchen. We love the grounds, they are secluded, safe, quite and relaxing. We prefer staying at this distance from the ocean because it is cooler and not as humid. The ocean is a refreshing short walk from the property. Views from the rooms are outstanding. Compared to our other accomodations in Costa Rica (3) Bibi and arnie go out of their way to answer questions before you get there, are at your disposal during your stay and above all... are trustworthy. Highly reccommend, we will continue to visit this lovely place.

This is our 3rd visit to the Pura Vida suite at Casa-Banda, and we already want to return. The large studio apartment is so clean and comfortable for 2 people. The kitchen is well equipped which makes it easy to prepare food at home. The pool is beautiful and very inviting. It is slightly off the beaten path, which is a great thing in Nosara, it makes for a very quiet stay. The best feature of the property is the gorgeous view of the ocean.
