Costa Rica Spendor
St Louis, MOFantastic vacation place
Left on 10/03/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Fantastic place for a vacation! My wife and I have never been to Costa Rica before and thoroughly enjoyed our recent trip. This is such a beautiful country with very friendly people. We felt totally safe there. Villa Belitza was great and much more than we could have ever expected; beautiful, exactly as the pictures show, comfortable beds with memory foam pillow top mattress, very clean, quiet, extremely private and well maintained. We were there for a total of nine days. The area restaurants had some of the finest food we have ever had. Our next door neighbors at VB were surfers from Kauai and they said the surfing was terrific. The Villa has a new private pathway directly leading to the beautiful local beach from the back side of the pool. Sightseeing was fabulous and having a chance to see all the wildlife in such a beautiful tropical setting was beyond belief. We were there during the recent big earthquake (7.6 strength). With the length and force, we expected to see extensive damage to the house and pool but there was not even a tiny crack anywhere! The most that happened was a book fell on the floor, a nightstand drawer came open and then a cup on the nightstand fell into the open drawer. Earthquakes there are rare with the last big one happening over 50 years ago. The Costa Rican electric utility company had the power restored in about six hours which is much sooner than it usually takes our local St Louis power company to get the job done. Hans and his lovely wife Belitza treated us as family and took care of us as with everything we needed. We are looking foreword to returning soon and plan to make Villa Belitza our choice in the near future. I have been recommending Villa Belitza to everyone. 5+++ stars!!!

Austin, TexasNot exactly a house, not exactly air conditioned. Great Location
Left on 09/27/2012 for a stay in August 2012
This was my 8th trip to Costa Rica, my 4th to Nosara. There were 7 of us this time which prompted the need for a house.
Villa Belitza is not a house, it is a triplex. As you are facing the building from the street the unit on the right has a living area and two bedrooms. The unit in the middle is an efficiency apartment and the unit on the left is a one bedroom apartment with a living area down stairs.
This was advertised as a 5 bedroom 4 bathroom home. I only counted three showers, so there was a missing bathroom as well as a missing bedroom unless the commode in the powder room under the stairs was the 4th bath?
This was a corporate retreat for us. The goal was to spend time together in one house with a common living area, reflect on the day's activities and bond. This building didn't facilitate that. I think the goal would be the same for a family vacation, to spend time together. This is why we look for houses rather than hotels.
As a seasoned Central america tourist I know better than to expect everything to work all the time. It simply isn't going to happen. That said the situation with the air conditioning here wasn't acceptable.
The unit on the right has no aC in the living room. There is one aC unit downstairs in the hall that does not cool the living-room during the day. The apartment unit on the left had a broken aC unit upstairs leaving one of the bedrooms unusable. This unit obviously had ongoing issues as the pillows and mattress smelled horribly like old sweat. Washing the linens didn't help.
We arrived at 5pm to find the house very hot throughout. Although Rebecca had been waiting there for us for over an hour she didn't bother to turn any of the units on. Of course if she had we would have known there was a problem. We are from Texas and are not strangers to heat. After 6 hours on the road driving from La Fortuna the house was too hot to shower in so we turned the aCs on and left for dinner. When we returned we found that much of the house still was not cool enough to make use of. I emailed Hans, the owner but to this day have not received a response. I called Rebecca and she told me it was too late to do anything.
We tried to get some rooms in town but registration at Harmony was closed and Casa Tucan was booked full. We ended up three to a bed and the 7 of us made do with 2 showers. Not exactly luxury accommodations.
Rebecca did get someone out there the following day to patch up the broken unit. She and the repair man were there when we left to surf in the morning. When we returned they were gone. There was no note and Rebecca never called to see if things were ok.
I was left without a working aC control and lived the rest of the trip in a room that was hot during the day and cold at night. I was so angry about the conditions there that I made myself wait 10 days to write this review.
That's enough with the bad. We were in Nosara and a bad day in Nosara beats a good day in the office every time.
The building is in a great location. It is ten minutes to the beach or Safari Surf School. Beach Dog Restaurant (open for lunch) is 5 minutes by foot and you can walk to Casa Tucan, Tica Massage and nearly anything else you might need.
The combination locks on the door made getting in and out very easy. There is a washer and dryer that everyone has access to. This was a big help. The internet access was good, 2mbps down, 800k up and worked the entire time we were there.
In retrospect I wished we had rented rooms at a small hotel and used the community area at the bar/restaurant/pool to gather. This rental was not what we were after in convenience or comfort.
I've been writing reviews on Trip advisor for over 8 years now and rarely do I ever leave a negative review. I think this is in large because I do the research and have reasonable expectations when I arrive.
Pura Vida!

Austin, TexasPerfect home away from home!
Left on 09/19/2012 for a stay in September 2012
My boyfriend and I traveled to Guiones for about a week and stayed at Villa Belitza. We were fortunate enough to have the owner of the property, his wife and two of their friends staying at the house for part of our stay. They were all wonderful and shared so much about the area, places to eat and things to do. Our first night, we arrived a bit late and everything was closed for dinner and they invited us to dine with them out on the patio! Despite it being the rainy season in September we had excellent weather! We surfed nearly every single day at Guiones and had amazing conditions. You can walk to the beach and many other restaurants easily, not to mention they've started working on a beach path straight to the beach from the backdoor! It felt just like home and we ate many of our breakfasts there at the house and dined out at night. I can't say thank you enough for everything and how much we enjoyed getting to know you!

Boulder, COGreat Getaway!!!

My family and I stayed for 4 days at Casa Belitza during our trip to Costa Rica. This is a beautiful home, set in a perfect location. The location is a very private road with almost no traffic or noise but still with easy walking access to the beach. The beach is miles of pristine sand and jungle with great views in every direction. It was so nice to be able to relax by the pool and watch the monkeys climb by in the trees during the day. The house was very nice, with cold a/C in each room and all the amenities you could ask for. I definitively recommend Casa Belitza and I'm already planning to come back soon!!!

My family and I had an amazing time at this beautiful and private Nosara beach home. We plan to make this an annual family trip and are so glad that we found this little gem. You will have a great time at this amazing home and enjoy the ultimate Costa Rican lifestyle with the large outdoor eating/entertaining area and pool. The surf was very good right out front while we were there and the sunsets were spectalular every night. Monkeys came across the trees on the outer edge of the property frequently and really made us feel like we were living in the rainforest, while being just a short walk from the beautiful Nosara beaches. Hans was a pleasure to work with and we are already planning our next trip, you will not regret staying here!

We stayed here for a week with 2 other families in July 2012. It was perfect, the house was very clean, the pool was awesome all in all it was a great experience and I would stay here again. Rebeca, the property manager was so nice and accommodating, Thanks Rebeca for all the suggestions. We each had our separate units for privacy, but were able to all meet on the back patio for a swim and social time. It was a much better value than each family paying for a hotel at Harmony or Harbor Reef. Also, If you have the option, I'd highly recommend hiring a personal cook. The food was better than any restaurant we ate at and was much cheaper per person and there were so many left overs. The house is very close to the beach, about a 3 minute walk. It's also close to local cafes and a 5 min walk to the Harmony/Harbor Reef - close to all the action.

Villa Belitza is only a short walk to the beach. It was as close as you can get a house to the beach in this area, but we had no idea it would be as hot as it was. There was air conditioning in the bedrooms only. The pool was lovely, but again, the water was like bath water because of the outside temperature. We are from Texas, so we are used to the heat, but had I known how hot it is there in May, I would have chosen a place that was fully air. Make sure you inquire about the temps in this area before you book. I checked with all the other areas prior to visiting them, but failed to do it for Playa Guiones.
Response from Hans & Belitza Nykamp - 06/28/2012

We agree, It was unusually hot and humid end of May. We were staying at the house at the same time as our guests.
We now have AC installed in all rooms! -

Brooklyn, NYBeautiful Villa - minutes from the beach!
Left on 08/18/2011 for a stay in August 2011
My wife and I stayed at Villa Belitza with three other couples in early august 2011. It's a perfect house for four couples. Four separate bedrooms (all queen or king beds) and full bathrooms (there is one half bath too). There are also some bunk beds in one room along with sleeping space available on couches and a blow up air mattress.
The villa was very clean and well-maintained. The pool out back is awesome and the landscaping is beautiful. There are neighbors nearby, but the foliage surrounding the property is so dense that it is very private.
Hans, the owner, was very responsive and answered all of our questions prior to arriving. Victor and his wife Melissa manage the property and are wonderful. They were extrememly helpful, and went far beyond expectations in making sure we had a memorable trip.
It is about a 5 minute walk to the beach, which is absolutely stunning. Great waves for surfing at any level, but the paddle out can be tough depending on the swell.
Everything in town is within walking distance. The center of town is about a 10 minute walk with lots of shops and restaurants. Harbor Reef and Casa Toucan, which both had great food, were less than a 5 minute walk. The Gilded Iguana, which was also good, was probably 10 minutes or so.
The villa is very safe. There is a security system and there are security guards that patorl the area at regular intervals.
The only issue we had with the house was that the phone and internet didn't work for the last few days we were there. However, not a big deal. Overall, a wonderful property and highly recommended. We would definitely stay there again. -

Nosara, Costa RicaLuxurious, private, centrally located beach getaway
Left on 08/12/2011 for a stay in March 2011
With three different sizes to choose from, this property is ideal for groups of any size. It allows the privacy of separate quarters. The patio/pool/grill area is secluded and has everything you need for outdoor fun! Both the beach and the town are a short walk away. The alarm system and guards add peace of mind to this tranquil home. The junior suite was perfect for the two of us and if we had a larger group, we would love to have friends/family join us in the other two accommodations! Thanks so much Hans and Belitza for a great vacation!

Baltimore, MarylandBeautiful House in Paradise
Left on 08/12/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We stayed at Villa Belitza this past week and had the most amazing vacation. First of all, the house is beautiful, comfortable and provides pretty much everything you will need for your stay. There is a washer and dryer which was great for our large group. Having the pool was perfect, we brought pool floats (and left them at the house for the next guests to enjoy) and spent lazy days and nights in the pool. The backyard is beautiful with the landscaping and views of wildlife. It has a great location and is walking distance to:
Harbor Reef Hotel - great food and very friendly staff
Coconut Harry's - we took our surf lessons with them and also rented surf boards and chairs from them for the week
Beach Dog Cafe - unfortunately was under construction while we were there, but when they're open would probably be a great place to stop for lunch or breakfast burritos
Casa Toucan - fantastic for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks!
Mini Market - in town, but great for stocking up on snacks and drinks
It's also only a short walk to the beach and to town where you have additional shops and places to eat.
I would highly recommend staying at Villa Belitza. The property manager, Victor, was so amazing and helpful throughout our stay. The only minor complaint I would have was that the phone and Internet stopped working our second day there (we think due to a short power outage), so it made it a little tough to research places to eat and activities. However, Victor was so helpful and helped us make reservations with Miss Sky for a ziplining adventure and recommended several great restaurants. He went above and beyond what we expected and was so friendly! The mid week maid service was also a nice surprise we had forgotten about.
We can't wait to go back to Villa Belitza in the future!
A few tips/recommendations for future visitors:
Don't forget your flashlight as there is little street light on certain areas of the roads.
Make sure you make it to the beach for sunset.
Rent a car with 4WD for your trip into Nosara.
Try some activities like ziplining or a surf lesson. -

If you are looking for peace and tranquility this is the place for you. Our week's stay at Beachside Tropical Paradise for the last 2 years was wunderbar/wonderful and perfect.
The rooms were comfortable, all of the management staff was professional, accommodating, and a pleasure to deal with. All in all, we would highly recommend BTP to anyone looking for a great vacation at Guiones Beach Nosara.
