Access and departure to and from resort is very poor

Left on 04/26/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Grand Mayan is still a fine resort. But, they have constructed a new access procedure and it is time consumming and not well thought out. In order to go to the taxies one must wait for and take a shuttle to the central shuttle boarding area and then walk approx. 1/4 mile to the taxi loading area. Further, this taxi loading area is where one arrives and leaves the resort so each time you wish to go into town you waste at least 1/2 hour each way. By making this procedure so difficult it appears that Management is attempting to keep their guests on the property where the food is more expensive and of poorer quality. Also, check out was very poor. After waiting in line for over 1/2 hour, when I got to the counter I was told the line was now closed and I needed to get into a different line and wait an additional period of time to check out. Not good.

      Best resort in Nuevo Vallarta

Left on 01/20/2013 for a stay in March 2012

I have had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta three times now over the past 6 years. I have to say it is my favorite resort near Puerto Vallarta. The ocean view rooms provide not only an fabulous view of the mountains and the ocean, but also a bird's eye view of the entire resort below. I especially enjoy sitting on the veranda balcony of my room in the early morning watching the arrival of morning and the waking of the resort. The variety of unique pools and lounging areas offer many choices for the guests. My favorite is the lazy river that surrounds the pool grounds. What a great way to catch some sun, stay cool and relax the afternoon away while floating around the beautifully landscaped course of the lazy river.
Great fun for the young, old and in between. Of course the day trips into Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita for shopping are worth mentioning as well. If you are looking to buy jewelry, textiles, or local art, these towns offer the best in Mexico. Having stayed at several other resorts in Mexico over the years, I have to say that Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta is by far my favorite.

Just thinking about this trip makes me smile wistfully.

Left on 01/16/2013 for a stay in December 2009

Within 30 minutes of check in I was sitting by one of the many pools (my personal favorite is the Lazy River Pool)holding a Margarita. Staying at the Grand Mayan allows you to immerse yourself in local culture or luxuriate by the pool depending on your mood. The entire Puerto Vallarta area is brimming with fabulous restaurants, and great shopping. Our group loved the food selections and service at the hotel restaurants, but we occasionally felt the need to try some of the fun, interesting food choices off-site as well. Be sure to catch at least one Mariachi band. You'll have a smile on your face the rest of the evening. I encourage you to get yourself a vehicle and explore the countryside. There are many fascinating sites and, yes, more restaurants (Le Kliff). There are simply too many places to mention here, but the people who booked my trip (John and Linda) appear to know more than enough to keep you busy during your stay. I do have to get back to that Lazy River Pool. It is the most cool, soothing, attitude adjusting activity you'll ever do. I didn't want to leave. My remarks may seem a little over the top, but the entire vacation was that good.

      First Time at Grand Mayan

Left on 01/15/2013 for a stay in June 2012

We had a great experience! Great family location. The Grand Mayan in particular is good for families with kids, more so than the other Mayan options. We look forward to going back again!

      Great time in Paradise!

Left on 01/15/2013 for a stay in March 2012

We had a terrific time in Nuevo Vallarta at the Grand Mayan Resort. The suite was large and well furnished with a beautiful view of the grounds and ocean from our balcony. There was a wide variety of restaurants to choose from and the food was fabulous! The lazy river was very relaxing and the pool refreshing and the drinks/food was never is short supply. We were within an hour's drive of many fun areas to visit and things to do for any adventure level. The people were friendly and we always felt safe. I would highly recommend this resort and working with John and Linda Jameson made our vacation very special!

We brought our family to the Grand Mayan and enjoyed escaping the cooling November weather in California. There were plenty of activities to keep the kids busy and the grown ups tired but relaxed.

Grand Mayan is beautiful and relaxing in Nuevo Vallarta.

Left on 01/14/2013 for a stay in December 2010

We love to stay at Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta. Everything one needs is there and the service is superb. The bay is gorgeous and the sunsets are stunning. The food and drinks are great and we love floating around the property in the tubes. It is truly relaxing and a wonderful place to "wind-down". Golf is good there too. A cab ride to town is easy. We love walking around the rocky shore and seeing the wonderful art and sand sculptures.

      sweet units

Left on 01/12/2013 for a stay in February 2011

These were really decked out units. The plunge pool on the porch was great. Pools, etc. were easy, with plenty of chairs without having to go 'reserve' them early. Golf was nearby and not expensive if you waited until the afternoon to play. Easy to get into town with some very different restaurants. Try the Brazilian one.
