It's a little difficult to find and that's probably the main downside. Located high on a hill it commands great views of the surrounding hills and tea plantations. The man looking after our big group was lovely and cooked a simple but good breakfast. We loved it.

      Lovely

Left on 03/31/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We had a nice stay at Spring acre. We were just there for one night. We were actually planning to stay at a different bungalow but that turned out to be terrible. It was late at night and we were looking for some other place to stay. We found Spring acre on trip advisor and called Ms. Charini. She was great, and let us stay here at such short notice. We were so pleased when we arrived. The bungalow is clean and cozy. There's 4 bedrooms and one of the rooms has two bunk beds. So, it can easily accommodate 10 people. The beds were nice and comfortable. The living room was very cozy with the fireplace.

Wije the caretaker was very friendly and always willing to help.

Comparing with other colonial style bungalows that we have stayed at, Spring acre was much smaller and the view was just ok for us. It was not as good as some of the others which have beautiful gardens and better views of tea estates.

We had a wonderful stay at Spring acre. We were there for just one day but wished we had stayed for a few more days. Wijay the caretaker was always willing to help and made us a tasty breakfast. He showed us around the bungalow and also explained the operations of the cinema 3D TV and sound system which was a fantastic experience for my family. We enjoyed the private garden and also an early morning walk along the tea garden. The view from the bungalow is fantastic. The bungalow is extremely clean and cosy. Ideal for a family with kids to enjoy Nuwara Eliya at their own pace without being constrained by the schedule of a hotel. I will definitely recommend Spring acre to all visitors. Hope to be back at Spring acre on our next visit to Nuwara Eliya.

The building is high up on the hill and it's a roll of many other similiar buildings. The facility is okay and the staff is friendly and helpful. If you are looking for 4 bedroom place to meet the basics (they do have TV, etc.) this can do the job. We have stayed in several other similiar accommodation in Sri Lanka, this place just lack of characters. Despite their effort, the meals are fairly average there, not recommended. We had some much more memoriable meals there.

We were welcomed warmly by Vijay, the caretaker on a cold rainy night, with our meals prepared and warmed up just in time for us to enjoy a cosy fly dinner. He was very efficient and helpful, always with a smile. The bungalow is nice and cosy, however, for senior people's safety, the front road leading to the main door should be tarred, so that there is less possibility of people slipping and falling especially when it rains cats and dogs. Other than that, we had an enjoyable stay. Ms. Charini was very professional and helpful and she went out of her way to ensure our stay in Sri Lanka would be a pleasant one. If you are looking for a friendly and approachable tour guide who will work within your schedule and preferences, pls ask her for Frank White's contact or email me direct. All in all, Spring acre is a lovely home for a memorable holiday.

Left on 02/07/2013 for a stay in January 2013

The service we received was fantastic, our caretaker was very friendly and took care of our every need. Moreover, the chef cooked beautiful food and cooked in accordance with the menu we had made.

The house was very bright and vibrant with windows that framed the beautiful mountains. The lounge room was very spacious which allowed our big family to comfortably sit together. The rooms accommodated our needs well. The only negative was that the hot water was not sufficient for all of us and given the condition of the weather, having a cold shower was not very pleasant.

The location was very good, there's plenty of things to do to keep occupied. We visited a tea estate as well as a farm which was enjoyable. Overall, the location and the vibrancy of the house which elegantly captured the landscape enhanced our stay.

Dining area view. One of many views from the house.

We did a family vacation to Sri Lanka in Dec-12 and stayed in the cottage. It was very nice cottage - arnd 10mins drive to main city centre. Overall good experience - though only issue is that there are no dining options nearby - so one has to drive down to city centre - which was bit of issue specifically during dinner time. Would surely recommend this place to others.

Left on 01/10/2013 for a stay in December 2012

The villa is well appointed and clean, and it is located on top of a hill facing a tea plantation. All rooms offer splendid views on nature. The caretaker, Vijay, is simply wonderful, looking after all of our wishes to make our stay pleasant. The chef, Kumar, also constatntly smiling, prepares great breakfasts and dinners.
The amenities are modern, including wifi and an interet connected TV.
The only negatives are the little extras that in our views should be included in the rental price; such as internet data above the first 200 Megabytes, irrespective of the length of stay, or the charge for daytime heating after 6 am, which we did not use fortunately, but could be useful on colder days. It is also inconvenient that all cupoards are locked, making it mandatory to ask the caretaker to provide a glass or a plate. Also, the location is just a little too remote from the town to make it accessible by foot; a driver or tuktuk is needed all the time to go anywhere.

The house is situated on a peak The neighborhood The view from inside our bbq prepared by Vijay

      Oh what a find!

Left on 10/31/2012 for a stay in October 2012

My family and friends consisting of a group of 8 recently stayed for 2 nights at Spring acre and what a find it was!

Situated approximately 10-15mins from the Nuwaraeliya city centre, the bungalow is tucked away in a resort location opposite a tea estate. The bungalow itself is compact, but extremely cosy. Rooms are fairly basic, but lovely. The toilets are spotlessly clean. The warmth of the fireplace and the wooden floors and ceiling gives a very homely feeling in the cool climate of Nuwaraeliya. On the first day we were served with a sumptuous english breakfast and on the second day we had the traditional Srilankan breakfast consisting of pol rotty (made with a mixture of coconut and flour) and it was simply amazing. Make sure that you experience the BBQ at the bungalow at least one night of your stay. Part of the charm of this cottage is its view of the tea gardens and the pedro mountain range. You should definitely take a stroll down the tea gardens, preferably early morning to experience the nature and scenery at its best. The bungalow is just excellent to explore Nuwaraeliya and its surroundings. A visit to Horton plains, lake Gregory and hakgala gardens are a must.

I would definitely recommend Spring acre for all traveler to Nuwaraeliya as it provides value for money in a luxurious and cosy environment.

Ideal Holiday Bungalow for a small group

Left on 07/28/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Thanks to Tripadvisor we managed to find this lovely place for our annual family trip. The owners handled our reservation very professionally and gave all the tips necessary to make our stay a pleasant and comfortable one. Although Spring acre is a 5 minutes drive away from Nuwara Eliya town, it is situated at a higher altitude and views from there are quite beautiful. Bungalow is new and tastefully furnished and we really liked the wooden floor, electric fire place and interior decor. During our 3 nights stay we always had Wije, the caretaker at our service and he prepared 3 tasty breakfasts for us. He also helped us to have a perfect BBQ night. We hired a cook to prepare some of our meals and on couple of occasions we went to Nuwara Eliya town for our meals. Our group had 4 kids and they really liked the facilities in the living room and enjoyed sleeping in the 2 bunk beds. However, they wished that they had a larger TV in the living room. It was one of the best stays I had in Nuwara Eliya and I am pleased to recommend Spring acre for a group consisting not more than 3 families. Tip to anybody travelling to Nuwara Eliya: Don't take the route through Hatton, Thalawakele, Nanu Oya until the road constructions are over.

I have stayed at Spring acre twice and I could recommend this place for anyone who is concerned of cleanliness, tidiness, friendly staff and a professional & cordial management.. I came across the spring acre name through a web site & then checked out their own website. I was quite impressed but was not ready to make any conclusions as pics that are shown on websites of holiday bungalows are most often misleading. Well when we arrived at the place we were extremely happy to find out that it was just the same as shown on the web site. The place was beautiful & well kept. The first impression we got was really good. I went to spring acre with a group of friends along with my wife the first time around while the second time around it was a family trip. The care taker "Vijay†was really helpful and did make our stay really comfortable & homely on both the occasions. The entire property was very clean & we observed that the care taker was also very keen on keeping the place tidy. The cleanliness of the toilets & the bed linen is noteworthy as some of our previous stays at more popular hotels have been disappointing in this regard. The breakfast was really nice, both the western breakfast & the Sri Lanka breakfast (we stayed for two nights). I need to emphasize on the fact that the management was really cordial & professional though a reviewer had commented something totally different. We did experience certain issues with the power supply as there tends to be a voltage drop during peak hours of usage. It is nice to hear that the problem is being sorted out now. I would definitely stay again at Spring acre. It is quite comforting to know that there is a good comfy clean holiday home located in a beautiful setting, just a few minutes' drive to the Nuwara Eliya city center.

We came across spring acre whilst browsing online and we were really happy to find such a cozy place. From the very start the owner of the property was very helpful and also willing to accommodate all our requests. Spring acre is located in a wonderful location just at the very start of Nuwara-Eliya.It's location made it very convenient for us to travel to town which was just a 10 minutes drive away. Now for the best part :) Spring acre the house itself felt home away from home for us.It was fully equipped with all amenities needed to make our stay a memorable one. The house keeper was very friendly and helpful. The cook on request also made some mean(really tasty) dishes. The wonderful part about Spring acre is that from the very start to the very end all parties involved in looking into our stay made sure we were well taken care of. We stayed only 2 days at Spring acre but we all wished we could have stayed longer as our stay there was very relaxing and enjoyable. So if your interested in spending a good old relaxing holiday uphill, your search is over! Stay at Spring acre as long as you can :)

The Place was excellent, but when we reached the Housekeeping had not been done, we had to sit and wait in the Lobby for more than an hour, also the Caretaker was terible, he was not at all helpful, First of all we had to pay for the BBQ Rs1000 per day, and he BBQ everything raw!!! had to ask him to do it again, they have a major power electricity issue there, we paid good money and to be in darkness for more than 3 hours at night in the cold with no heaters, and it was tough with the kids around, the cook made us a louzy English breakfast!!! and on the second day we were leaving early so we requested him for breakfast at 7 am, but he said that he can not provide breakfast so early, well for us 7am is not that early!!! Hot water kept finishing soon, and we had to like wait one hour before another takes a shower,as for me only the Place and the Location was great, the rest was horrible!!!

      Spring Acre

      Owner

Thank you very much for your feedback. At the outset, we would like to make it very clear that the person who made the reservation and paid for the entire stay at the bungalow has stated in the feedback form that he would visit Spring Acre again for his next holiday and would also recommend Spring Acre to his best friend.

However, as you claim to be a party who stayed at Spring Acre under the same reservation we will respond to your comments.

      1) We have clearly mentioned in our promotional material, website and also at the time of reservation of the bungalow that the check-in time is 2pm. However, you have arrived at 11am. As the check-out time for the previous guests is at 10am, it would take a minimum of another 2 hours as per our quality standards to get the bungalow ready for our next set of guests. Hence, it is only fair that the caretaker takes at least 2 hours to do the housekeeping while you wait.

      2) Similarly the bungalow literature specifically states that the BBQ machine is available for a charge of Rs. 1,000 per single use and this has been communicated to the person who reserved the bungalow. Whilst the caretaker would assist you in the operation of the BBQ machine it would not be reasonable to expect the caretaker to also BBQ the meat for you, which is the responsibility of the guest. However, the guest has the option of hiring a professional cook to do the BBQ for a nominal charge, which you did not request. We would like to confirm that the Rs. 1,000 has not been charged for the BBQ machine rental.

      3) We acknowledge and regret the unplanned electrical power outage, which was a very rare occurrence. We have complained to the Sri Lanka Electricity Authority, who has already commenced work to install a new electricity power transformer to augment the power supply to the area and also increase the reliability and availability of the electricity power supply. This work is expected to be completed by 15th March 2012.

      4) We are sad that you did not enjoy the home cooked English breakfast, which is normally well received and has very positive reviews from our past guests. Moreover, on your day of departure you had requested for an early Srilankan breakfast at 7am, which was unfortunately communicated to the caretaker only at 10pm on the previous night. The normal time that we serve Srilankan breakfast, as per the bungalow literature, is at 8am. However, even with the short notice period the caretaker was able to arrange the Srilankan breakfast by 7.30am,

      5) Each of our toilets has dedicated hot water geezers with a capacity of 30 litres. Moreover, the water is getting heated continuously. Hence, it is unfortunate that your group exhausted the stock of hot water and had to wait for 1 hour, which is a rare occurrence.

I hope we have addressed your concerns and we regret that there were some short comings, which were not resolved to your expectations.

Nestled atop a high mountain, Spring acre is a well designed and cozy bungalow with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountain range. The warm and friendly living room was our favorite place (or was it the cozy bedroom with the most comfortable bed?!). The Bar-B-Q was super, where we enjoyed the quality time spent with our families. Great place to return to after an eventful nature trek/trail at Horton Plains. And Wijay, the amiable caretaker was always at hand to help!

Oh, where do I start. Charini was a great help at the office. Prompt replies and helpful. Thank You, shame I could not meet you.
Drive from Colombo airport to Spring acre can be more than 5 hours depending on what type of vehicle you have.
Secondly, do not expect the property to be a secluded one with a lawn etc. Sorry but we were looking for the property to be something like from the pics loaded on the site. There are whole lot of properties like Sa around offering similar type of accommodation. But by saying this we are not complaining. Its just that dont expect too much.
Coming to the property, just perfect for a group of 8-10 people including kids. Downstairs, kitchen, dining and 02 bedrooms (one with 04 bunk beds, great for kids)and upstairs 02 bedrooms and big living room with TV.
Bunglow is equipped with everything u will need, yes everything is locked away but we didnt see a problem with that. We asked for wine and whiskey glasses and got it promptly.
The place was kept up nicely, the bedsheets and covers clean and fresh. Towels was good. Morning view from the porch of the tea estate is just awesome.
Sri Lankan breakfast was awesome. String hoppers with dhal and sambhol (we call it sukka chutney). English breakfast was ok but again nothing to complain. We liked Sri Lankan breakfast more than the English.
Last but not the least the caretaker Wije or VJ is a great asset. Very helpful and courteous. Ensured we had a great stay at Spring acres.
Nothing to complain about except we can say that having 02 bathrooms for 04 rooms can be a negative specially in the morning time. But for a big family I dont think it will be a problem. We are all very understanding.

Dear Vikas, thank you very much for the wonderful feedback and 5 star rating. I am also happy that you would absolutely recommend our property to your best friend. Regarding the comments you have made about the pictures on our website, we have specifically mentioned that the tea estate is opposite the bungalow. I am sure you would have enjoyed the walks along the tea estate. Also, we have specifically stated on our website that there is a small private lawn in multiple levels and also many common areas around the bungalow for everyone to explore and enjoy. Please see the web page that lists out the features of the bungalow: http://www.springacre.info/features.html. Thank you and look forward to welcoming all of you to Spring Acre on your next visit to Sri Lanka. Warm regards, Charini

A lovely Stay at Spring acre

Left on 12/14/2011 for a stay in December 2011

Our 2 families from Singapore stayed at the Spring acre for 2 nights. We found the place clean, warm and cosy. The views of the plantations from the kitchen is lovely. We spent a fair bit of evening time in the cosy living room upstairs. Vj the caretaker of the place was very helpful and accommodating. We cooked a simple dinner there with the well equipped kitchen. This place has a modern, homely feel. We enjoyed the stay and have pleasant memories of the place. It is a short distant from town and you will need a car to get to town.

Clean, modern, great caretaker, but lacking homely feel...and he

Left on 11/28/2011 for a stay in November 2011

Spring acre is basically in the middle of a housing scheme - literally a load of similar looking houses on a hill. This threw me a little bit as I was expecting a quaint upcountry bungalow, but I have to admit the inside was immaculate. The kitchen, lounge, bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and tastefully decorated.

The owners, and Wije the caretaker, were really helpful. Location is excellent.

Bad points I found were the fact that everything is locked up - the board games, the coffee and tea, the crockery and cutlery etc and that does not give you the feeling of a vacation rental, as you're compelled to either keep bothering Wije or just go without (we opted for the latter).

The other down point was the fact that heating is limited to 4 hours in the living room and from 6pm to 6am in the bedrooms. It was absolutely freezing in the house and with two young kids this really was disappointing. The small fan heaters in the bedrooms were ok, but the electric fire in the lounge definitely wasn't enough and it was very uncomfortable in the morning when we woke up and weren't able to have any heating in the living room.

Overall we did have a good time at the house, it was a clean, tidy and functional vacation rental, with excellent customer service via the owners and caretaker.

Thank you very much for your valuable feedback. As described in the instruction leaflet, the complimentary heating can be extended, on request, beyond the standard hours for a nominal charge. In future we will also give the necessary instructions to the caretaker to ensure that guests are not inconvenienced due to the locking up of cupboards.

We first met the lovely couple who are the owners of this holiday rental whilst we were in Colombo. They were most helpful in directing us to useful travel websites [one of which I believe the gentleman of the house manages] for South-Central Sri-lanka and advising us of places and nature trails we could do. We arrived in Nuwara Eliya around 8pm after a long day travelling in a van and were met by the lovely caretaker who helped direct our driver up the steep drive to the house. It was like being in Scotland on that night as it was cold and windy, but the house was warm and comfortable. The only draw back was the takeaway/restaurant that we were directed to at the bottom on the hill near the house, where we bought our dinner, the food was a bit bland and lacking in flavour. Also limited choice for the vegetarians in our group at that restaurant.
Overall, I would say that we all enjoyed our stay there and as we were on a tight schedule, we requested and received on time an early Sri lankan breakfast, which the caretaker arranged for us. I had one of my best nights sleep during our trip to Sri lanka. Its a perfect venue for a group holiday. I just wish we'd had more time to explore a bit more of Nuwara Eliya aside from the tea plantations. I would certainly recommend this place and would stay there again if we ever travel there again.

Sri Lanka is our 2nd home and Nuwara Eliya gives us nostalgic memories of our home town in England. In fact, we have visited Nuwara Eliya 3 times in the last 3 years and find the city absolutely wonderful and everybody is so helpful.

My wife and I, together with my teenage children, were at this great place of peace and tranquility for 5 days in april at a beautiful bungalow called Spring acre. The bungalow is central to the vast majority of the city's attractions and we think it is of excellent value with very high standards. Our teenagers were running everyday up the tea gardens in the hills. We followed them walking, and were stunned by the magic of our surrounding land. View over the garden and into the mountains was breathtaking from the bungalow. We made snoozing and lazing around the fireplace a daily habit, interrupted only by Wije, the friendly caretaker, who took up the responsibility of serving us with a permanent smile.

I highly recommend Spring acre for all holiday makers.

In a nutshell as I dont want to spend much time on this one -

House - very clean and comfortable but obviously a buy-to-let place - absolutely no homely feel and it could have been Essex in the UK it was so non-Sri Lankan.

Location - a little way outside of the town on a very steep hill. Its on an obviously holiday let 'village' so lots of coming and going.

Area - opposite a tea plantation - really lovely views and walks

Caretaker - a real pain, would not give us towels for the kids without a fight, even though we had booked for the correct number of persons, also a little over protective of the house, made us feel very unwelcome and you had to be careful not to be wandering around in your pj's as he kept popping in!!

On the whole this place is fine - lovely even - but there are other nicer places in the area.
