This cottage has a great location with ocean view from the deck and water canal that goes in 2 fyidirections in the back yard! The cottage has been remodeled inside with new hardwood floors and freshly painted
a seafoam color that lends to a beachy feeling! It is decorated with a 'Shabby Chic' style. A lot of the furniture, lamps and accessories were done by the owner's wife and are very unique! The cottage has 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths and an outdoor shower with hot & cold water.

The cottage is located on the corner of SE40th. ( beach strand) and E. Dolphin Dr.. The ocean can be viewed from the deck and the water canal runs in two directions in the back yard of this cottage. 'Heron Lookout' is just a few steps away on the beach strand. Also Middleton Park is within walking distance and has a new park, ball fields, basketball and tennis courts with skateboarding area!
The cottage is within a mile or 2 of sevaral good restaurants. some of our favorites are ' Oak Island Restaurant ' which has great flounder and 'Little Bits Grill' which has delicous cheeseburgers! Both are very reasonably priced! The 'Barbeque House' and 'Russell's Restaurant' are are also very good.
The town of Southport is only about a 15 to 20 minute drive and is a neat place to go sight seeing with many boats, antique and gifts stores to spend your time just relaxing. Don't leave without grabbing a meal at 'The Provision Company' near the boat docks! They have excellent Yellow Fin Tuna!

What a great time we had at this home. We all felt right at home the minute we walked through the door. The house was clean and perfect, with magnificent views of the canal and just a minute's walk at the most to the beach. The outdoor shower with hot and cold running water is great when you come off the beach from swimming, sunbathing, surfing or fishing, or to shower in after a morning exercise. The area below the house is perfect to lie in the hammock for a quick nap, have a family meal or watch the kids fishing in the canal. The kids had fun casting the crab nets off into the canal which is right in the back yard. We had such a good time and highly recommend this home for families with small children. It is an easy one-block walk to the beach, cross the street on to the sidewalk, making it perfect for wagons and strollers. We love OKI for the clean family beaches and the many choices of how to spend your day. We played kick ball, tennis, rode bikes and the grandsons loved the skate park. We had beach time, easy drive to Southport and the lighthouses. The owners were super to work with. We will definitely stay here again.

We have always rented the same house since we discovered Oak Island which was wonderful - full size house/garage with full sized inground pool. Whole family disappointed when we learned owners had moved into house permanetly. Little did we know we would love this year's rental more. The location is perfect! Not only is it located one street over from beach but backs up by the best place on island for catching shrimp. By the 2nd day we were not only throwing out a casting net with the best of the locals but catching shrimp/crabs to cook. No one fussed or seemed to be disappointed the 5 days it rained that week because we were completely content staying "at home". We had the kayak that was provided to explore further down the canal and the hammock to rest when our arms were too tired to throw out the net or paddle. Before we knew it, we were on our last night and had not even made it in to visit all the neat shops at Southport which was a first. The best part of our week was spending time with our 20 yr old twins. For the first time in several years, they not only spent the entire week with us but actually were content just hanging out. Thank you Mr and Mrs Stowe for allowing us to share your piece of paradise. We plan to continue to visit at least yearly as long as you will allow.
