Leeward Mark is a three bedroom, two bathroom home located in the East Beach portion of Oak Island, NC. The property features four doubles, and one single bed. East Beach, which runs just over three miles from Southeast 58th Street west to Middleton Avenue is a popular stretch of Oak Island sand. Not quite as quiet or secluded as West Beach, its location closer to the island's shops and restaurants make it perfect for the vacationer looking for a blend of relaxation and convenience. I stayed at this home with my 3 little girls and my parents. It was fantastic being right on the beach as the kids could go down to it by themselves and we could feel safe about it, because we could see them from the house. We loved the fact that it was so low key and not commercialized at all. There were many days when we felt like it was our own private beach, because we were the only ones on the beach, as far as we could see, in both directions. The house was located, very conveniently, in the middle of the island. It was very quiet and peaceful.
I do feel I need to mention a few things we did not like. When we booked the house, we thought that the price we were quoted was the price that we were going to pay. However, when we went through the checkout process, we found out that there were taxes added onto the price. I wish they had just added them in first and shown that price. We also thought that for the amount of money we were paying to rent the house, the linens should have been included. However, they were not. We had to either bring our own, which who wants to cart linens to the beach with them, or pay an extra $70. We also had to supply basic stuff like hand soap, paper towels and toilet paper. The home also could have been cleaned a bit better as there was hair in the sinks and drains when we got there. Also, the mattress pads and pillows were a bit filthy and extremely worn. There was a beautiful deck on the home, but there were no chairs to sit on outside and enjoy it.
Despite these few negatives, overall the house was very enjoyable and we had a wonderful family vacation! We will definitely be back to Oak Island.
