Amenities of Simpson House include an oceanfront deck with a picnic table and furniture, a park grill, and direct beach access. Simpson House is also just one block from the Ocean Crest Pier. East Beach, which runs almost four and a half miles from Southeast 79th Street west to Middleton Avenue is a popular stretch of Oak Island sand. Left on 07/26/2011 for a stay in May 2011
The house was clean and nice. There had been upgrades to the outside door as well as new windows and new cushions for the couch inside that had occurred since we stayed in May 2010. The ocean views are great and in a great location. The refrigerator didn't cool in 2010 and didn't cool in 2011 either even though we reported the same problem both years. We had to put bowls of ice in the refrigerator and actually was afraid to leave much perishable foods. The first floor air had a problem the first day, but the repairman came that evening and all appeared well after he left. The dishwasher was so noisy we couldn't talk and appeared to be making a loud grinding noise, so we called it in and the repairman also fixed the problem when he came to work on the air conditioning. Besides all of the problems, we had a nice time. The house is in a good location, it's quiet, and right on the beach. It was clean and nice. We'd stay there again, but please make sure the refrigerator cools next year if we decide to stay there. When the repairman came, he tested the temperature, but we had 10 lbs. of ice in the bottom of the refrigerator, so we don't think a correct reading was taken. The food inside felt warm for two days until we thought to put ice in it. We used our cooler to keep food in as well. Was a major inconvenience.
