PittsburghMy happy place.

Long and Foster has always had great customer service and they are very friendly. I have been saying at Mountain House with my family for 22 years straight in the summer and also numerous winter trips and couldnt be happier with it. It is very rustic with neccesary upgrades when needed. It feels like home and i love its location. Set back by itself, very quiet, with everything you need. Thanks for everything to the owners and also L&F.; Great job guys. Please dont change a thing.

Gaithersburg, MDGreat getaway house for a holiday family get together.
Left on 12/08/2012 for a stay in November 2012
House was set up great for 4 families with kids. A room with 4 bunks was great for the kids. The home was set up with 3 floors so the bedrooms were separated. Everyone had enough space for themselves. Two large tv areas let the adults have one and the kids have one for themselves. Kitchen was equipped with any cookware necessary. Plenty of dining space. Wireless Internet for free was nice since cell service was a bit limited. All in all a great place for a thanksgiving get together.

This location is not for people who have issues with climbing. The discription was a bit misleading with regards to location of dock and lake front in relation to the house. It is a steep climb up the driveway and a steep climb up a hill from water. In addition no a/C my bad! wont do that again. Especially, because it was Hot in the house. No space in the Kitchen to put food. Cabinets stuffed full with all kinds of dishes, The lower level of home has a bad order even if you air it out. It's the coolest part of the house but the smell is aweful. The Beds were comfortable, I liked the spaciousness of the home, and the wrap around deck. No view of the lake unless you go to the dock. Couches need to be replaced you sink and difficult to get out. I really do not like to be so negitive but all in all for the money I will choose somewhere different next time.

We really love the house may come back again. Everything is great, except for one - the driveway is pretty steep. This may become an issue in bad weather.

Left on 09/22/2011 for a stay in September 2011
This was just a weekend out with the guys, so for us everything was adequate. Price could have been better considering it didn't have aC or Internet, but it was cheaper than most, especially for the number of beds it had.
Only real complaint would be the cleanliness, overall it was ok, but both the inside and outside were covered with bugs/spiders and such and would have been nice if the place had been wiped down a bit before getting there. -

Left on 08/25/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Enjoyed the Mountain House with its privacy and closeness to nature. House is well maintained and being a smoking and pet friendly home we did not notice any odor's. Enjoyed the deck and the dock was not far away. Saw our first black bear this year.
The steepness of the driveway was an issue especially if it was wet, very little turn around area also. The road can get busy during the day. -

House has plenty of room for family and some friends. Limited cable service makes it tough on rainy days and evenings. Stains, in carpet can be eliminated with "Spot Shot" which can be purcahsed at Wal-Mart or Sam's Club. It is very effective at removing stains. Dock is in excellent shape and the Deep Water is another reason for this rental. I will rent here again next year. Thanks ...

Mechanicsburg, PANice, but no air conditioning
Left on 09/06/2010 for a stay in August 2010
We had a wonderful time, and really liked the house...But, the basement bedrooms were stuffy and a little musty (some of our group struggled with alllergies). And there was no airconditioning, which would have been ok if we weren't traveling with my 84 year old mother, who is very sensitive to the heat. There was also a complaint from the couple who had the queen bedroom in the basement that the mattress was lumpy and concave.
Long and Foster did a great job with everything else and were efficient and accomodating.
We especially enjoyed hanging out down at the dock, kayaking around the lake, and swimming at nearby Swallow Falls. If there were fish in the lake they were not biting though! So I would advise out of state folks to skip buying a fishing license! -

Long& foster property management was a pleasure to work with. The home was very nice, floor plan laid out very well, with plenty of room to move arround. The kitchen had everything you could ever need, except a chef, and someone to clean up after abunch of men were done cooking. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star is because of the steep driveway and parking. The location is beautiful and quite, with a very short walk to the lake, which has a very vice dock if you are a boater. This not only agood choice for hunters but an excellant choice for families.

Ellicott City, MarylandEnjoyable but problem filled
Left on 01/14/2010 for a stay in January 2010
The house met our needs, and the experience was
overall quite enjoyable. However, we had some
problems with the house that required us to
constantly call the rental agency. First, we could
not get into the driveway because it was so steep
and completely ice covered. The top of the
driveway, which was flat, was basically a skating
rink. None of our cars could get up the driveway
until the plow came to plow it and salt it. We had
this problem several times throughout the stay.
While I understand that the weather is icy, the
driveway was ridiculously steep. Had it been a
little more level, we would have been able to get
up it. Then our drains clogged up and we had to
call someone to get them cleared out. After that
we had a problem with a strange burning smell in
the basement and an odd noise. Again we had to
call the rental agency to get it investigated. It
turns out that there was a hot tub walled off and
the motor was burning in it. No one's fault, but
still another thing for us to deal with on our
vacation. Our deck was also not shoveled, which
would have been fine except for the fact that the
keys given to us only worked on the doors
accessible by the deck. The last house we stayed
at didn't shovel the deck, but we were able to
enter through the ground floor.
We loved the tv and the layout of the house. The
fact that the upstairs bathroom was accessible
without going into the bedroom upstairs (basically
the master bedroom) was wonderful. The Long and
Foster people were very nice and understanding and
the plow man let us have a giant bag of salt so we
could get up and down the driveway. -

This was our first trip to DCM and we were pleasantly surprised and plan to return next year. Our Mountain House was in the perfect location to the lake, state parks, and activities. Our home was spacious and had the amenities as listed, however was in need of some TLC (ie the sliding glass door and screen were off the track, the bathroom fixtures were falling off the walls, ceiling fans/lights need repair, and althought the home was basically clean, the rugs in the bathrooms smelled moldy (so we washed them.))
The management at L&F were very efficient and I would recommend their services to anyone.
