VirginiaFantastic venue for a family Thanksgiving!
Left on 11/26/2012 for a stay in November 2012
The Drift away was the perfect venue for our family reunion/Thanksgiving. The house has multiple living areas, a nice game room area and plenty of outdoor space so that everybody could find somewhere to hang out. Other reviews have mentioned the smell of the water, but for us it was largely a non-issue and whatever smell there disappeared after the first day. The pool alarm can get annoying but with several young children in the house, we were all grateful for the additional safety element.
The house was in excellent condition with plenty of seating and sleeping areas to accommodate our large group. The open kitchen/living room area allowed for maximum social interaction and with 2 refrigerators, 2 dishwashers and 2 ovens, we had all of the space we needed to cook Thanksgiving for 20+ people.
The kids loved the pool. The adults enjoyed the hot tub and with the mild weather the fire pit was a huge hit!
It's safe to say, we had a fantastic time at the Drift away.

I would give this a rating of slightly below average. I was looking for a house to fit a group of 6 adults for New Years Eve weekend. The bedroom layout fit what I was looking for so we chose Drift away. To start off the house had a funny smell upon arrival. It did go away after the first day. The house is dated and the furniture is worn. The televisions are old (although I've stayed at other homes in the area and they had old televisions as well). The water had a strong sulfur smell. We thought the pool would be an added bonus. Along with the pool came an alarm for obvious safety. The alarm turned out to be a huge annoyance. The pool guy came to check the chemicals and did show us how to tinker with it to make it work because the instructions were poor and it didn't seem to work. The pool guy even said it was the worst alarm of all the rentals he has seen. The beds were hard as a rock. In the pictures they show a shuffleboard and upon arrival the shuffleboard is actually extremely small. The picture made it look much bigger than it really is. The house is in a nice location right on the water but it is a cut up style house, not very open. I will say that the rental company was helpful in that they let us in early to put our food in the refrigerator to keep it cold. I thought this house would "wow" me but it didn't. I've stayed in the area in about a half dozen different rentals and although this rental is lake front it is probably the poorest rental I've stayed at.

Had great fun in the lake, in boats, and around the camp fire. House was comfortable and had plenty of room for kids and teenagers.
Used the indoor pool a lot with the kids. -

A terrific place, but the pool alarm was very irritating and unnerving, especially with people going in and out. Our lasting impression, unfortunately, will be
"pool door open. check pool." -

Left on 08/14/2010 for a stay in July 2010
Overall we had a fun time with our kids & grandkids. Loved having an indoor pool but. The gal & guy who serviced it were very nice.
However, we should have been informed about the water situation (sulphur odor & off taste) so we could bring a supply for drinking & cooking instead of making the trek back to the store.
The chimney is in dire need of cleaning. The acrid smell of creosote after a rain made using the upstairs living room impossible. We could not open the windows to air it out because the smell from the septic tank wafted in. The septic tank made it hard to use the decks, & hot tub also, depending on which way the breeze was carrying the odor. These are amentities that are mentioned on the rental site. For sale or not, systems should be maintained. -

Overall, we had a wonderful vacation. There were a few issues with the house, but I guess with having several FEET of snow, that is bound to happen.
The service was just okay from Railey Vacations maintainance department. When we arrived one of the bedroom floors was soaked and smelled very bad. There was a major leak in the ceiling in the basement where the hot water heater was. It was leaking through to one of the bathrooms through a closet. They did after one day send someone to check it out and they said they did not know where it was coming from and to keep towels on it.
We also did not have propane or enough firewood. We ended up taking the propane tank to get filled ourselves, Railey's did reimburse us at check-out. Two days later after several calls they delivered more firewood.
The house itself was nice, alittle worn in places, but overall had a great layout that was perfect for the group of 14 we had. The family room and kitchen being open together was great for our gatherings. The children loved having access to the internet-many games of Webkinz were played- Master Bedroom was beautiful and very large. The additional bedrooms were very small, but had plenty of closet space.
The location gave you a very private feel and even in all of the snow that was on the roads, it was about a 15-20 minute ride to Wisp. We loved the end of the road location this house offered.
We look forward to renting again, maybe this summer as we were not able to appreciate the decks and views that we would be able to take advantage of during the summer. -

Hagerstown, MDDrift Away Vacation Stay
Left on 01/07/2010 for a stay in December 2009
We recently stayed at "Drift Away". The pictures of the property are much better then the actual location. The properties interior is well worn, needs painted, etc. The pool and it's room is not impressive. The worst issue we had is that the water coming from all sinks, showers, etc smelled terrible. Many of us just did not shower and the smell was so bad. Over-all, an over priced stay.

Annapolis Md.The kids were waterlogged!
Left on 10/14/2009 for a stay in July 2009
We have stayed at the lake for about 8 years now and this home was the best yet. The grandkids enjoyed the pool from early in the morning until late at night. The layout of the home was perfect for us. We had more then enough room and the downstairs was great with the pool table and shuffleboard. The hot tub was nice too - that was more my style! Anyone who stays here is guaranteed to have a great time.
