We have stayed here twice and enjoyed the house both times. It has great views north and south, excellent heating and a great kitchen, if you decide not to eat at Fleurs, Riverstone Kitchen or the Loan and Merc.

Left on 01/29/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We have just spent two weeks staying at Kakanui beach retreat, which is 5 star. We were so sorry to leave. It has everything that you could possibly wish for in a holiday home and then some. We are already planning a return in a few years. A nice touch with strawberrys and rhubarb only a step away. This has been the best holiday ever and the best place to spend it was in the Kakanui Beach Retreat. I would like to give it 6 stars but can only find 5.

What a fabulous place!! It was absolutely perfect for our group (7 gorgeous ladies) and everyone loved it! As one of them said as we walked in "It's even better than the pictures!" It had everything we needed (coffee plungers and wine glasses included) in a gorgeous location. Just right for relaxation or energetic walks along the beach. Highly recommended!

Left on 07/07/2011 for a stay in June 2011
For a couple of days we forgot about everything. The bungalow style cottage is located on the crest of a hill with sweeping views down the south coast from the front living room window or the expansive deck off the kitchen/dining/living area. The house was warm, comfortable, beautifully appointed without being fussy with all the modern conveniences to make you feel at home. It has two double bedrooms, one with ensuite and toilet, while the other bathroom has a toilet plus a bath with an overhead shower. The kitchen is modern with everything supplied with the added bonus of gas burners I was envious of. An added bonus was the small but overflowing culinary garden just at the front door where we were able to pick fresh rainbow silverbeet and herbs for our many eating pleasures. There is a Masport wood burner with wood supply, a heatpump and heat ventilation to keep the whole house cosy. It was close enough to Oamaru to enjoy what the area has to offer from cafe culture, shopping, eating out, an aquatic centre right in town, botanic gardens and plenty of heritage wonders to explore (great second hand shopping) with an abundance of local and organic produce stands along the way to stock up on the good things in life. From the house it is a brief walk down to the beach and coastline with plenty of easy walking to explore the local area which is part of the 'lost world' coast experience with a gem stone beach just at the entrance to the Kakanui river estuary.
We loved our stay and are just waiting for our next opportunity to get out of town for some total R & R. Many thanks to Richard and Shona for creating and sharing such a wonderful place. -

Our group of 6 really enjoyed our stay at the Kakanui Beach retreat. The house was very clean and extremely comfortable and cozy. It was within walking distance to the beach and within driving distance to many attractions.
The kitchen was well-equipped and made cooking easy. The beds were comfortable and clean as well. The owners were very charming and it was a pleasure to meet them. We look back fondly on our stay here. We would definitely vacation here again! -

Kakanui Beach Retreat exceeded all of our expectations including the kids - our son was ecstatic when he saw the cricket bat!. It has a great location, the views are amazing. The house is very comfortable and has all you could want in a holiday house and more. This is definitely one of the best holiday houses that we have stayed in.

Left on 05/08/2011 for a stay in February 2011
The house is in beautiful condition with every facility you could ask for and has a beautiful view down the coast. Kakanui is a small quiet resort but Oamaru is only a short drive away for shops and other facilities. Richard and Shona Savage were very pleasant to deal with and dealt with any queries very promptly/

WellingtonA real treat.
Left on 05/08/2011 for a stay in April 2011
What a wonderful way to finish our 2 weeks trip of Otago. The beautifully renovated villa housed the six of us easily. We loved the space and views and thoroughly enjoyed the Rhubarb crumble made from the garden - a lovely touch. Not having to vaccuum etc when leaving was a nice touch as well. The whole experience was a real treat.

We loved this place so much that we stayed here twice in one month! What a beautifully decorated and well appointed home! A fully equipped kitchen and audio/visual entertainment area make it ideal for R & R. The washer and dryer were a nice bonus. And did we mention the views? The ocean and a lovely crescent beach are just outside your window. Just a quick drive south of Oamaru, this is a good landing spot for exploring the SE coast line.
