Located close to the delightful old walled town of Obidos (3 minute drive) with a rich heritage of religious architecture and monumental historical traces. Obidos is a beautifully preserved walled medieval town on the Costa de Prata, Leiria. The whole town has been declared a national monument in Portugal, and whilst the town defies belief due to the extraordinary wealth of magnificent medieval buildings, it has a great Portuguese atmosphere. Obidos is a perfect place for a romantic getaway, with cobbled streets lined by colourful tiled whitewashed houses and churches. The Town of Obidos boats many festivals, concerts and events all year through. These included: The International Festival of Chocolate in March - It just does not get any better for Chocolate lovers! - ,and The Medieval Fair in July. A fantastic Fair close to some of the many spectacular beaches and close to a wide variety of museums, precious monuments and well famed restaurants.
It is an area of sandy beaches, an excellent golf course, museums, quaint old towns, high cliffs, and beautiful hilly countryside.
The mouth of the Obidos Lagoon and the wide sandy beach of Foz do Arelho are a 10 minute drive, with safe swimming for children in the lagoon. Foz do Arelho is a small old fishing village that is slowly becoming a popular holiday resort town due to the area's excellent swimming and water sports conditions. Ideal for surfing and saliling. Surfing lessons are available. There is a good choice of restaurants, cafes and bars in the town and along the coastal road. Close to a wide variety of museums, precious monuments and well famed restaurants serving the best of the traditional Portuguese Cousine, characterised by rich, filling and full-flavored dishes and is closely related to the Mediterranean cuisine.

The region boats moderate weather and it´s not too hot in the summer.
There is a lagoon with shallow waters that are perfect for children and less able swimmers.
The fishermen´s town of Peniche is nearby with very good seafood. To enjoy the area is necessary to visit the "island "of Baleal that is linked to the mainland by a narrow strip of sand and it is a wonderful beach.
You can visit the town of Caldas da Rainha, as well as the spa, the monastery of Alcobaça, of Batalha, and the fortifications of Torres Vedras.
Lisboa, boasting springtime temperatures during the winter and cool summers freshened by a breeze blowing in from the Atlantic, offers a rich and impressively integrated diversity and it is a 45 minutes drive by A8.. The capital of Portugal since its conquest from the Moors in 1147, Lisbon is a legendary city with over 20 centuries of History.

Where the present meets the past

Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in May 2012

This delightful Villa, approx. 2 km (1.2 miles) from medieval walled city of Obidos, is a perfect place to relax in peaceful rural surroundings. The Villa, with its large courtyard, gardens and private swimming pool (8X4 yds), makes an attractive alternative to other accommodation types. And the attention one gets from the owner is second to none. Itself a trip back into History, obidos "citadel" is known as "The Wedding City" since 1282, for it was the traditional wedding gift of the kings of Portugal to their queens. The active and adventurous should take a walk around the walled town, and even further since there are several walking trails. There are awesome views of the surroundings. Immediately below, one sees age-old monuments, small shops selling local handicraft - traditional ceramics, wicker baskets, embroidery and woolen clothes. And not too far to the west there is the atlantic and the splendid sunny beaches of Foz do arelho and Baleal. Nearby there are facilities for horse riding, the world class golf courses of Praia D'El Rey and Bom Sucesso Golf clubs, the latter designed by the golf legend as well as writer, Doand Steel. There are all kinds of water sports facilities around Obidos beautiful lagoon. While in the area visit the coastal town of Peniche with its many typical fish restaurants, and alcobaca an imposing gothic monastery which has the Unesco World Heritage classification. The Villa is pet-friendly. Recommended for: adventure seekers, sightseers, families with teenagers and/or with young children, as well as for the over 55+. It is indeed a romantic getaway.
