Sycamore, IllinoisPerfect place
Left on 06/30/2012 for a stay in June 2012
My husband and I rented the Palmetto Suite in Oak Shade and it was just perfect for the two of us. It is one block from the beach in a very quiet neighborhood. When we arrived at 1:30 PM the suite was ready, perfectly cleaned, key on the door, and well stocked with towels, bath supplies, etc. The Palmetto has one bedroom, a huge bathroom, eating area and living area. There is a small patio off the bedroom. Marion has the kitchenette well stocked with dishes, silverware, etc. I thought we would miss a stove, but the coffee pot, toaster, broiler oven and micro were just fine. There are plenty of places for grab dinner in Ocean Springs. We loved the place, in fact hope to come back perhaps in the spring. I hope, for our sake, this place stays hidden!! I'd hate to have difficulty getting a reservation in the future.

Decatur, GAPerfect family vacation with small children
Left on 12/21/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We have visited multiple times with our toddler and kindergartener. We love that we can walk to the beach, that the ocean is calm and shallow for small children and that there is always a breeze. Marian's accommodations are super clean and comfortable and the amenities are very convenient. Numerous restaurants and shops are a walk/bike ride away.
Such a relaxing vacation for our family! -

Ann Arbor, MIThe only place I'll stay on the ms Coast!
Left on 12/21/2011 for a stay in December 2007
The name says it all -- truly it feels like the great oak trees are hugging the property, providing much appreciated shade from the southern heat. Add to that the easy walking distance to historic downtown Ocean Springs in one direction and the beach in the other -- absolutely priceless!
Special tip: see if the tandem bicycle is still available to rent or borrow. We had great fun checking out more of Ocean Springs (including Gulf Islands National Seashore Park) via that bike.
I can't wait to go back -- but I plan my trips carefully to make sure I can stay at Oak Shade! (And I schedule far in advance.) -

This lovely B & B is the perfect gateway to the special atmosphere of the gulf coast. There is plenty of room to spread out, to work or relax, making it feel more like home than not. The surrounding neighborhood is a delight to walk or bike in, and the beach is just a block away. Stroll a few blocks downtown for a glass of wine and a bowl of spicy sauteed blue crabs. Then take a bike ride over to the magical shearwater pottery arts compound. Nearby is the new Frank Ghery designed George Orr and Georgia O'Keeffee museum too. Amazing cultural resources just minutes away! And the most comfortable, charming B & B to retreat to at the end of the day.

I've stayed at Oak Shade many times over many years and will continue to do so indefinitely. It is the kind of place that can easily become one's home away from home while on vacation or serve as a remote office if bringing work to be done. Guest rooms have fast, reliable internet access and the furnishings allow one to be comfortable overnight or during an extended stay. I often go to Oak Shade when I want to finish writing projects and have daily walks on the beach to get my creativity flowing. Thanks, Marian, for providing this lovely, special place to stay.

Oakshade is fabulous. The individual rooms of the B&B; are beautifully appointed, nicely priced and quite large. Breakfast is continental, allowing you to eat on your own schedule. Walk to a beautiful quiet beach area in less than 5 minutes, or stroll into the delightful shopping area of Ocean Springs, complete with abundant restaurants and unique shopping. Don't miss the Walter anderson museum. We love this B&B;.

My family have stayed at this B&B; many times over the years, and we always have a fun and relaxing time.
What we loved:
- Attractive space and very clean
- Walking to the harbor, beach, downtown, children's park, Walter anderson Museum, and library. The location really couldn't be better for exploring Ocean Springs!
- Enjoyed the fresh fruit and little snacks in the kitchenette area
- Were amazed by the beautiful century-old oak trees that hug the B&B; (and this sweet little town)
- Wonderful chats with Marian Wingo, the owner. She is knowledgeable about local restaurants and attractions and really helped make our time in OS special. -

My husband and I stayed at Oak Shade while on a trip through the Gulf Coast region. It was impeccably clean and beautifully decorated (we even had a basket of snacks and fruit waiting for us with a nice note when we checked into our room). Owner Marian Wingo is gracious and welcoming without being intrusive, and she gave us lots of tips on what we could do in the area. The Gulf of Mexico is just a block away and we especially loved walking the waterfront in the early morning and evening. Ocean Springs is a lovely town too, with great restaurants and a casual but sophisticated vibe. Highly recommended, both the B&B; and the town!
