Description from the owner

Romantic getaway 1 bedroom cottage in magical settings at the foot of Mauna Loa, 3000 feet above sea level ideal for Honeymoon or other romantic occasions....

The cottage is fully furnished, living room w/integrated kitchen, bathroom (small), lanai, many skylights for star gazing....

As one of my guests put it so nicely:

- It's located on about a two acre parcel of very quiet country 3 miles off of the main southern highway about halfway between Kailua- Kona and Volcano. We found it to be a perfect location for those who want to explore the southern part of the Big Island. Just a couple miles from the cabin was a landscape o...Read more

    Additional Location Information

Magical settings between 100 year old Ohias, nestled on the foot of Mauna Loa on the Big Island, Hawaii, providing peace, tranquility and a place to relax. Away form noisy cities, but easy to reach when renting a car. Close by beaches are Miloli'i, Honomolino or Ho'okena (west side) or Whittington beach park (toward eastside). Our village Ocean View, in the middle of the island, not far from Southpoint, Waiohino and Na'alehu in the south of the island, is 2.5 hrs away from Hilo, the capital of Big Island, Hawaii and about 1.5 hrs away from Kailua Kona.
Since I get so many questions about location and beach access I shall post here my response:
Hale Pomaka'i is on the same property were I live where as Hiroko's Hideway is located on the neighbor property. I will be there for your needs. If you read the review about the rentals, you will get a lot of information, you will see pictures about the inside of the houses as well as the surroundings. Yes, linen and everything will be included in the quote except a cleaning fee, a refundable damage deposit and taxes. You would need a car to get around since we are located on Mauna Loa, 3200' altitude, away from stores and city traffic. The next beach access is about 20-30 min driving distance, the Kona airport is about 1 1/2 hrs away, the Hilo airport 2 - 2 1/2 hrs. Ocean View village with its stores, gas stations and post office is in about 6 min driving distance

Quiet spot for a retreat or as a base for adventures.

Left on 03/10/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We spent 5 wonderful days in this charming cabin and wish we could have stayed longer.

It's located on about a two acre parcel of very quiet country 3 miles off of the main southern highway about halfway between Kona and Volcano. We found it to be a perfect location for those who want to explore the southern part of the Big Island. Just a couple miles from the cabin was a landscape of "painted earth" that was such a wonder of rich colors in contrast to the black lava flows. And the area was filled with diverse adventures such as watching the full moon rise from the southernmost point in the us and exploring a lava tube, to seeing turtles on Black Sand Beach and seeing the rare Green Sand Beach. Farther afield are the Kona coffee plantations and the Volcano National Park, both worth visiting.

We struggled between our desire to explore the island and to just relax in quiet solitude on the screen porch or in the hammock. The cabin was so comfortable (extremely comfortable bed!), impeccably clean and was outfitted with everything we needed in a home away from home. The owner even let us spoil her very friendly cat and adopt her for the week. The cabin is on the same 2 acre parcel as the owner's own residence as well as a second, larger house which is also available as a vacation rental, but they are well-spaced from each other. Gabriela is a warm and welcoming host and available to offer any assistance needed while still allowing her guests their privacy.

We would highly recommend this charming spot for a couple who wants some quiet reconnect time or an individual looking for a retreat to read, write or explore.

We can't wait to go back!

Gabriela's very sweet cat which we coaxed into the cabin to keep us company. The cozy interior of the cabin. Warm wood and light. Breakfast on the screened in porch looking out to part of the quiet yard. Recommended by Gabriela just a couple of miles from her house, the beautiful colors of the earth. One of the many eclectic homes of the area. The coast near South Point, not far down the road. Black sand beach viewed from the inland pond. Turtles on Black Sand Beach.
