The house was very fun. We were excited to see that the owners took out the fireplace which blocked the view of the ocean and put in a big bay of windows. It made for a spectacular view. The only problem that we had with the house this year, was a big swarm of bees on the south side of the house, but glad to see that the bees couldn't and didn't get into the upstairs south side bedrooms which would have been quite scary.
Everything is so close when you stay where we stayed. Carlsbad is wonderful as it has such cute and fun shops. We also had easy access to the interstate and used it quite a bit this trip.
We loved the whole experience and will be staying again. Barbara McLain Properties is great to work with. -

Phoenix, AZ39 stair steps down to the beach and back up

My familiy and I have been renting in Oceanside for approx. 10 yrs and I'm a walk out of the house onto the sand kind of guy and because of this...it wasn't for me. The house sits on a bluff overlooking the ocean,but 39 stair steps down to the beach and back up after awhile takes a toll..even on the kids! Additionally we reported an inoperative dryer which had not been used and so was discovered at the end of the week. Ultimately we were charged for the repairs out of the security deposit. The component failure was and should have been considered normal wear and tear.After spending over $5000.00 for the week this is absurd and placed a souring effect on experience. This short sighted gain now maybe costing them rental revenues as it has become part of this review. We have chosen another property for 2011.

We took 10 family members to this rental. Very comfortable. One member was in a wheelchair - this property is not wheelchair accessable. That said, we throughly enjoyed our stay. We left the property spotlessly clean, but still lost our deposit. So be prepared not to have your deposit reimbursed - so let the management company do the cleaning.

Thank you so much for your review. We really appreciate the feedback. I would like to clarify that only the set cleaning fee that was in your contract was deducted and the remaining amount of your deposit was refunded per the contract; we did not keep your whole deposit. We wish for you to have a relaxing departure as the cleaning fee is already a set amount as part of the contract and the cleaner will arrive as scheduled to prepare the rental for the next guest arriving that same day. We appreciate your attempt to leave a clean unit but we definitely suggest that you not worry about cleaning upon your departure. We merely want you to roll out of bed, have breakfast and only have to worry about packing your belongings for a safe trip home. We hope to see you in the future!
