Walton-on-Thames Surrey UKNon commercialised Caribbean - just perfect!
Left on 04/11/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Want to spend time in the Caribbean with family or a group of friends but not in an 'All Inclusive' resort (where you could be anywhere!), then Lansdowne is the perfect place for a get away from it all holiday in superb, peaceful surroundings with home comforts. Close to Sandals Golf Course, but you will need use of a car to get to other places. (Not a problem though!). Reggae beach was our favourite beach and it was nice to have the choice of eating out on occassions (Harmonby Hall restaurant was excellent) or eating in and having a meal in (prepared for by Enid :-). As an alternative to Dunns River Falls (quite commercialised and busy), we were fortunate enough to stumble across Island Gully Blue Hole (very close to Lansdowne) but not officially opened yet. Wayerfalss and blue lagoons to swim in and we had the place to ourselves (stunning and fun!) - hope the lads who are trying to set it up manage to get their licences. If they do, sure it will overtake Dunns River as a tourist attraction (although if too many people find it, it may get spoilt!!)

Washington, DCFantastic Experience
Left on 01/14/2013 for a stay in December 2012
Everything leading up to our group's stay was very well-managed and organized. Our group spent a wonderful week. There were lots of indoor and outdoor activities available to us. Enid, the housekeeper, was very helpful and willing to assist us in anyway that she could. The owner is such a gem and ensured that everything was in place for us to have a comfortable stay. Thank you!

Leslie-Anne and Cudjoe thanks for your kind comments. I am happy to hear that all your plans went well for your special day and we would love to welcome you back to Lansdowne, perhaps an anniversary. Kind regards, Bridgette

Left on 01/05/2013 for a stay in January 2012
Fabulous house, tastefully furnished. Spacious and airy. The grounds well kept and a beauty to behold especially when sitting on any of the many balconies the house has.
Enid was especially a gem. Very attentive and considerate of our needs.
The serene quiet was only accented with the sounds of birds of many kinds.
We thoroughly enjoyed the wealth of reading material made available (especially on the sofa table). A lot of Jamaican history that we caught up on.
We especially enjoyed our breakfasts on the front verandah.
Looking forward to going back soon.Response from Bridgette Craig Walpole - 01/08/2013

Claire many thanks for your review. I am happy to hear that the family get together went very well. Good that you enjoyed our little library of historical and cultural Jamaican books. Hope to welcome you again and thanks for your kind comments and recommendations. Bridgette

KingstonA lovely time at Lansdowne
Left on 12/13/2012 for a stay in December 2012
Our church group held its Leaders' Retreat at Landsdowne. Although it was primarily a "working weekend" with meetings going well into the night;the house was so relaxing and comfortable that it was a pleasure to be there. Our morning sessions were held primarily on the balcony while we watched the sun come up, and as the day got warmer we moved the meetings inside.
The group had a wonderful time there. The bedrooms are airy and comfortable. The housekeeper Enid is hospitable and friendly and an excellent cook.
We definately plan to go back!!Response from Bridgette Craig Walpole - 12/15/2012

Dear Claudette,
I am very pleased to hear that you found Lansdowne a relaxing and comfortable space in which to work. We hope to welcome you again whether it be for another church leaders' retreat or simply for some R & R. Thanks, Bridgette

Lansdowne created for our group a serene hideaway to relax, even while working. A lovely villa with comfortable furnishings. Our stay was even more memorable by the presence of our housekeeper - a most charming person. The grounds helped to make for a calming atmosphere, and we all enjoyed to stay.

All one needs to do is stand on one of the bedroom porches and drink in the view of Jamaica. From mountains to the see this house has an amazing view and the interrior design and furniture is fit for a king. This should be a resort and not a rental house.

Hello Gregory,
Thank you very much for your review and kind comments. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back to Lansdowne in the future.

Left on 08/28/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Retreat, Relax, Rejuvenate...That's all there is to know about Lansdowne. An excellent getaway from the noise and traffic. The scenic views and huge landscape gives you freedom to walk and set your mind free. The rooms were very comfortable and accomodating. The house is beautiful and has plenty of space to roam around through. The cook/hospitality lady Enid was very pleasant and accomodating to all our needs. The food was a+...Enid can cook some food that will have your taste buds crying with pleasure. Beaches, stores, shops, nightlife was within driving distances of 10-15 min...The only short-coming to our stay was that is was way too short..lolol. So it was all worth the trip. Thank You.

Kingston, Jamaicatranquil paradise
Left on 01/22/2012 for a stay in October 2011
Birds chirping in the morning and cicadas singing in the afternoon were just about the only sounds which invaded this tranquil paradise. My husband and I spent a wonderfully lazy weekend there. Our biggest decisions were choosing between breakfast on the lovely balcony adjoining our room or on the front verandah(both with amazing views); going for a nature walk or heading down the road to the beach. The house is beautifully appointed and the owners have taken special care to ensure that most conveniences have been supplied. I especially enjoyed the plethora of magazines and games. The housekeeper was unobtrusive, thus ensuring privacy, but always nearby and on call.
Lansdowne was a welcome refuge from the noise and pace of Kingston where we live. We especially wanted peace and quiet, but it is a short fifteen minute drive into the town of Ocho Rios, which has some good restaurants and shopping. Truly a lovely vacation spot, we'll definitely be going back. -

We enjoyed our 2 weeks stay at the Lansdowne property. The property is located on the hillside in Ocho Rios, which is a nice secluded area away from the hustle and bustle of the town. We wake up every morning to the birds chirping and a nice breeze blowing while enjoying our breakfast on the patio. The yard is green and has very beautiful flowers. It is a very Zen property. The house is very roomy, the kids enjoyed playing around the area. However, there are a few areas for improvement. The interior could use some updating, maybe paint the walls, change the curtains, update the furniture, add air conditioning in the bedrooms and add something to minimize the mosquitoes. The housekeeper arlene did an exceptional job taking care of us. We will be forever grateful to arlene. We would definitely stay here again. You cannot beat the price

Good vacation villa for large groups
Left on 04/22/2011 for a stay in January 2011
We stayed at Lansdowne at the end of December 2010/beginning of January 2011. My brother and his family were joining us on our vacation so we wanted a place that could accomodate all of us. This vacation villa definitely suited our needs. Lansdowne is big and spacious with a family/TV room, living room, dining room, kitchen, three bathrooms and three bedrooms upstairs and two more downstairs. We could have easily had another family join us (we were four adults, two pre-teens and two young children). And there was a fabulous big porch at the front of the house, which was where we spent our evenings and had breakfast. The house is nicely decorated and feels very homey. The grounds are beautiful - very well manicured and a lot trees, plants and flowers. Our children loved running around the garden and checking out all the flowers.
The housekeeper, Arlene, was great. She was always smiling and friendly and did what she could to make our stay enjoyable. Since we were away during the day, we only had her cook us dinner but she would have cooked any meal that we wanted. She showed us where to go to get fresh fish and a good beach, not too far from the villa. She was really good with the kids too.
There were books and games at the villa for guests, which we thought was a nice touch. It was very comfortable and you could definitely make yourself at home.
Lansdowne is up in the hills and away from everything, which could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. We don't like to be in the heart of the action with a lot of people so this was really nice for us. However, if you want to be close to Ocho Rios and the beaches, this may not be the best choice. We had our own vehicle so it was fine for us to get around. It was a good 15 minutes to get to Ocho Rios.
We chose Ocho Rios because of the activities that are available within an hour or so of the town. We went to the beach arlene recommended, did a tour at the Green Grotto Caves, climbed Dunns River Falls and the craft market in town. Be prepared for very aggressive vendors at the craft markets (both the small one and big one). We've travelled throughout asia, Middle East and in South america and have visited markets in every country we've been too. These vendors were, by far, the most rude that we've seen. We live in Kingston and had never encountered this before, so we were quite surprised.
If you're wanting a quiet place to stay with a large group, we would recommend Lansdowne. -

Left on 12/11/2010 for a stay in December 2010
It's just by chance I found this fabulous vacation villa and I was not disappointed. We were a party of 9 and we had enough space for everyone . The home is beautiful and well kept and of course, the fantastic view. Arlene , the housekeeper was very helpful and made sure we had a good time. Bridgette, the owner was easy to do business with. You do get your money's worth in this Jamaican oasis. We all had a great time and wished we could have stayed longer. This will definitely be our home away from home in the future.

I and 6 of my best friends stayed here. The comfort and tranquility was absolutely wonderful. The scenery is breath taking and nature is everywhere as you look outside your porch. The house is a short distance from Ocho Rios which is great. This was also a special trip for me because this is where I proposed to my future wife. I couldn't have asked for a better place.

This house is so amazingly beautiful that I did not want to leave. It's surrounded in gorgeous landscaping and breathtaking views seen through the many big open windows and porches and balconies throughout the entire house. Arlene is a most excellent chef and caretaker. I would wake up around 5-6am every morning and walk with her around the neighborhood. She truly is an asset to the house and made it feel like home to me on my first trip leaving the us. My favorite thing about the house was the view from my bedroom. And the breadfruit that arlene made for us. I will most definintely recommend this hidden treasure to all of my family and friends!

Left on 10/07/2010 for a stay in December 2009
We spent a week at Lansdowne with some friends from England and it was one of the best vacations we have had in years. The estate home is located in a quiet area of Upton Hills a short walk from one of Jamaicas best golf courses run by Sandals. The home was very spacious, clean and beautifully layed out with lovely balconies where we often enjoyed our breakfast or drinks in the evening after a big day in Ocho or at one of the nearby beaches. One of the best beaches we would recommend is down the hill where the river meets the ocean. Arlene the house keeper prepared some amazing Jamaican meals using traditional recipies which was a welcome treat for visitors from Canada. Overal Lansdowne is a great place to enjoy a true Jamaican holiday with plenty of room for even 3 couples.

Away from the noise and hustle of downtown Ocho Rios but only a short trip by car to the town, beaches, banks and supermarkets. A good North coast central area for a touring base and a 15/20 minute walk to the Sandals Upton golf and country club. Our housekeeper arlene took good care of us and is a superb cook and maker of fresh, delicious Caribbean fruit drinks. We enjoyed breakfasting on the veranda overlooking the well kept yard (garden).

"Beautiful, light, spacious villa. Location was a winner for me, nestling in a small exclusive community, 8 minutes up hill from the town, 5 minutes from a most beautiful beach riverhead; at night such peaceful serenity. At 5am when the birds come to serenade me on the bedroom balcony, a timely alert for me to don my walking boots and go for my early morning walk - everyday a different breathtaking route".

Left on 10/06/2010 for a stay in August 2008
I stayed at Lansdowne with my extended family to celebrate a birthday. The house is very nicely decorated and felt like a luxurious home away from home. The property has a huge yard with beautiful lawns and landscaping. This made for a lot of outdoor fun for all the children while the adults relaxed on the porches sipping our cold beers and rum punches. The best part is the services of the lovely housekeeper arlene who made some delicious meals and took care of our every need. Ocho Rios is very close by and provided good external entertainment including trips to the beach and the magnificent Dunns River Falls.
