Whilst in the past we have usually camped or gone on package type holidays, we came to stay with friends and never looked back. The treatment we received from the owners was personal but never intrusive, and as for the accommodation - you couldn't want for better. It's like having the best parts of a single villa and two separate ones rolled together, as there was privacy if you wanted, and masses of space to share.
Local amenities are a short drive away and the seaside restaurants serve some of the best Portugese cuisine you could hope to find, though for us a bbq at the quinta with friends as the sun sets takes a bit of beating!
Quiter than the algarve, the west coast of Portugal is still a bit of a secret to all but the locals, so all the beaches retain their local charm, and this area is a mecca for surfing and fishing enthusiasts.
You'll need transport, but the spot is idyllic, and relaxing by the pool at the quinta is relaxing on a different scale to other holidays
Beware though, this could change your holidaying habits for ever!

SWANSEAA week to unwind

This is a fabulous villa set in about 20 acres of wild Portuguese countryside. We were stunned when we drove up a long and dusty track to find this gem of a property with its fantastic views.
The house is really well equipped and has lovely bedrooms. We were a group of seven and there was enough room to fit another seven in easily.
Despite being off the beaten track it is only five minutes from the supermarket and ten minutes from the lovely little town of Odemira.
However the best bit of our stay was the evenings. Great local food on the BBQ and some local wine and watch the incredible sun sets.
This undoubtedly one of the best holidays we have ever had. -

Epic place to stay with a big group of buddies.
If you like to drink wine, surf, eat meat, play ping pong or whatever La Quinta has it all.
I have stayed several times and it is always wrench to leave.
Fresh limes from the orchard for your afternoon G & T says it all.
Proper Portugal for the proper traveller.

I love staying here. It is a fantastic place to get away from it all.
Somedays the only person you see or hear is the goat herder.
Although you need a car to get around there is also plenty to see and do nearby.
Great surfing beaches most with charming cafe's overlooking the sea.
Lots of good shops and Restaurants in the local villages and the whole area just has a really nice relaxed feel about it.
I have stayed here on a family holiday, a mixed couples holiday and a boys only surf trip and each time it has been fantastic.
The Quinta is spectacular with it's huge open plan living areas, ensuite bedrooms as well as the cosy TV room.
The swimming pool, table tennis and tennis courts all help to make it a perfect place to holiday.
