      Wonderful Getaway

Left on 12/28/2012 for a stay in December 2012

This was the perfect place for a family gathering. The kitchen was so well stocked there wasn't a thing we needed. The game room was put to great use. We loved the whole house music and DVD system. Lots of room to spread out. Very comfortable. Loved the view. Hope to return when we can stay longer.

      A Perfect Mountain Getaway

Left on 08/08/2012 for a stay in August 2012

This cabin is nearly perfect! Four spacious bedrooms, wonderful living areas and a well supplied kitchen. We had 4 adults and 6 kids and with the two rainy days we had, there was plenty of room for all of us to enjoy our day. The rec room is fantastic with pool, table tennis, air hockey and foosball. We had hours of fun in this room alone. If this were not enough, the house is convenient to the beautiful asheville area with many mountains and waterfalls that will make you want to visit again. As for Greybeard Rentals - good and courteous service. We had one minor problem and it was handle very quickly and in a friendly manner.

      A beautiful home

Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in July 2012

3 generations of our family stayed in this home for a week. We had a wonderful time and our family hated to leave. We had plenty of room for everyone in our group and the game area downstairs was very popular. My husband and I have been renting a home for a family vacation every year for about 17 years and this may be the nicest we have ever had. We especially enjoyed the shops in Black Mountain and visits to asheville.

      Great Family Compound

Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Stayed 3 nights with 6 adults and five kids in this very well appointed mountain home with great views and lots to do.

Basement recreation room was a huge hit with the kids. Loved the all the technology gadgets but need to be a bit tech savvy to use them.

House has plenty of room and everything you need. No big deal but kind of odd to not get toilet paper included for what you're paying.

Development has lots of steep gravel roads so our minivan was not an ideal vehicle to go exploring in.

Location was a bit isolated from the usual list of things to do in the asheville area and we spent a fair amount of time in the car. But that's also a pro in that you feel secluded when at the house.

Overall, it was a great house that fit our needs very well. Very positive experience and will definitely keep this house on the list for a return visit to the area.

      peace and quiet

Left on 06/27/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Lovely house but we wouldn't choose to stay there again because (1) no pets policy and (2) it's a long distance to any sizable town. The rental staff were helpful. Road construction was inconvenient.

      Memorable Family Gathering.

Left on 04/03/2012 for a stay in March 2012

It was a bit confusing finding the home but once we arrived, it was mesmerizing; the home was truly grand, as was the view. What I liked most about the home was the calming effect we felt once we entered its doors - It truly was a home away from home. Every room had a spectacular view of the mountain and its surroundings. As we requested, it was private and somewhat tucked away in a quiet setting; the surround sound system added to the ambiance of serenity. The few reccomendations I'd suggest are: a full sized ironing board (perhaps one on each level), extra towel sets, and a security system.

      Absolutely Serene & Beautiful

Left on 10/27/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We rented this house in October for a get together with friends and family and it was absolutely beautiful. This house has a in-built music system which plays music from your ipod anywhere in the house- even in the basement while you are playing Ping Pong & Pool. Its a very clean and luxurious house. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and very high tech. The patio is beautiful and has rocking chairs and a hammock and just amazing views. Two of the bedrooms have an extra twin bed so plenty of people can fit in this house. Overall - very clean, luxurious and an absolute dream!! I would recommend this house to anyone and everyone. I would rent this house in a blink!!!

      Breathtaking!

Left on 10/26/2011 for a stay in October 2011

I recently led 5 of my yoga students on retreat and we stayed at the Grandview Lodge. From the ride up, you knew the view would be amazing, and it did not disappoint. Then you walk into the house and it too was simply breathtaking!

The first words out of our mouths was when can we come back, and the last words when we were leaving were, we are staying longer next time.

What else can I say? We were grateful for a well stocked Kitchen, the bedrooms were great and bedding cozy. The house was warm and lovingly cared for, and gorgeous!

It was our privilege to stay there, and trust me, we will be back!

A wonderful place for spending time with family

Left on 08/22/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We had a wonderful stay here. Our three boys, ages 13, 11, and 8, had so much fun playing pool, air hockey, and ping pong! The kitchen was well equipped, the rooms were spacious, the beds were very comfortable, and the view was spectacular! We especially enjoyed sitting on the deck at sunset, watching the bats swoop around catching their evening meal of mosquitoes. There was plenty of room for us to have some solitude and family time, whatever we were in the mood for.

      Relaxing Near Heaven

Left on 07/28/2010 for a stay in July 2010

Our stay at the Grandview Lodge was a very enjoyable one! The cabin was awesome-- just a slight bat problem (droppings were more the problem). We have been to the area several times and this time was one of my favorites-- the view was the most beautiful view to wake up to each morning! The drive to the cabin was definitely interesting and fun- definitely not for the speedy driver-- we had no problem, but a 4WD is a must!! The home was large enough for all the 5 adults and 9 kids-- the game room was a definite bonus for the kids! We enjoyed staying in this beautiful home in part of God's country!!

      As described

Left on 06/02/2010 for a stay in May 2010

Grandview Lodge is everything as described on the web site. It is a lovely home with 3 superior bedrooms and a lovely veranda with magnificent views. The games room is well equipped. On the web site it recommends a 4 wheel drive vehicle which is to my mind essential -the approach being very steep and unmade. This adds (to those who don't have or are visiting from overseas) a further $1000 per week to the rental. You are not allowed to cook outdoors and the gourmet kitchen is a treasure trove which requires a treasure hunt to locate anything. As described there is no pool, hot tub, or information on where to shop. The closest we found was 15 minutes away. There is a technology information kit but not a single DVD or music disc to amuse you other than ipods which you may have brought yourself. It is exactly as described in the material. Knowing that it was still a magnificent base for en extended family gathering.

Service from Greybeard was excellent, except. You gave directions for the home, thank God are we never would have found it, but you need to get a map showing where it is. Even AAA can't find it by address. There is no Mitchell View dr. anywhere to be found. Ask, Google maps etc will find Mt Mitchell but not Mitchell View. Also Gateway Mt. is not found. The best I did was finding a layout of Gateway on their site.
The drive up is steep and even our Yukon and suburban skidded some on the gravel. The best is to be in 2nd and accelerate, don't go slow up you need forward momentum.
The house was glorious!! I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It really is a great location for a vacation but not to live full time-too far out and secluded.
You need more towels there are not enough.
Front load washers may wash better but they leak. Get a washer with option "spin" not rinse/spin. The machine is locked and no spin cycle so we had to wait for all the rinse water to leak out before it could spin. We used trash cans, towels, mop anything we could.

The way instructions(fireplace etc,)were in frames and displayed was excellent. Also the binder on coffee table with so much info was a real plus.
No key is a great idea.
Loved the big kitchen which was complete with every gadget imaginable. The layout of the home was excellent.
      Thank you

The house is beautiful and great for large group with married couples. Gameroom was great for the kids. Only problem is that there is not enough sheets, pillowcases for beds.We had 14 people in our group which is what the house is listed to handle and we did not have enough towels. Other than that small problem would highly recommend this house to anyone.

      Family reunion/wedding celebration

Left on 09/19/2009 for a stay in June 2009

Although it was off the beaten track, the Lodge was great. We actually liked the bit of seclusion although it is not far from Black Mountain, Old Fort and Asheville. We discovered a wonderful little restaurant/coffee shop/art gallery in Old Fort that had really good food and spent one day in Black Mountain - a shoppers delight. The Lodge itself is very well-appointed and comfortable. Needless to say, the view was outstanding and the great deck made it even more enjoyable. We spent many hours just relaxing or reading on it (there are lots of rockers). The driveway did present a bit of a challenge unless one had a four-wheel-drive vehicle, but we considered that a minor challenge. It's a great place for a family get together and the folks at Greybeard made the rental process easy.

The Grandview Lodge is a wonderful house--plenty of room, equipped with everything you need, a view of the mountains that you will really enjoy, a recreation area that is excellent, high tech for music and film, and set apart from noise and commotion, peaceful and serene. We enjoyed our long weekend at Grandview Lodge very much. The only problem we had was getting our cars up the steep rocky road after all the rain. Grandview is definitely a place we would like to rent again.

The house is beautiful, but nobody could get up the driveway. It is very steep and has several turns, dirt, and loose gravel. We ended up parking at the bottom and walking up, which was difficult for my 85 year old father. We will not stay there again.

Thank you for your response. The driveway to Grandview is gravel, and while most people do not have trouble getting to the house, weather can affect the condition of the road. Because of this, the owner is looking into having it paved.

We rented Grandview Lodge for our extended family's accomodations while attending a graduation for Montreat College. It was a fabulous home, well-appointed and very comfortable. Great for entertaining or just getting away! Plenty of games and activities, with a gorgeous view of the mountains! Make sure you can get your vehicle up the mountain (some cars wont make it) but it's worth it when you get to the top! We are disucssing a yearly trip for our family here. Overall a truly enjoyable stay! Thank you Greybeard Realty for your excellent professionalism and responsiveness.
