With perfect temperatures and rustic fall colors and seasonal foods harvested you won’t have any trouble finding the most memorable and tasty meals will include our traditional seafood dishes, potatoes, locally harvested garden vegetables, ‘AAA’ beef and even Seaweed Pie. Seaweed Pie was described by one tourist as “it has a taste that I couldn't describe even if I tried! If you are going to be near Miminegash you have to stop in to the Seaweed Pie Cafe even if it's only to try the pie. “ Other amazing restaurants close to Cottage on the River include the elegant Wind & Reef that boasts the best view on all of Prince Edward Island; the popular Albert & Crown Pub, the Northport Pier and the Hernewood Dining Room.

22 July 2013; made a booking for 18 & 19 august 2013, Deposit $100
27 July 2013; cancelled Booking (My circumstances changed)
29 July 2013
Owner: The deposit is to secure the cottage for those dates therefore a no return on the deposit. However, if someone else does book for those dates I will return the deposit. Thanks,
Me: Wow, That's a bit steep for a timely cancellation. You should state on your website that there is a no cancellation/refund policy.
My Opinion: I have traveled extensively, keeping 100% not the norm
Owner: I understand that you had unforeseen circumstances preventing your trip however I turned away many customers for those dates.
(My Opinion: If he turned away so many people he shouldn't have had a problem filling the cancelled booking 3 weeks in advance)
Owner: I will however refund the deposit if another customer books for those dates. I hope that works for you.
(My Opinion: It actually doesn't work for me)
18 august 2013
a friend phoned for a booking and the owner said it was fully booked.
22 august 2013 (Note: I had to contact him)
Me: I would like to know when we can expect our $100 deposit.
Owner: sorry but we didnt rebook the dates, i have used it for my personal use.
(My Opinion: The booking was for a Sunday and Monday evening, makes you think??)
I gave 3 weeks' notice of my cancellation, which is quite sufficient for establishments across the world.
On the 22 august he said he didn't get a booking so he used it himself. (Description about the owner on the website states, "Since we are local, we deal with our guests directly - from key exchanges, to cleaning, to repairs, and anything in between" I doubt if he used it for himself).
Anyway be that as it may, I feel he is quite unreasonable.
Fellow travelers, be sure your circumstances do not change when making a booking with this establishment because you will loose your security deposit.
(NB: Omitted some facts due to space, trip advisor has full details)
Thank you for providing the circumstances around this situation. I would also like to show that the person you had to inquire on the property called on the 18th after i had given my family the cottage for the mentioned dates - as it was unlikely I would book last minute as that rarely occurs in the cottage industry.
Also, to clarify - most vacationers book early and typically do not call last minute, therefore yes I had the opportunity to book those dates several times after you confirmed however was unable to secure the booking after as the dates just did not work with other guests already staying and for the inquiries that were coming in. I hope you would understand that I would obviously take the booking that would be worth considerably more money than the deposit you made to secure the dates. We cannot operate "hoping" someone will rebook after a guest decides to cancel or not show up which does happen. Having a friend inquire about the dates to prove your point last minute just doesn't feel right and does demonstrate your intent.
I would like to thank you for providing notice about the cancellation however it did lead to a considerable loss on our end. We take pride in having our property rented to tourists during this beautiful time of the year. We have made it clear to every visitor to our property that the $100 deposit is to secure the dates and that it will not be returned - unfortunately it has happened but our guests actually did not see any problem with it as they stated most cottage owners request 50% of the cost up front and in some cases 100%.
Unfortunately this did not work out and we regret having anyone upset with our policy however we try our best to be fair in every situation.

Very nice cottage! The owner's were always there when needed. We stayed for 3 nights in august, 4 adults, and 2 children, had lots of room. The only fault was that it was too far away from Cavendish, and that's where the best amusement parks were for the children. However, there was a grocery store just 5 minutes away, if just staying in the area. Read more

I dont know where to start. It was a beautiful cottage.Beautiful spot. Very clean. It is one of the most relaxing and calm places i have been to in a long time. If you need a place to relax and get away from everything, i highly recommend this cottage. There is a grocery store within about 5 minutes.
Need a home away from home...this is it. Read more
