This exceptional one bedroom property offers first class accommodation, perfect for a romantic getaway for two. This deluxe penthouse apartment is located in the wing of a Grade II listed Jacobean mansion on the edge of Orton. Set within five acres of mature wood and parkland, this property has been renovated to retain much of its original character including beautiful beams and some exposed stonework. With a bright, open-plan living area, the apartment combines traditional features with modern amenities. This property also boasts a large, beamed double bedroom and high quality bathroom with corner bath. Guests can also relax in the magnific...ent oak panelled Great Hall with a cosy fire and grand piano.

Amenities: Electric central heating with storage heaters. Double electric cooker, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer in communal utility room (£1 per wash, £1 per dry), widescreen TV, DVD, CD player/cassette/radio etc, small library of books. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Shared use of communal Great Hall with cosy fire and games room. Off road parking for 1 car. Lawned communal grounds with patio, garden chairs and BBQ area. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop 10 mins walk, pub 5 mins walk. Note: This property does not accept children. Town: Set in a secluded position on the eastern fringe of the Lake District National Park is the attractive village of Orton. Along with its neighbours Kendal, Sedbergh and Appleby-in-Westmorland, this pretty town is surrounded by rolling hills and impressive scenery. Above the village is the Orton Scar, a limestone hill that was used to warn the village of Scottish raids. Orton's centre is home to a local pub serving food, a shop with post office, tea-rooms and the famous handmade chocolate shop. The attractive village green is surrounded by 17th and 18th Century cottages whilst there is a farmer’s market in the village square on the second Saturday of every month. All prices are inclusive of the booking fee. The "Min. Per Night" prices quoted are based on the weekly rental price, they are not applicable for short breaks. See our short break policy or ask for further details.
Winter Short Breaks (WSB) are available at many properties in the "Winter" period - subject to availability. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. Off Season Breaks (OSB) are available at many properties in parts of the "Low" and "Mid" periods - subject to availability. The price for a 3 night break is either 75% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. OSBs can be booked within a calendar month of the start date of the holiday. "Last Minute Breaks" (LMB) are available at most properties throughout the "LOW", "MID", "HIGH", "PEAK", "XMAS" and "NEW YEAR" periods. The price for a 3 night break is either 65% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. LMBs can be booked within one week of the start date of the holiday.

  When we booked ,it was difficult to get a good idea of what the penthouse was really like.We walked up the stairs from the front door and thought, this is great.Although we had far from the best of weather, coming in at the end of the day was like coming home. Orton is a lovely village and in an ideal spot(The chocolate shop is a bonus).Close to the motorway but you can't hear it and accessible to many places of interest.

  Fantastic accommodation in an historic manor house

  We stayed at The Penthouse for a week during July. The standard of the decorations and furnishings was very high. The appartment was like a home for home with nothing left out. It was clean and comfortable and made a great base for our week in the Lakes.

  We stayed in the Penthouse during our first week in the UK and we were delighted with the experience. the apartment was lovely and warm, especially arriving from australia to your coldest winter in 100 years! We were greeted with flowers, wine and milk in the fridge which we were very grateful for.
  We would have loved to know more of the history of the Hall, but it did not detract from our holiday. We would highly recommend this to others looking for a quiet romantic spot. Walking is delightful and the local shops provide backup to anything you have forgotten (milk, bread, wine, coffee etc). The local chocolate factory makes fantastic hot chocolate and trempts you with sample chocolates.
  Overall an excellent apartment, which proved to be the best out of the four apartments we rented during our months stay. Well done and thank you. Sally

  Idlyic, is a word that sums up the whole experience. The setting was marvellous and the fire alarm works as the lady looking after the property will testify! Would recommend to family and friends who want a relaxing break in beautiful countryside
