This property boasts a spacious open-plan living area on the first floor and two comfortable bedrooms - one with an en suite bathroom. This outstanding end-terrace cottage is just off the village square in the pretty village of Orton and has been lovingly renovated to provide first class accommodation in an unusual 'upside-down' layout. The modern styling and furnishings combine with the original features to create a property that is full of character. The open-plan sitting area features a wood-burning stove set between window seats and a plasma screen television whilst the dining area is minimalist yet cosy. The cottage is well placed for a...ll local amenities and is situated in the heart of this lovely area of the Lake District.

Amenities: Electric heating with underfloor heating on 1st floor and woodburner & gas stove in living area. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, heated boot rack, widescreen TV, DVD, CD/radio, small library of books etc. Fuel, power & starter pack for woodburner inc. in rent. Bed linen & towels inc. in rent. Cot and highchair. Roadside parking for two cars. Small garden with BBQ at ground floor level leading to raised (first floor level) decked area with furniture (bike storage under deck). Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop and pub 2 mins walk. Note: Check-in time at this property is 4pm.

Above the village sits Orton Scar, a limestone hill, used in days gone by to warn the village of Scottish raiders and popular today with walkers. The village centre has a local pub serving good food, a post office/shop, tea-rooms and the famous handmade chocolate shop and tea-room. A tranquil village green surrounded by 17th and 18th Century cottages adds to its charm and there is a farmer’s market in the village square on the second Saturday of every month. All prices are inclusive of the booking fee. The "Min. Per Night" prices quoted are based on the weekly rental price, they are not applicable for short breaks. See our short break policy or ask for further details.
Winter Short Breaks (WSB) are available at many properties in the "Winter" period - subject to availability. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. Off Season Breaks (OSB) are available at many properties in parts of the "Low" and "Mid" periods - subject to availability. The price for a 3 night break is either 75% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. OSBs can be booked within a calendar month of the start date of the holiday. "Last Minute Breaks" (LMB) are available at most properties throughout the "LOW", "MID", "HIGH", "PEAK", "XMAS" and "NEW YEAR" periods. The price for a 3 night break is either 65% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. LMBs can be booked within one week of the start date of the holiday.

  The cottage was fine, however, then ensuite walk-in
  shower had a clear glass door which did not allow
  privacy when using the toilet! Even after many years of marriage there are a few things you like
  to do alone.
  This was an upside down cottage and upstairs was
  very cold.there was "underfloor heating" which we
  could not discern despite the owner telling us to the contrary. It was a very cold New Year 2009/2010 and probably without underfloor heating it may have been even colder.
  The other facilities,furnishings equipment etc were good, the local pub a little expensive for the kind of food served there. On the whole very
  enjoyable and the owner was most helpful.

  The cottage was wonderful, which I told you before in another revue.
  
  However, I also told you that the base of the fire needs to be painted so that it is obvious to see - stands out from the colour of the rug - as I walked against it and broke a toe! I have had no response to my telling you this so I am very angry indeed that you have sent me a further revue reminder.
  
  Try getting your customer service right and responding to comments like the one I sent last time. I spent 7 weeks not being able to walk properly because of the site of the broken bone(base of toe), which meant that it could not be immobilised.

  Shelter from the storm....

  We stayed at the cottage at the weekend of the worst
  weather that Cumbria has had in a long time so we
  were stuck in doors the full weekend, but what a
  lovely place to be stuck in! The cottage was very
  clean and extremely comfortable and there were loads
  of home comforts, especially for our little toddler.
  The living kitchen area was a great size to potter
  about in and we enjoyed cooking a nice meal and
  sitting by the log burner. The place itself is
  really nice and well worth visiting the chocolate
  factory just across the road from the cottage!
