Description from the owner

Yes, Maison de Horie is a very groovy designer apartment in the midst of Osaka's leading cafe/fashion culture. And, yes! It is very family friendly!

I know those two words "groovy" and "kid friendly" don't normally go well together, but they do at Maison de Horie. As a mother of 3, I know so well how our priorities change in selecting restaurants, movies, holiday destinations and activities before/after the first child. But, we can still go to a nice Italian restaurant for dinner and a nice urban cafe for a real cup of Cafe Latte, and even stay in a groovy designer apartment for the night.

Relaxing space for family with young children

Left on 05/06/2013 for a stay in May 2013

Used the fold up beds in the utility room/ walk in robe which was a little tight but provided us with more room in the lounge. Everything we needed was there. The wading machine worked well but it was easier to use the outside drying area on the balcony. There was little bit of outside noise in the streets on the weekend even though it was a tenth floor apartment. Being right around the corner from a train station and a few convenience stores was very handy. The check in and check out arrangements were well explained and made it very easy. Whilst generally well presented and clean I was unsure whether the sheets had been changed and we found old socks under the basin in the bathroom so some improvement there would be good.

      A vacation to remember

Left on 04/18/2013 for a stay in March 2013

This is our first trip to Japan and we really have regretted not coming here sooner. The flat which we rented contributed to the success of our trip. It was in a very good location just minutes away from the shopping district (Shinsaibashi and Namba). The train station is just steps away and there are restaurants all over the area. The apartment is quite nice and well apportioned. Although it would be nice if the sofa can be converted into a bed since the foton beds are quite stiff. There was a minor issue on the unwashed dishes when we arrived but since we seldom eat in the house, we never used the plates. Besides, the owner was so gracious to compensate us for the said minor issue.

I have promised my children that we will be back soon, and I would definitely be using the same apartment if time permits.

      excellent place for family

Left on 03/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We stayed here for 6 days. We bought fresh seafood and vegetable in the market and cooked in its kitchen. We and 3 kids enjoyed staying this home-like apartment. It is also close to the subway, though it is a little troublesome for taking little kid to transfer to the main subway route.

      Taste of Japan, great apartment!

Left on 12/30/2012 for a stay in November 2012

Stayed here for four days in Nov and loved it! Spacious, convenient location, right near a subway station. Great convenience stores right there. Instructions to access were very thorough and easy to understand.

Place could have been cleaner on arrival, but they discounted one night's accommodation, much appreciated. Loved that there were local contact details available if we needed them, but were left to our own devices once there.

Very quiet neighborhood, friendly neighbors, and a couple of bars and cafes right opposite the apartment as well.

Thank you very much for your positive review for Maison de Horie Apartment in Osaka. We did have to get a one off cleaning person to clean the apartment before your arrival, as our normal cleaning staff was sick. Our sincere apology for the imperfect cleaning job. We hope you found a refund of one night charge we had made was sufficient enough to compensate for the discomfort you may have experienced.
Look forward to welcoming you back in our favorite Japanese city, Osaka!

Great apartment, quiet location, good value homebase in Osaka!

Left on 11/12/2012 for a stay in October 2012

We picked this apartment from photos and reviews on Tripadvisor. The photos depict the apartment well. I love the fact that it has a rustic industrial feel to it. Very nice!

There are 5 of us, two adults and three kids, two of whom are teenagers. The usual sleeping arrangements are for Two adults and two kids. The sleeping arrangements are fine for four. We borrowed a futon from a friend for the 5th person but it was a little crowded, I wouldn't recommend it for more than four people, unless the 5th person is a baby.

The apartment consists of one bedroom, to the left as you enter the apartment. A bathroom with bath shower, basin and toilet to the right of the entry. The bed is comfortable. The bathroom is great.

Past the bathroom on the right is a good kitchen with stove, mini oven (cheese on toast style) microwave, fridge and dishwasher. Nice deep sink for prep or washing dishes by hand. There are lots of bits and pieces left here that you can use. Past the bedroom on the left is what would be a storeroom/robe. It can be used for the two foldaway beds or just one bed. We hung our clothes and put our shopping and luggage in this room.

Finally there is the dining/lounge area with large TV/lounge/coffee table, dining table/chairs. Good air-conditioning and good wifi.

The location is close to Nipponbashi and Shinsaibashi. You can take the subway which is around the corner from this building or if you like to walk it is not too far on foot if you have directions and walking is much more interesting anyway!! There are two supermarkets close by. A mini mart and a 7 which are very convenient.

The whole place is white including the curtains and lounge which made it a bit harsh on the eyes when the sun was shining through. My critisisms of the apartment are the curtains could be thicker and perhaps white not the best colour. The lounge being white means it is a little "knocked around".

As far as service is concerned, you shouldn't really need to contact the apartment staff. They provide a good information package before you arrive and there is an information folder with further explanations inside the apartment. We did need to contact them on one occasion and they responded very promptly. We also had a small issue with the cleaner. We told the staff and this has been dealt with promptly and professionally. The contact details are provided clearly if you do have a problem.

There is a deposit that is required because this is not a hotel, but if you leave the apartment in good condition, this is returned to you.

At the end of the day, we loved this apartment for value, location and convenience. We would recommend it and in fact I have already recommended it to someone who is travelling to Japan from Canada.

      Comfortable, quiet and convenient

Left on 07/26/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We are a family of 4 and found this apartment to be very suitable, roomy and comfortable. I think the location is great, the train station is handy and a short walk to Shinsaibashi area and shops etc. Very vibrant and I wished we stayed longer than 3 nights. The beds are fine, after long days shopping and sightseeing sleeping is not an issue. We would have liked a iron though, otherwise well equipped.

      Comfortable apartment, quiet location

Left on 06/26/2012 for a stay in June 2012

This apartment is located near the Nishiohashi Subway station - quite easy and convenient to get to the subway. The neighbourhood is quiet and away from the crowds. Lots of convenience stores around, plus some quick eats if one is too lazy to travel further for food.

The apartment is well furnished, and comfortable for the 3 of us. The single bed's mattress is a bit thin though, but nothing that cant be fixed by adding the other single mattress on top (or the duvet). Good use of space and quite adequately equipped for a comfortable stay.

The team that handled our booking and requests were efficient and friendly, and the instructions provided made it easy to access the apartment and the equipment inside this apartment.

If there were things for improvement, I would say that it would have been perfect if this apartment were at one of the hubs like Nippombashi, or Shinbashi - Nishiohashi always necessitates a one stop to change to another line to get anywhere - but small matter - adds 3 to 5 mins time, that's all.

The other improvement that could be made administratively is that the payments are transacted via paypal, which is fine and efficient, but the deposit return is returned via paypal - well and good if one is actively on the paypal system, if not, more work to get the money back from paypal.

This is my first time renting a vacation rental home - and from this experience, wont be my last! Thanks for a comfortable stay in Osaka!

      Trendy and indeed Family friendly

Left on 06/16/2012 for a stay in June 2012

As a family of five with three children under six, finding suitable accomodation when away from home is a challenge. Hotel rooms are too small and somewhat hit and miss bed size. This apartment was fantastic, great location, well appointed and a joy to come home to after a day exploring the city. My wife and I appreciated the convenience of the location and its easy access for our stroller as well as having all the amenities one would have at home. Our children appreciated the ability to relax in front of cable TV, enjoy a bath and have room to play. The entire process was simple and the manager and owner always available to answer questions.

We would certain,y stay again next time in Osaka and this property would suit anyone looking for comfort and convenience, be it an individual business person, a couple or a family lie ours.

Convenient and comfortable stay in central Osaka

Left on 04/10/2012 for a stay in March 2012

The booking of this apartment was easy and the journey was well described. It was comfortable for our family to stay in for 2 weeks, and the facilities all worked and their instructions were explained in good English. Our only suggestions would be to have darker curtains in the bedrooms to help adjust to jet-lagged sleep patterns, 3rd & 4th beds are folding beds.

The apartment is in a good central location in Osaka, approximately 25 mins from the Shin-Osaka station for Shinkansen access, and 10 mins walk to the nearest subway. We easily visited Kobe, Nara, and Hiroshima for day trips. We found Osaka subway network easy to use and visited the Castle, Aquarium, river and the Sumo Contest which was great. Visiting at the beginning of april gives great viewing of the Blossom, which is very popular with the Japanese and tourists.

      Fantastic stay, Our home-away-from-home!

Left on 12/01/2010 for a stay in November 2010

Like the previous reviewer, we were uncertain as to what to expect, but with 3 young kids our accommodation options were limited...when we found out this was available we booked it for 10 nights, and used it as a base to explore Osaka, Kyoto, Nara & even did a day trip to Hiroshima from there.

The detailed directions sent to us, and the appliance instructions provided were very much appreciated and made life much easier. The well-equipped kitchen meant we could do as many of our own meals as we wanted, and once we found where the supermarkets were it became easy.

The baby cot was set up and waiting for our toddler when we got there, and we found the apartment very child-friendly, but with all the mod cons and very comfortable...we were able to wash & dry our clothes every night which was great, and everything you need is provided (there's an ironing board but we couldn't find an iron anywhere). It was definitely a home away from home for us.

The apartment is centrally located and a short walk to great shopping & entertainment areas, and the close subway station makes trekking around a breeze. If you don't need hotel services and like a bit of space then this is perfect. We would absolutely recommend this apartment and plan to stay here again in the future.

Very convenient for my family of four. Highly recommended.

Left on 10/25/2010 for a stay in October 2010

Our family of four stayed at this apartment for four nights. It is very well-equipped and neat. The building is a residential apartments, two minutes walk from Nishiohashi station, which is a small subway line/station one stop from shopping area Shinsaibashi.

We did not know what to expect when we put down the payment (all made in advance). The address given initially was not easily spotted on Google Maps. However, once the payment was received, the owner sent us detailed, step-by-step information of how to get there. Likewise, inside the apartment, there was a handbook explaining how the appliances work. This is essential as the description buttons of the air-con & TV remote controls, microwave, toilet, etc are all in Japanese.

We found the area of the building safe, with a nearby convenient store and several restaurants. The apartment is new and very big, especially if compared to hotel rooms. There is a master bedroom, a second room for setting up foldaway beds (looks like it was meant to be a walk-in closet/storage room), a big shower and bath area, and a modern Japanese toilet with a washing machine. The living area is an open plan of a sofa with TV and iPod dock and Bose sound system, connecting to dining area with a table and four Philippe Starck Kartell chairs, kitchen island equipped with dishwasher, sink, a big cupboard with sliding mirror doors, inside which there was a full-sized fridge, electric kettle, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, utensils and cutlery, tea sachets, sugar, etc. This is truly home away from home. We highly recommend this place for a group/family of two to four.
