Additional Location Information
The property is situated in a valley on the road between Ostuni and Martina Franca and is 6km from Ostuni in the countryside.
Local Activities
There are lots of things to do in this part of Apulia as follows:
Ostuni
- beautiful town perched on a hill 5km away with an old historic centre with very old cathedral and central plaza.
Fasano
- lovely little old town with a pretty central square and a safari zoo for children (see leaflet in red file) The shops are closed on Mondays in this town.
Lecce
- a beautiful historic city with an old historic centre and beautiful churches and little curiosity shops and great delicatessen. ( an hour drive) This has a market on Friday mornings. See the red folder in the house for a map showing all the attractions.
Martina Franca
- another lovely town with a historic centre about 12km away (15-20 mins) with lots of little boutiques. This has a very famous music festival in July and early August.
Gallipoli
- a coastal town with a beautiful harbour (just over an hour drive away)
Otranto
- this is quite a touristy seaside town but has a lovely old centre and great walk along the harbour walls with lots of sea view restaurants.
Monopoli
- this is an unspoilt little walled, historic town right on the coast with a lovely little sandy beach, high castle walls and a reasonably priced fish restaurant overlooking the coast just south of the town. Just head up the A379 in direction of Bari and you will come to it.
Polignano a Mare
- another lovely little unspoilt walled town right on the coast.
Other Places of Interest
Castel del Monte
This is a Swabian castle listed by UNESCO and built in 13th century with good views and is situated near Bari. It has been restored and you can visit the inside.
Egnazia
These are the ancient roman ruins of the town dating back to the 6th century which are situated on the coast, south of Monopoli.
Trulli villages of Alberobello & Locorotondo
These villages are a bit touristy but you will be able to see over a thousand trullo, cone shaped houses and a trullo church, all in one place. Head west from Ostuni and they are about a 20-25 min drive away.
Parco Nazionale dei Gargano
If you feel like a long drive and some beautiful scenery then I would recommend this area which is about a 2-3 hr drive north from Ostuni. It is full of pine covered slopes and sandy coves. It is directly north of Bari and the best beach area is the little fishing port of Peschici on its north coast.
Matera
This town was the setting for the film called The Passion. It is in the province of Basilicata and has dramatic scenery and spectacular homes called sassi built into the sides of the ravine and is recommended for a visit. It is directly inland from Bari and takes about 1.5 - 2 hours to drive there via Alberobello or via Martina Franca and Massafra.
Caves of Castellana Grotte
These caves are meant to be spectacular and worth a visit.
Cassano d. Murge
This is little town directly inland from Bari which has a festa for the first 3 days of August each year which has been recommended. You can see the parade of the saints and it is meant to be a lot of fun.

Leeds, UKRelaxing, quiet, set in beautiful countryside
Left on 09/28/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Good directions, key left in key safe and villa clean and well stocked on arrival - enough to make a decent meal. Nice pool and comfortable but not luxurious accomodation. Kitchen space a bit tight so not ideal for any chefs. Third bedroom located downstairs and accessed from outside which not a problem for us as son is 20 but could be for young families. Good base to explore delightful area with beautiful towns with old town centres, good restaurants (cheap and great antipasti). Very quiet location - restful. Beaches 15 minutes drive. No air con which wasn't a major problem as temperature was around 30 during day and 20 at night. Thanks

LondonWonderful, relaxing oasis andreat base for exploring Puglia.
Left on 07/05/2011 for a stay in June 2011
Situated in the rolling hills just outside Ostuni (in Puglia), the chalet is a haven for anyone looking for peace and quite. Ideally situated for exploring Puglia - from Trulli houses to walled cities to historic ports, the chalet also offers a great place to relax and recharge the batteries, whether it's sitting by the pool or enjoying the stars whilst eating freshly cooked food from the BBQ, washed down by some great southern Italian wines. And eating out is still fantastic value.

Our stay in Villa Rosa was all we were looking for in a relaxing summer family holiday. Before we went we received really helpful instructions how to get there, what to take, what the house was like etc which made life much less stressfull. The house is well appointed with several dining areas and a good BBQ. The pool is fantastic, so good we only went to the beach a couple of times finding it much more relaxing to stay at the very peaceful villa. Local towns (Ostuni an Cisternino) good for eating out with kids and icecream, locals really friendly. We would definitely recommend it!

LondonRoom with a Trulli amazing view
Left on 10/22/2010 for a stay in September 2010
Apart from the lovely pool you would not class Villa Rosa as a 'luxury' villa, unless you count amazing views & location & a garden full of fig & almond trees as luxury - we do!! The house itself is clean & comfortable with character & the outside space is terrific - We had breakfast on the terrace, moved to the pool then barbequed in the evening.
There is loads to do in this very pretty area - we were too busy visiting the lovely hilltop towns for delicious lunches & shopping (Martina Franca) to make it to any of the beaches
We found driving very easy, with quiet roads winding through olive groves & even navigated & parked in some busy towns with relative ease.
If you like marble floors & luxury fittings this villa is not for you, but if you want to swim relax & explore in a stunning rural location at a very reasonable price, this is perfect. 1 tip - hire a small car as road to the house involves squeezing through narrow stone walled lanes - all worth it though! -

DublinThe best holiday we've ever had.
Left on 10/22/2010 for a stay in June 2010
Arrived home from a fantastic two weeks at Villa Rosa in July and have already booked for July next year.
The property is extremely comfortable and the pool is excellently situated and a very good size.
We are a family of five, two adults, a teenager and two younger children and we all enjoyed every minute. Having spent the past two years in Ostuni and having fallen for this area we discovered Cisternino this year which is a ten minute drive from Villa Rosa. It is a beautiful little town with lovely people and lots of really good places to hang out and relax. We only spent our evenings there as the villa was so comfortable and the pool so useful that we didn't feel the need to go out during the day as we had already seen all the local famous sites.
The most important asset of Villa Rosa is without doubt the local representative, Annie Thomas. You just cannot put a price on local knowledge and expertise with fluent Italian (we had none). Annie is worth her weight in gold and was always available and ready and willing to help with all matters. Shes a gem and has become a friend after our visit.
You will also read comments about the road to the villa which is very narrow and an experience, but in reality no narrower than most rural Italian roads. You get used to it very quickly and I loved driving along it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and as I've already said we have already booked again for next year.
