Additional Location Information
We named our Villa Volcanoes Lodge due to its unique setting. Located at 2.600m in the northern Andes of Ecuador and within a 5minute walk from the main plaza of the rural village of San Pablo del Lago, we are surrounded by 4 majestic peaks of (extinct) volcanoes: Imbabura, Cusin, snowcapped Cotacachi and the Mojanda rim.
Its just a 1.5 hour drive from Quito international airport, and yet another world. Indigenous walk their cows to the grazing field every morning. The land is worked the old fashioned way and fresh mountain air clears your senses.
We have renowned hotels with an excellent restaurant offer within a 10 minute drive and some of Ecuador´s tourist attractions such as famous Otavalo market or Cuicocha crater lagoon are just 30 minutes away.
The list of possible daily excursions and adventures is endless:
Go horseback riding at a colonial hacienda or trout fishing at a hidden lagoon. Visit a traditional backstrap weaver and shop handicrafts in Otavalo. Climb Imbabura volcanoe or explore Cuicocha crater lake by boat. Shop leather goods in Cotacachi or antiques in San Antonio. Visit a rose plantation or a dairy farm. See wild condors flying and pet alpacas. What do you like to do?

This was perhaps the 7th time my family and I have stayed at 4 Volcanoes. Each time the bedrooms and common areas are spotless and the service impeccable. Thomas and Christina are the consummate hosts. They ensure a lovely experience for every guest.
The house itself and the surrounding lawn and garden are all spectacular. It is a one-of-a-kind property not just in Ecuador, but among the many countries we have visited. The architecture and the views transport everyone to a festive and relaxed mindset. It has the amenities of a 5 star hotel, plus extra personalized touches. I won't ruin the surprises.
4 Volcanoes is strategically located near many of Ecuador's most sought-after attractions (Otavalo indigenous market, Cotocachi leather works, Peguche waterfall, etc.) and the property is also a destination in and of itself. I have recommended this house/lodge to many friends, all of whom loved it, and many decided after arriving to spend all their time at 4Volcanoes because it is indeed such a special place.
One of the most magical things about this lodge is that inside its gates it truly does feel like a 5 star resort. But just outside its gates is the real Ecuador that you can plunge into whenever you wish--by buying bread at the bakery 5 blocks away, climbing Imbabura mountain outside your door, or taking a local bus to Otavalo for 25 cents. -

UKMagical, Powerful, dream come true!

I actually came to 4 Volcanoes to have my baby boy! I visited for England for 3 months and had a beautiful time in this powerful and gorgeous home. Its the perfect setting to stay with friends and family and the big dining table hosted many parties - 2 Christmas lunches and a Thanksgiving dinner! It was a very special time in my life, one I will always treasure and the owners Christina and Thomas are accomplished, very helpful and, along with their 3 adorable sons are wonderful people to get to know. I loved the freshly harvested gooey honey that Thomas harvested on the property, watching Christina work her gift with the horses and playing with the myriad of cats, puppies, and kids ! You also can not beat the roaring log fire in the main room for a real festive family feeling, or the one in the bedroom for a cosy night cap. There is much much more... You'll love it here!

Definitely stay at this place! We spent two weeks here and could not have been happier! The house is modern, immaculate, and spacious. Christina and Thomas (you'll love them), live within the compound, but not in this house, so you're getting a residence designed exclusively for the traveler. The kitchen is user-friendly and has an a good supply of utensils, etc. We used the pizza oven numerous times with great success. The jacuzzi was fun in the evenings, and the smell of eucalyptus wood fired up every evening in the living room and bedrooms by Juanita was truly special. On that note, pay the extra nothing and get Juanita to clean every day! Make sure you visit the Presidential hacienda for a horsehide - absolutely a gorgeous place (btw - bring your fishing pole, as the hacienda has a series of fine trout ponds.) As Christina likes to say "this is horse country!". We had all of kids from just shy of 3 to 20 years old up and riding throughout our time there and they absolutely loved it! Don't be timid if you haven't ridden - Christina taught all of our kids and my wife very quickly, so that you'll be able to go on those gorgeous hacienda rides in no time. For hikers, Thomas is a great guide, very knowledgable and enthusiastic. My wife and oldest daughter conquered the mighty Fuya Fuya at 14,000 feet thanks to him.
A note on safety. We traveled through Ecuador fairly extensively by rental car and never had any issues. Reading the U.S. State Dept summary could easily turn you off to Ecuador. Don't fall for it - you will be absolutely safe. The Otavalo area is particularly quiet. As for driving yourself - it was fine for us, but unless you've traveled a bit, it can be challenging. The extreme ups and downs in the terrain, coupled with two-lane roads, create pretty tough conditions, as the multitude of trucks travel very slowly, forcing multiple passing situations. Not for the faint of heart! (for directions, my Ipad was absolutely essential in the "maps" mode).

4Volcanoes is one of these magic places that you never forget about, it is so beautiful and spacious. We had the most wonderful and relaxed stay enjoying the inmaculate house and our bedroom with its own cozy fireplace, soaking in the spa at night, delicious breakfast prepared by our delightful housekeeper Juanita and not to mention the Rings company. Thanks for organizing all the special (off the beaten track) activities. Riding beneath these Volcanoes was truly breathtaking. Thanks again. We can absolutely recomend this villa.
