Luxury, Green, Multiple Award Winning.

Seven miles from sleepy Sidmouth, at the foot of East Hill, are 17 acres of old apple farm, now populated with tipis, hens, farmhouse, gardens, play areas, a large courtyard with picnic tables and six super cottages. It's heaven for children and relaxing for grown-ups, what with pampering treatments from Jacqueline (Indian head massages, Japanese facials) and heaps to do. As for Pippin Cottage, the former wagon store, it is oozing luxury, and beautifully cared for inside and out. You get sweeping oak floors and a huge leather sofa, fashionable florals and a wood-burning stove, atmospheric lighting...Read more

Additional Location Information

Mazzard Farm has everything a great holiday needs. 17 acres (6.5 hectares) of gorgeous woodland, fields, gardens, an orchard, children's play areas and a cobbled courtyard together offer a great opportunity to have a wonderful time. Whether you are looking for serenity or activity, an area to play and have fun, or sit down and relax, enjoy the beauty of nature or enjoy night skies so black you didn't even know existed, we can guarantee that Mazzard Farm has it all. Mazzard Farm is not a working farm (bar some ex-battery hens supplying us with lovely eggs, a rabbit and two guinea pigs), but we are surrounded by many, so no shortage of cattle, sheep and horses in the immediate area.

And we are not the only ones recognising the beauty of Mazzard Farm. An abundance of wildlife pay us regular visits; deer, foxes, buzzards, badgers, squirrels, bats, and many more. And they know what you will quickly discover once you are here: Mazzard Farm is heaven on earth!

Ottery St. Mary is a small town, situated on the river Otter, in East Devon, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Cushioned in between West Hill and East Hill (where you find Mazzard Farm), Ottery is a friendly place, offering a remarkable number of shops in relation to its size, most of whom locally owned (and many also locally sourced!). Towering over the town is the Parish Church of St. Mary. A beautiful Gothic building, and modelled on Exeter Cathedral.

The town is possibly best known as the birth place of the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and avid Harry Potter fans will know Ottery as 'Ottery St. Catchpole', the home village of the Weasley family. German readers of this site will recognise the town from its frequent appearance in the 'Rosamunde Pilcher' films. Presently, Ottery St. Mary's main claim to fame is the annual Tar Barrels event, held every 5th of November. A spectacle that must be seen to be believed (see Links section for more details).

Ottery St. Mary is twinned with Pont L'Eveque in France and Ilsfeld in Germany, and also holds close ties with a mountain village in Japan that goes by the name of 'Otari' (pronounced 'Ottery'). A further Japanese link is provided by Sir Ernest Satow, who played a vital role in Anglo-Japanese relationships in the 19th century, and who, after retiring in Ottery St. Mary, was buried in the churchyard of St. Mary's.

East Devon is, as mentioned, acknowledged as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and also includes a major stretch of the World Heritage Coast (the Jurassic Coast) as classified by Unesco. The District offers everything that makes the South West of England a holiday destination of choice for so many, yet because of its proximity to the A30 and M5, railway stations in Exeter and Honiton and the airport in Exeter, access to East Devon and Ottery St. Mary is very good. East Devon is bordered by Dorset on the East, Somerset and Mid Devon on the North, and South Devon on the West. Well-known tourist 'hot spots' in East Devon include Sidmouth, Branscombe, Beer, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth and Topsham.

Still not sure whether there is enough to do in and around Mazzard Farm, mail us and ask for a complimentary copy of our 'Guide to East Devon' (in .pdf). We will happily send you one.
