Sahara Safari Camp
Oulad Driss, Morocco
Additional Location Information
The Sahara Safari Camp is located in an exceptional secluded position near to the small town of Tagounite, well away from the crowds of tourists that frequent over-developed Mhamid and Merzouga. Within walking distance from camp you can explore nearby adobe villages, palm plantations and the irrigated oasis of the Draa valley. Our camp is surrounded by sweeping dunes which are dotted with date palms and home to a variety of birds, desert foxes and other wildlife.
From Marrakech the Sahara Safari Camp can be reached in a day by 4x4 (or self-drive car with a short 6 km transfer by high clearance 4x4 which we can arrange) on a scenically diverse drive through the High Atlas to Ouarzazate and south along the palm-filled plantations and fields of the Draa Valley to Zagora then to Tagounite in the Moroccan Sahara. From Ouarzazate a direct drive to the tented camp takes a 3.5 hours.
During a stay at the camp our guests enjoy camel trekking tours in the desert (meharee); 4x4 desert drives and deeper exploration of the Sahara; desert nature walks (there is lots of interesting wildlife around camp); nomad encounters; visit to and stroll around oases and nearby adobe villages; and magical night-time star-gazing.
For those on self-drive trips in hire-cars we have secure parking for your vehicle available near Ait Isfoul village, from there you can either ride a camel or walk to camp. Parking is free. If you travel in a self-drive 4×4 you will be able to drive directly to camp after rendezvous with one of our camp staff who will guide you.
