Cottage Profile 'Take a 'royal' summer vacation at this cottage located adjacent to the grounds of the former King's Royal Hotel located north of Owen Sound in Balmy Beach! In 1901, the King's Royal Hotel was built to rival the large popular resorts in that other popular destination - Muskoka! Following the demise of the King's Royal Hotel in 1916, it's theatre later became the Balmy Beach Dance Pavilion which it featured the cool jazz sounds of Louis Armstrong.' The cottage is a 1450 square foot, 3 bedroom cottage with a spectacular view of Georgian Bay. There ia an airy sunroom where the summer reading happens with an interior that has been... renovated and pleasingly decorated as a former bed and breakfast. The main living area is finished with natural finished plank floors and has nice big windows that allow light to filter the room. The living room provides a couch and three chairs to relax in, as well as a view of the water. There is no TV to spoil the ambiance! The dining room of the cottage is also finished with natural finished plank floors, as well as seating for all six (6) people in your family. (plus standing room for the resident knight!) The compact kitchen is easily accessible off the dining room. There is fridge, stove, sink (and a half), microwave and dishwasher, all within an efficient cooking triangle – no big walks here. Cupboards are finished in warm natural honey pine wood. Counter space is limited. To 'The mudroom is a small area with a piano and sofa for quiet reading. Adjacent to it, there is a 2 piece bathroom in which to wash up before meals. Upstairs, as creatively guided there by the sailboat mast and tiller used as a railing, there are three bedrooms. The master bedroom is large and looks out to the lake. The remaining two are modest but are complemented by antique period furniture – headboard and dressers. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed while Bedroom 2 and 3 have double beds. Upstairs, there is one four piece bathroom with both tub and shower. In the back yard there is a playscape (shared with the neighbor) for the children in the party to enjoy. In front, looking to the water, you will find a small wooden deck with a patio table and umbrella to enjoy your holiday outdoors. Across the road from the cottage is the gravelly-sand shoreline of Georgian Bay at which there is a long dock for you to sit at and enjoy the view out over the clear water. You will need water shoes to enjoy it. There is a enclosed sandy area for the children but the high water levels are encroaching on it. The cottage is conveniently located close enough to all that the City of Owen Sound has to offer yet far enough away to feel like a holiday from the hustle and bustle of city life. Fishing in the bay is good in the spring (rainbow) and fall (salmon), with some mid-summer fishing. Fishermen flock to the area and nearby rivers to catch salmon (remember the September Salmon Spectacular!), rainbow, and lake trout. The cottage is close to many attractions. It is only a five minute drive to Owen Sound with shopping malls, restaurants (Rocky Raccoon), museums and art galleries (Tom Thomson Gallery).

  We planned a girls week away for our family and we had very specific needs. We had a teenager, a senior with limited mobility, someone who is visually impaired who travels with a guide dog and myself. This cottage had everything we needed. The location is perfect. The neighbours were extremely friendly and helpful. The water was beautiful and crystal clear. For most of the week we used the communal dock which was fantastic. Towards the end of the week however, it wasn't really available to us so we happily used the small beach area (bring umbrellas because there is no shade in this area). The cottage itself had everything you could possibly need. Having two bathrooms was a luxury. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the view from the front bedroom was breathtaking. The internet access was hit and miss (although we expected this) but we were able to watch movies on our laptop since there is no TV. The drive to the garbage dump/recycling dump was farther than we thought and you pay by the bag. There is a garbage/recycling pick up during the week and we couldn't understand why the renters weren't allowed or told to use this. We would recommend this cottage and we are looking forward to going back.
