We very much enjoyed our stay in Chilton. The cottage was lovely and cosy. Though with all the necessary modcomfs it still kept its authentic style. Service was great from the very beginning. Quick and nice response on mails and Sheila is an excellent hostess who gave us a warm welcome. Sh
e also provided us with useful information and made us feel at ease and at home immediately. Chilton is a quiet village with a nice authentic pub which serves great food. Due to its location near the main road there is easy access to Oxford or into the Cotswolds.
Would higly recommend it to anyone :-)

Comfortable apartment with all the facilities you need. The kitchen is full equipment, we cooked our Christmas dinner there. The area is quiet enough for having a break from the city, but not too far to Oxford in the car.

Lovely accomodation, and a really warm welcome on arrival. We arrived very late and yet Sheila welcomed us personally and gave us good advice on where to visit and what to do. We had a lovely day in oxford and blenheim palace and the landlord of the pub in the village was very friendly too.

Stayed for a week in Tolkien Cottage in October while visiting relatives in Oxford. Nice and quiet location (you cannot hear the local a34 at all).
The cottage was cosy and warm. Despite the weather not being great it was nice to have a private garden for the kids to play safely in.
The cottage was very clean & had just about everything we needed (including nice touches like a night-light for the kids).
Would definitely recommend -

Overall condition of the apartments were good, the manager helpful. However the bed mattresses were very soft and bouncy which we didn't like, and the hot water seemed to run out quickly so we only had enough for about 1 bath, and the internet connection was patchy. Although useful for getting to places quickly by car the nearby road ( dual carriageway) was noisy when walking in the fields nearby which was disappointing.

Owner
Thank you for sending a review and sorry to hear your stay left you slightly disappointed. The bed mattresses have toppers on them for extra comfort. Sheila at reception would have been happy to remove them for you had you brought it to her attention. The hot water tanks are similar to most households. If you have baths as well as using the washing machine at the same time then the hot water tank will eventually empty (we are not a hotel with unlimited supplies of hot water after all). Even when there has been excessive usage the tank will heat back up after 40 mins or so.
The WiFi connection is checked regularly so it may have been a temporary issue outside of our control.
There are numerous walks around the village where you cannot hear the A34 at all but yes you will hear traffic noise if you take the only walk which runs under the dual carriageway. -

ChiltonQuite literally a home from home

We were in South africa when the big freeze hit Oxfordshire, our house in Chilton froze, then thawed and the rest is a soggy history. Sheila and Giles were brilliant - we contacted them from Cape Town and they arranged for us to move into one of their apartmnents when we returned a few days later. They couldn't have been kinder or more helpful, and initially the apartment, then the cottage was wonderful. Both had enough space for us to live properly for the four weeks we stayed there, as well as wi-fi which was vital because of the need to remain in contact with the insurance company and loss adjusters etc. So this wasn't a holiday, at the time it was more a "stress" test but Sheila, Giles and their property met and exceeded all our expectations - even to the point of providing us with freshly laid eggs. I would recommend it to any of our family or friends who wanted to visit us in Chilton (assuming we get back into our property some time soon!). The area around Chilton is a great place for walks and both the coast and the Cotswolds are within an hour's drive.

Very warm and comfortable apartment with all the facilities you need. Good bathroom with powerful shower. Quiet location so got a good sleep, but not too far from Didcot or Oxford in the car. Very clean and well maintained throughout.

The Churchill apartment was great, very well furnished and comfortable to live in. It is also well located for discovering the countryside and the most famous places around. Moreover we had a very warm welcom from Sheila, who is available and kind.
We warmly recommend that place for a week end or short holidays. -

Our week long stay at Chilton House was wonderful! Great location, clean and comfortable with a great history. The village was beautiful and the people were friendly. We traveled for 31 days around Europe and my kids & their friends (ages 18-21) say that yours was their favorite place the entire month!

We arrived at Tolkien Cottage to be met by the the friendly owner who had our accommodations ready for us earlier than expected. The cottage had all amenities necessary for our stay plus a lovely garden with picnic table for outside meals.
The location was quiet, clean and comfortable. There are many attractions close by including Oxford University. Do not miss the village church and churchyard nor the local pub.
The booking process was straightford and "user friendly". If fact, it was so easy we had some concerns when comparing it to other properties we booked from abroad. The owners simply are organized, knowledgable and have a strong interest in this historical former stable which they also call home.
We will definitely return to Chilton Cottages.

Staying here was very pleasant despite some concerted efforts by a certain volcano, intent on disturbign our trip. Giles and Sheila were very patient with us, given that we had to cancel our first dates, and then went to great lengths to fit us in with our new dates! We felt very well looked after!!
The location is great - pretty straight forward to find - even without sat-nav. Whilst there is no 'walkable' village shop, there is a pleasant pub just down the road which does meals and drinks - great!! Lovely play area for kids, and pleasant walks close by (for the warmer months!!).
Sheila was very helpful directing us around, and the cottage was well equipped with everything you would want. Oxford just down the road - Stonehenge easily accessible, as is London. A great place to stay and still be able to enjoy the sites of London and the surrounding area. We'll certainly recommend it!!
