      Hawiian Paradise

Left on 03/17/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We stayed here for two nights at the end of our honeymoon and were delighted. Great setting in a rain forest, large screened porch, attractive and comfortable guest room, and great breakfasts (including gluten-free options). Our hosts were very gracious, and very knowledgeable about local sites of interest, which include an awesome black sand beach and lava flows into the water (best accessed by boat). Our stay here was wonderful, and this is the best bed and breakfast that either of us have ever stayed in.

We wanted a quiet getaway on the Big island to celebrate our 25th anniversary, and the Ohia House more than met our expectations. Being the only guests in a very comfortable room with a large screened in porch, in a secluded tropical setting was special. Add to that the most amazing breakfasts, and gracious hospitality of our hosts, and we feel that we did find "a little bit of paradise". J

Hands down the best place we've stayed in the islands! Completely secluded in the rain forest in Leilani Estates in Pahoa. Relaxing any time of the day. A great place to unwind! Cindy and Rick are great hosts and Cindy's breakfasts were amazing and her recommendations of places to visit and eat were extremely helpful. We are hooked and will return.

On a recent trip to Hawaii, we had the good fortune to book three nights at the Ohia House. Like the name says, it is tucked away in an ohia forest, remote, but with easy access to all the fun stuff. Your room is private and separate from the main house. The grounds are lush with brilliant, tropical colors. The birds sing by day, the frogs by night. Your private screened lanai is your front row seat to this paradise. Cindy and Rick are warm, gracious hosts. The breakfasts, which are made from fresh, local ingredients, are incredible. Go once, you'll be compelled to return.

      Super!

Left on 10/31/2011 for a stay in October 2011

I completely enjoyed my stay at the Ohia House B&B;!! The room was so relaxing and clean. The bed was luxurious to sleep in. There is a mini fridge, microwave, snorkel mask/snorkel, extra towels, coffee maker/tea available. The room has extra space with a couch and desk. The bathroom was very private and you can tell the owners of the Ohia house have excellent taste. The salt water pool is extremely inviting- I enjoyed swimming laps! The frogs and the rain were so soothing to listen to at night while sleeping. The huge screened in porch area is a great extension of the room where I enjoyed relaxing mosquito free, listening to rain storms, reading and eating amazing breakfasts! The fact that there is only one B&B; accommodation means that you are spoiled rotten. Cindy knows just what to recommend when planning your day trips. She gave me excellent advice about visiting nearby volcano national park, the town of volcano for lunch and going back for a hike and nighttime viewing. She can direct you to the hot ponds, black sand beach with giant turtles, tide pools and a great surfing site (Rick will probably elaborate on this one!). They can also recommend great restaurants and local secrets! I will definitely be recommending Ohia B&B; to all my friends and family. I can't wait for my next trip back to Ohia house.

I really enjoyed the Ohia House. The location is secluded and beautiful, but close to town, Volcanoes Natl Park, and the beach. My room had a fridge and micro as well as beach towels and snorkel gear, and was nice and spacious. And breakfast served on the lanai! Yum, yum yum! Also, you are the only guest at Ohia, so it is perfect for people who may not be comfortable usually at B&Bs;.

We had a wonderful stay at Ohia House. Rick and Cindy were gracious hosts. Our room was comfortable and equipped with anything we could possibly need, including binoculars, umbrellas, a cooler, travel guides and so much more. It was spotless and nicely decorated. The Lanai was also beautifully decorated with lovely outdoor furniture and orchids everywhere. Breakfast each day was delicious and consisted of fresh fruits and interesting local fare. Cindy is a wealth of knowledge about the area and gave us many great tips as we planned our daily tours of Hawaii. Ohia House is located near Pahoa, a charming town, in a beatuful neighborhood surrounded by native plants and flowers. We felt we were in our own little "paradise". Ohia House is a great stay and a terrific value. We highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

when paradise begins in Hawaii it just starts at Ohia House at Pahoa. A great place just inside the tropical rainforest not far from the sea and the volcano park. If you want to relax, enjoy nature (including bird and frog concert) and have a great good morning breakfast you are just right at Cindy and Ricks home. We enjoyed it very much. Sorry that it is so far away from Germany otherwise we would come again!

This is our first experience with a bed and breakfast, and for us it was the perfect fit. We had our own private room, bathroom, entrance. Cindy was very informative of the island and gave us a lot of information each day on what to see and where to go that most tourists don't know about. We had to use of maps, books, umbrellas, snorkel gear. It was great. I would highly recommend and would stay here again. Also, the breakfasts were fantastic. Cindy made sure we could experience different fruits each day that we would probably never try. We never left the morning hungry!

      A wonderful and relaxing stay

Left on 10/30/2010 for a stay in October 2010

Our stay at The Ohia House was simply amazing. We were deliciously surprised by graciousness and insight of our hosts, the sights and adventures of the Puna region, as well as the tropical delicacies we were honored with each morning at breakfast.

The room was very spacious, with a comfy bed and couch, and had an adjoining private screened-in lanai. My wife and I enjoyed relaxing on the lounge chairs on the lanai and ended up playing some of the card games we found in the room out on the table while being serenaded by the frogs. But, that wasn't the best use of the outside table, by far. That honor went to the magnificent spread that magically appeared for breakfast each day. The delicious local fruits and coffee were wonderful, but were eclipsed by the amazing Banana Macadamia Nut Dutch babies. If we are lucky enough to get Cindy's recipe, it will be our go to, "wow” breakfast for our own guests. Also, once Cindy found out my wife is a soy milk drinker, she had it ready for us the next day.

There was plenty to do in that area. The volcano is in striking distance, and a must see. With Rick's consult, we decided on a helicopter ride over the area; which was a highlight of our trip. An excursion to the "end of the road” to see the newly formed Kaimu Black Sand Beach and billowing steam cloud caused by the lava entering the ocean is well worth it. Spectacular!

We took a drive up the coast, which was beautiful, and spent some time snorkeling in the Kapoho Tidepools.

Mahalo to Cindy and Rick for making our time on the eastern coast more than we could have imagined. We will be recommending the Ohia House to all our friends and are counting the days until we are able to return.

      Perfect!

Ohia House was perfect! My Sweetheart and I decided to take a little retreat and found much more than we expected. It was incredibly relaxing - not just because of the wonderful location (a secluded jungle setting) or because the bed was about the best I've slept in - the comfort was directly related to the easy, friendly way everything was laid out and the obvious thought that had gone in to make sure guests feel at home and taken care of. There are many delightful places to sit, relax, talk or take a nap. Unlike many bed and breakfast spots where you feel you shouldn't "sit on the furniture" or touch anything of the proprietor will bill you extra - at the Ohia House we felt warmly welcome and graciously served. We'll be back - but next time longer!

      Fantastic Stay at Ohia House

Left on 09/24/2010 for a stay in September 2010

What a fantastic B&B.; I couldn't have been happier with my stay. From the minute you arrive on the property and are greeted by Cindy and Rick your relaxation begins. The room is well appointed, with nice features including the microwave and refrigerator and a desk. It is spacious and very clean. But my favorite place quickly became the private lanai. I was so happy lounging in the peace and lush surroundings that I almost didn't want to go out for excursions!

Cindy is an amazing cook and the breakfasts are amazing. You start each day with something new, different and delicious. A number of the fruits come from Cindy's garden or her green house. And she likes to feature local fruits and preserves that you may not see at home. I am in the food business, and I would love some of Cindy's recipes!

Although you are off the beaten path, there is still plenty do do in the area... the volcano, the hot ponds, zip lining, and the beach, with some nice local restaurants that are within easy reach.

I would happily recommend Ohia house to anyone. And I will be back!

Left on 07/30/2010 for a stay in July 2010

A newer “one bedroom” B&B, that feels more like a studio apt minus full kitchen. Very private, spacious, gorgeous yard, huge lanai, pool. Great breakfast. Perfect if not travelling with children. I recommend for tourists, people attending class/workshop in Hilo. LOCATION ideal for Volcano, entire E side Big Island: 5 min drive to park-walk ½ to 1 mi. to see active flowing lava. We got within 3 feet! Close to tidepools, best surf beach on island. I will never ever stay again closer to Volcano Park. Ohia House is what it is really like to live in Hawaii. I know because I grew up in Pahoa in the 60's. Can't wait to return.

Rick and Cindy were exceptional hosts for my stay while working in the Pahoa area. Before work each day, Cindy went out of her way to make sure I had a wonderful breakfast that would satisfy me for hours and at the end of the day I had plenty of peace and quiet in very clean accomodations with a lovely large screen porch-outdoor bonus room. For me, this was a perfect place to stay in close proximity to my work and a lovely drive past the lovely trees of Lava Tree State Park on my way to and from the house. I found the nights were cool enough to sleep with the windows closed to quiet the chirping of the koki frogs that some people may find a little loud if they aren't used to the sounds of the tropical evening. I would definitely stay there again if traveling for business or pleasure.

      Pampered in Paradise

Left on 04/13/2010 for a stay in March 2010

Yes...we felt totally pampered by Cindy and Rick at their secluded, cozy Bed and Breakfast. Who would not feel like royality having your scrumptious, homemade breakfast served on your own private, screened in lani every morning? And what a breakfast! We were there a week and every breakfast was different. In addition to fresh brewed Hawaiian coffee, we had tea, fresh squeezed juices, eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, smoked salmon, bagels/cream cheese, dutch babies and so much more! Fresh local fruit with each meal, jams, peanut butter, "real" half and half for our coffee!!! They even had a newspaper and music each morning! Who does this? We would return JUST for the breakfast.

We were close to Hilo in one direction and Volcano National Park in another direction. Also near the most Eastern part of the Big Island where we could explore local surfing sites and warm, natural ponds in which to relax. The small town of Pahoa was quaint and had several wonderful restaurants. We even golfed one day and had a massage the next. Now that's living! Rick and Cindy are experts on all things Hawaiian. The best surfing sites, scenic views, historical information and local eateries. They were happy to provide us with scuba gear, umbrellas, bug spray, and even their own personal maps/books on the local areas. It seemed like they magically appeared when we needed something and then disappeared so we could enjoy our own private little world!

Our bedroom was large enough to have a queen bed, couch, tv and very big closet. Our own microwave, small refrigerator and coffee pot!!! Iron, hair dryer...they had it all. Beautiful bathroom with plush linens. And, again, the private lani was over the top! Evening wine/beer/cocktails were always a priority after a day of exploring.

The swimming pool/deck was a wonderful place to relax. Reading, lounging and listening to the exotic birds was always the best way to unwind at the Ohia House BandB!!!

      Delightful Christmas memories

My wife and I spent a lovely couple of days at the Ohia House on the island of Hawaii. Rick and Cindy were gracious hosts providing us with a beautiful well apointed room with a spacious lanai. A wonderful breakfast was served by Cindy with ample food. Cindy was kind enough to give us great directions to some beaches and we had a very enjoyable time. We both enjoyed our stay with them and recommend Ohia house to all.

      Beautiful, Friendly and Convenient!

Left on 02/04/2010 for a stay in January 2010

I experienced a wonderful three night stay here and the only complaint I had have is that I couldn't stay longer. The room was spacious and immaculate with ample storage space and a very comfortable bed. The privacy was nice but if I had any questions I always had answers in Cindy, she was most helpful! The setting was gorgeous tucked away from the street amongst ohias and cleverly placed orchids. The pool was always warm and it was only minutes from the nice Pohoiki beach/ park, the tide pools and trip down the "red road". Breakfast was the meal I looked forward to most, fresh fruit, pastries and juice always greeted me on the bug-free, screened in porch. I will definitely stay here on my next visit to the Big Island- thank you Cindy and Rick for a terrific experience!

We were treated to the most lovely stay at the Ohia B&B. Our hosts, Cindy & Rick gave us plenty of privacy and also provided yummy food for the morning. With a pool on site and lots of nearby activities, we'll be sure to go there again!

      Fantastic location and amazing breakfast

Left on 01/30/2010 for a stay in October 2009

We stayed here around October 16. This location is amazing because the volcano national park is just 20 miles away, the lava viewing area and the tide pools were within 7 miles and Hilo is about 40 min. We came to this island for a short time and primarily for the volcano so location-wise this place was perfect for us. The breakfasts were sumptuous. Cindy is a darling and made for us, croissants, dutch baby (bakery delicacy haha) and also served really awesome variety of fruits.. She is an encyclopedia of big island, so we chatted with her every morning before heading off and she and her books (The big island revealed) were quite informative. Really if you are staying here, you wont need snorkeling gear or heavy duty flashlights or umbrellas... or a guidebook. She's got it all. The rooms were fine. No AC (trust me..one is not needed)..and no microwave (but that she will fix). Beautiful lanai. Soft music and exquisite collection of orchids, mellow aloha music, tall Ohia trees, chirping... more
