Shangri-La was movie producer Steven Spielberg’s first choice for his own residence when filming the last “Indiana Jones” movie on the Big Island in 2008.

Along the sunny shores of Kapoho Beach, Shangri-La's four enchanting Bali cottages rest on over half an acre of crystal clear, naturally heated bathing lagoons. The healing waters average 90 degrees year round and are perfect for swimming, snorkeling or therapeutic bathing. There's also thousands of tropical fish to entertain you.

Just outside the volcanic rock walls surrounding the estate, you can snorkel with Sea Turtles in one of the Pacific's richest and most protected wildlife preserves. Or, take a fifteen-minute drive to historic old Pahoa and sample some of the island's finest boutique shops and restaurants. This unique property provides an irreplaceable sanctuary to slow down and experience “Old Hawaii” island living at its very best.

Round House: A 600 square foot Bali-style structure for yoga, meditation, exercise, massage, meetings, entertaining or just relaxing in front of the TV. Also features a full-size fold out bed.

The Pavilion: A full amenities kitchen, two king size bedrooms and two baths. The larger bath is outdoor tropical style with a sunken jacuzzi tub, sauna and shower.

The Island Bedroom: Open to the tropical breezes, this unique Bali Hut features a queen size bed on it's own island beneath the stars.

  Incredibly unique rental. The property meanders around a ninety degree tidewater lagoon with beautiful tropical fish aplenty. The sunniest area on the easternmost part of hawaii, gentle rainfall at night and an occasional 5 minute shower makes this place so green and gorgeous. The sun shining on the water viewed from under the pond shows another world, just breathtaking. A five minute walk to Champagne ponds but the snorkeling at Shangri-La was all we needed. Everywhere you look there is beautiful tropical plants, flowers, palms, etc. Dining outside under the covered porch from coffee in the morning to dinner as you can only do in Hawaii is just so lovely. Charlie the koi takes the fish food from your hand and you can even pet him. The baby tilapia Give you a fish pedicure if you sit quietly with your feet in the water. You are encouraged to catch the Tilapia and filet your own dinner if you are so inclined. Gorgeous outdoor shower, sauna, swing by the guest house for private space to read, hammock on an island, it's just fantastic all around. They have all the gear you need for snorkeling, well supplied kitchen, too. It is just an amazing place.
