Iolana refers to Io, the endangered Hawaiian hawk that soars over the forests of this remote region of the Hawaii Islands. This reclusive raptor is often seen on the trees surrounding the custom build Polynesian style home. We are grateful of Jeff and Roger's hospitality and kindness. Everything in the house makes you feel at home. We enjoyed very much relaxing on the huge terrace, just admiring the beauties of the garden, the ocean view, listening to the birds and the waves during the day and the frogs at night. The house is very well equiped and is wonderfully decorated. A special thank to Roger who took us to see the lava flowing and dripping into the ocean. A lifetime experience!! It is an ideal location for those who want to escape the crowds of tourists and see a more tradtional side of Hawaii. The famous Kehena beach is within walking distance, wonderful farmers markets are 5 minutes away. Jeff and Roger thrive to make their guests feel comfortable. Some snorkeling equipement was available for our enjoyement. I highly recommend Iolana house.

We were looking for peace and relaxation... a chance to recharge from a hectic military lifestyle. Although it sounds like a bit of a drive from Hilo; it is well worth it. The property is located in a small coastal community, that implied isolation - but by no means is. It is just a few short miles from restaurants, markets, etc.; offering conditions of a home away from home. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous! Local trees, flowers and shrubs provide seclusion from neighbors while providing a hypnotically tranquil setting we did not wish to leave. The home itself is decorated in what might be called "local eclectic" and shows that it is very clean, well maintained and cared for. Our host, Jeff, was very helpful even prior to our arrival; sending info on local restaurants and things to do. He even offered use of personal equipment such as kayak, snorkeling equipment, etc. as well as letting us know about interesting happenings in the community! During our stay, Jeff discreetly continued to insure our stay was comfortable, entertaining and rejuvenating. Its really hard to leave this picturesque, paradise like gem.
