Reykjavík, IcelandUnbelievable place
Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We are an elderly couple who rented this penthouse apartment in march and april 2013. We were looking for an apartment in this neighborhood which we know from previous stays in Palermo.
You have to climb up 85 steps to get there, but it is worth it, believe me! The view is just as the photos show.
The apartment has everything you need. Francesca, the owner, is extremely friendly and efficient. The bathroom is very small, but you get used to it.
The terrace and the panorama is what we like best about the apartment, apart from the location which we love. -

We fortunately stayed in this wonderful apartment for 8 days in october. Of course we had to climb to get that panoramic view. The bathroom is very minimalistic, but after o couple of days you learn to bend your head. We had norwegian friends staying at the second floor, and were happy to visit us at the terrace. The nearby pizzabakery makes the very best pizzas to take away, and we twice had pizzaparty together at our terrace . We love the old town in Palermo, and enjoyed our first stay in the lively heart of Kalsa. Franscesca is the find of hostess w hope to meet again.

Comfortable and spacious apartment with separate kitchen and bedroom. The terrace is enormous with table and 4 chairs , 2 sun loungers and 2 armchairs and a coffee table. And there's still room to stroll around and take in the magnificent views of the mountains and sea, the square and garden with the never ending card games played by the locals, the architecture, the street scene...The location is lively and convenient for most places in the old town including good places to eat and drink.
Francesca provided really useful information and couldn't have been more helpful when alitalia lost my case. She even drove us to the station.Highly recommended .

I have to say, I would like to go to this place again. The location, view and the terrace is wonderful. The owner is absolutely lovely and very helpful and kind. Facilities and kitchen is very good as well. What I didnt like was the sleeping quality. The matrace and beds are not so good, but the rest is great. Thank you Francesca!

Great hosts, brilliant apartment & view. Lotsa stairs but worth the climb, and La Kalsa is a super area. Everything you'll need within a hundred yards of door, bakery, pizza takeway, fish restaurants, fruit & veg, cafes, churches and plenty of real life as opposed to 5 star illusions.

Left on 05/09/2012 for a stay in April 2012
Our hosts, Francesca and Giovanni, were most helpful and charming. The apartment was well equipped and thoughtfully supplied with food and wine to greet us.
The location in the historic centre of Palerma (in the old arab quarter) was lively and bustling. An exciting venue filled with local colour, voices and beautiful church bells. Weather was fantastic.
We particularly liked the large roof top terrace that looked across the historic section and the harbour. A truly awe-inspiring view that we never got weary of and well worth the climb to the top. -

The view is stunning, the apartment was spotless, there were lots of special 'extras' (coffee, tea, yoghurt, milk, even a bottle of wine for us to make us feel at home), but it was the warm and generous hosts who made Dreaming Palermo one of of the best apartments we have rented anywhere in the world (from the USa, to France, Italy, Spain, Turkey). The apartment is in the heart of an historic area, and perhaps not for everyone, but we loved it. ps Don't take too much luggage as the five flights of stairs are hard work, but the view is worth it!

Juba, South SudanThe Joy of Living in the Dreaming Palermo Penthouse
Left on 02/29/2012 for a stay in February 2012
This description could not be more true. We live in Sudan and were dreaming of a winter getaway and our penthouse in Palermo definitely answered that desire. Francesca was extremely helpful with direction, we chose to drive from the airport, and waited 90 minutes for us due to a diverted flight. We arrived in our apartment to a killer view, bottle of wine, a refrigerator stocked with food essentials/fruit, a phone for our use and great instructions for everything in the area. We had an awesome time and cannot say enough good about Giovanni and Francesca. What amazing hosts! If you are visiting Italy add a couple of extra days and fly down to Palermo and enjoy the charms of this amazing apartment and hosting couple. You will not be disappointed.

Left on 01/08/2012 for a stay in December 2011
We had an amazing 5 night stay in the apartment. Greeted on arrival by Francesca and Giovanna who supplied us with a wealth of local knowledge and a very warm welcome. The apartment itself was very well located and overlooking a square with views to the harbour. It was a perfect place to relax after a day wandering the streets, and cook dinner using the fully equipped kitchen. We also enjoyed relaxing on the very large roof terrace with the morning sun behind. It was only a 15min walk from the train/bus station and is well serviced by grocery and other small food shops, including delicious arancini!!

LondonTremendous views, great private terrace, quiet but central locat
Left on 10/16/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We stayed at this apartment in late august for a week, the hosts Francesca and Giovanni were extremely helpful with providing a guide to the hotspots of Palermo and also gave up their own time to help us get acquainted with the local atmosphere!! They were both absolutely charming - very kind and generous above and beyond what we would ever have expected.
The apartment itself is top floor and has a narrow stair case to maneuver but the terrace is worth it alone. It's not overlooked by anyone and has stunning views of the kalsa square and the sea and mountains beyond.
It's worth mentioning that the square has free parking if you can find a space and the apartment is 15-20 mins walk to all the major car rental companies. You can see many other great parts of Sicily just an hour or two drive away.
In a nutshell this apartment is ideal for a quiet/lazy holiday but equally brilliant for being in the middle of such a lively city - we will definitely be going back to Palermo and will be sure to stay in this apartment again. -

KentA Perfect Holiday In Palermo
Left on 09/17/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We have just recently returned from spending a wonderful week at Francesca and Giovanni's apartment in Palermo, Sicily. They were the perfect hosts even taking us out one evening to show us sights we would not have experienced by ourselves. It was extremely hard however, tearing ourselves away from the sun-drenched terrace overlooking the city. Palermo is steeped in history with plenty to see and do.You do not need to take a guide book. The apartment is well stocked with info and maps.A cold bottle of white wine was most welcome on arrival too. A week simply is not long enough and how I wished we could have stayed longer. Would we return? You bet.

Left on 09/16/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We just arrived home yesterday from a wonderful stay of 8 nights in this flat. The welcome was amazing. Francesca met us at the central bus station - there is a direct coach from the airport -and drove us the short distance to the flat. Having lived in the UK for a while her English is excellent and so she can give you all the information you need to make the best of this city. There was lots more information at the flat and she had even cross referenced a map for us with a list of restaurants, cafes, night spots and sights.
The flat is lovely as you can see from the photos others have left. Spacious and light, but with air conditioning to keep it cool on even the hottest day. The terrace was what had attracted us to the flat and it didn't disappoint. It was a huge space with deck chairs, a sun lounger and a table and four chairs- perfect to relax and sunbathe or eat your meals. There was even a bbq.
We cooked most of our meals and the kitchen facilities were excellent. A full size fridge, for gas rings and lots of saucepans, utensils etc. Francesca had even left us some goodies in the fridge such as milk, yoghurts, juice and water (and a lovely bottle of wine). Cooking basics were also there such as washing up liquid, salt and paper and all the other bits and pieces that you can end up buying and only use a tiny bit of.
The flat is incredibly well located and we were able to walk anywhere we needed to. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby and even people pulling fish straight out of nets which you can buy and cook or eat at the local restaurants. Freshly baked bread is a available from a bakery opposite and there is a supermarket a short walk away.
On Friday night we even went out with Francesca and her husband Giovanni and they showed us some of the more difficult to find places and introduced us to the local street food. They are a charming couple and we had a wonderful time. We really felt we had found the heart of Palermo.
Thank you again for a wonderful stay. I would not hesitate to recommend this property for a short or long break as it exceeded all our expectations and every little detail was looked after. -

Dreaming Palermo is a charming apartment overlooking the harbour of Palermo. It makes you feel at home the moment you step in. Francesca - the owner - clearly takes care of guests staying at this place. Special touches such as chocolates on your pillow, a stocked fridge, maps etc. enhance the experience. Even more, one day Francesca suprised us with a bottle of her favourite Sicilian red wine. - Delicious. What a beautiful person she is!

Great part of town, well away from the usual tourist hubub. Francesca and her husband met us at the door, helped us with our bags (there are a few stairs involved) and led us onto and into this wonderful and simple penthouse apartment overlooking a park and the harbour. Very helpful and friendly. The place was clean and Francesca had very thoughtfully left a small hamper of various foodstuffs - always comes in handy when one is traveling and staying only briefly in numerous locations. The local street restaurants were a real treat too.
All in all - a bargain! -

London, United KingdomPerfect stay in the heart of Palermo
Left on 07/24/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Just back from a wonderful week in Palermo, staying in this apartment. Francesca and Giovanni are delightful hosts - generous and enthusiastic. Francesca organised a car to take us from the airport to the apartment tment and she and Giovanni were there to meet us when we arrived. They really want you to have a fantastic time in their city, and we did. Their apartment with its huge terrace overlooking Piazza La Kalsa is the perfect base from which to explore Palermo, a fascinating, enchanting city. In this apartment, you are right in the midst of the city, with all its sounds and smells and sights, with easy access on foot to the incredible monuments, churches, galleries, markets, restaurants and bars. Easy too, to take day trips out of the city by public transport. Then, back to the apartment, make some dinner, open a bottle of wine and eat out on the terrace, taking in the views of Palermo life going on below, as the sun goes down.

This apartment is located right in the middle of the old centre of Palermo. You can walk at the boulevard and have some ice, have drinks near the harbour and eat fresh fish at the street restaurants. In the evening there were often live concerts at the square at which you look from the huge terrace.
Francesca made our stay perfect. She made us a map with her favorite restaurants, bars, lunchrooms, supermarkets. Thanks to that we had the best diners at the best restaurants. Everything is on walking distance.
Francesca is a wonderful sweet lady who is actually a medicine student, but who prefers to work with tourist! We loved her and her partner and will be returning back, because of beautiful Sicily but even more; to meet them again! -

We couldn't have been happier with our apartment: spacious, clean and lovely with a magnificent view of the Piazza Kalsa and even in sight of the harbor. Francesca di Carlo, the owner, graciously met us on our arrival and provided maps with places to eat, shop and see indicated. The area has the coolest book store/wine bar imaginable and lots of outdoor restaurants that are reasonable and fun. Very highly recommended.

Left on 05/16/2011 for a stay in April 2011
My son (27) and I stayed here for six nights to catch up and have some time together, since we no longer live in the same city. The apartment has a great view looking over one of the most interesting piazzas in Kalsa, the old arab quarter of Palermo, with the harbor and Monte Pellegrino framing the picturesque view. Everything you need for your stay is there including a spacious kitchen and living room and huge terrace. There is a double bedroom and one of the sofas was turned into a second double bed. Sheets, towels, etc., were all provided. The apartment is located very near all the main sights of the wonderful old town: churches (e.g. Santa Caterina, Martorana), oratories (San Lorenzo, Santa Cita - they're a must), and the lovely Sicilian regional gallery (Palazzo abatellis). It is also near very lively bars and restaurants (in Kalsa itself - Cana, Mi Manda Picone, Martins - and on Piazza Marina - Kue - and Palermo's best classic restaurant, San andrea) and the markets, Vuciria and Ballaro. You can also easily go to Monreale Cathedral by bus and you must visit the Capella Reale in the Norman Palace. We rented a car for two days and drove out to Cefalu and the Madonie mountains on one day and to Segesta and Erice on the other. Very easy to do if you can keep your cool in Palermo's hectic traffic. We went out on Saturday night to contemporary art events and to a live music venue, and had a great time. Palermo is one of the most vibrant places I've ever been. Francesca, the owner, is a great host who is willing to 'go the extra mile' to ensure your trip goes smoothly. She arranges transfers to the apartment and, because my son arrived earlier on bus in a strange town, picked him up from the main train station. Thanks Francesca, we hope to see you again soon! Both of us had a fantastic time full of great memories.
