BrightonBeautiful Rental away from the Busy Hotels
Left on 04/07/2013 for a stay in March 2013
My husband and I recently returned from a trip to aruba with our 3 young children. We usually stay in the low rise area, but wanted something that was away from the crowd. Ocean 105 was the perfect place for us, not only did we have a beautiful ocean view from the Raymond apartment we stayed in, we were also right next to two beautiful beaches. Our apartment was nice and clean and the perfect size for our family of 5. Everyone was friendly and accomodating, if you have a question or need anything they are happy to help. We adored Gina and my 2 year old still pretends he is talking to her on the phone. Another nice feature of this rental is that Tuesday evenings the owner has all of the renters come and use the gazebo of his private residence. It has a beautiful view and him and his family are wonderful people. We loved this rental and will for sure be returning on our next trip to aruba.

Left on 03/28/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We Found this apartment exactly as advertised. Clean, beautiful furnishings. Has wi-fi and a cleaning lady at your disposal. It has a small patio but it doesn't have an ocean view. Only the upstairs apartments do. But that was no problem for us as you can walk out the door to the beach any time you want, Malmok beach is the best snorkeling beach on the island. We tried others and they didn't compare. All the fancy resorts bring boat trips here to snorkel. My kids and husband love to snorkel and they would just go right out from the shore and see 40 different kinds of fish, Lots of fun! You need to know that you will need a car to stay here as it is about 10 minutes from town, restaurants etc. Also, there is a wonderful little kitchen so you can do some of your meals there. They even have a grill. The staff here were extremely helpful, knowledgable and available when you needed them but gave us our privacy. This is a great place to stay in aruba and the price is fabulous too!

pros:
Ocean 105 is located close to Malmok beach, which is great for snorkeling. We stayed in one of the upstairs apartments (2 bedrooms + 2 bathrooms) which had a beautiful view on the ocean. The water pressure in the showers is great. The apartment was clean when we entered. Lots of towels.
cons:
We didn't have internet for most of our stay. We called and were promised that the internet would be fixed by the end of the day, but nothing happened. In the end, we didn't have internet for 4 out of 6 days! Normally, this wouldn't be that big of an issue, but with family members in the hospital we really wanted to be able to talk to them on a regular basis.
There was a funky smell in the interior garden (skunk-like).
We always stay in apartments during our holidays and usually people leave some items for future guests (e.g. salt, coffee filters, handsoap) but there was nothing left in this apartment. We bought these items and left them - let's hope they remain there for the next renters.
We gave a poor rating mainly because of the internet issue. With working wifi, we would have given this place a 3+1/2 star rating -

We visited the island for a reunion of old friends. We had a great time and the apartment was clean and comfortable. The price was good and the people very helpful. You definitely need a car for this location as it is near the lighthouse ie not very near to palmbeach. As long as you know this it is fine. The view over the sea from the 2nd floor is great. On the 1st floor there is no view. On the other hand if you are out and about all day this is great (ie value for money) place to crash. The apt has a cooperation with Moomba beach club which is a great place to hang out ! Wrap-up: you need a car but if you have that covered this is a great of value place to stay.

We loved being outside the high-rise resort zone in the quiet, lovely north end of the island, and the snorkeling off Malmok and the other very nearby beaches was outstanding. The rental team was friendly and helpful and the accommodations in the Raymond suite were great--spacious, clean, cool (AC in each bedroom and the living room), and comfortable (great beds!). The cleaner came once during the week we stayed and changed all the linens and swept up the sand. The only issues we had were: in the website photos, the Raymond unit appears to open onto the beach. However, Ocean105's owners built only their own unit facing and opening onto the beach; the rental units are behind it and either look out over the owner's broad roof toward the sea or into a pretty, small courtyard. It's a nice, but obstructed, view. You have to walk out behind the building and around it and over to Malmok beach. The second issue was that there was no soap in the showers or dish soap/scrubbers supplied--we had to purchase those on our own. I've stayed in many other self-catering facilities and those items usually are supplied. Other than that, if we came back to aruba, we'd definitely stay there again!

Another couple, my husband and I had never been to aruba. We didn't want to stay in the busy highrise or lowrise areas (Palm Beach, Eagle Beach), but preferred a quiet location on the water with good snorkeling. We wanted a safe, clean apartment with 2 bedrooms/2 bath and a full kitchen to prepare meals. We found the perfect spot at Ocean 105. We rented a car to travel around the island to explore and snorkel. We all agreed the best snorkeling was right there at Ocean 105 - a 3 minute walk from our apartment to the sea. Gina, the housekeeper, was especially friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Lauren apartment which had the garden view. Next time, I would reserve an apartment with an ocean view. We used the owner's private deck which overlooks the sea and his grill with his permission. It would be nice if there were a deck & grill overlooking the sea specifically for tenants.

We enjoyed our stay at Ocean 105 - Benji apartment because it was next to our favorite beach. However, there were some things that we hope will improve. There was an odd smell in the apartment when we first went in, probably from being closed up. The TV in the living room did not have good reception and the remote control did not work. The beach chairs were hard plastic chairs with short legs. It would be nice if they had nice folding beach chairs that are easier to carry to the beach or put in a car trunk. A previous apartment complex we stayed in had the daily local newspaper delivered but not at Ocean 105. We did miss having a pool.

Ocean 105 is a great option for people who want the comforts and privacy of a home in beautiful, friendly aruba. With a fully equipped kitchen, it is great for those who prefer not to eat out at every meal. Cleaning service is provided twice a week. The accommodations are clean, bright, and friendly. It is located next to malmok, a quiet, secluded beach with great snorkeling. Arashi beach is nearby as well.
For a family, or split between couples the larger apartments offer great value. Be sure and try to book one of the ocean view rooms upstairs for great evening sunset watching. -

Of all the beaches we visited - and we visited most of them - we loved Boca Catalina the most. And all the locals we spoke to said the same. Avoid the crowds, while enjoying the sun and surf at Boca Catalina. This beach is right - and I mean right - next to you when you stay at Ocean 105. We spent so much time there - at any time.
And this is only one aspect of our amazing stay at Ocean 105. -

We have stayed on the second floor of Ocean 105 three years in a row so far. The accomodations are very convenient for a family with two kids and are kept in the excellent condition. The nearest beach is the best kept secret (and should stay this way) as it is the best beach on the northern part of the island. I will highly recommend staying at Ocean 105.

If you are looking for a nice place to stay, away from all the crowds, this is it. Great neighborhood, nice and convenient beach access. We stayed 7 nights in the Raymond apartment which has awesome ocean and sunset views. We loved the convenience of the location to the Malmok beach (30 second walk) which had good snorkeling and a small sandy spot for the kids to build sand castles and search for shells. There was good shade at this small beach too with lots of small palm huts and a nice set of trees to park yourself under. The apartment was well equipped, but it would have been nice to know there were snorkels and masks available before hand so we didn't lug ours with us. Some of the Tv's were non-functioning, but this is not a big deal since you shouldn't be in aruba to watch TV (that said, we had a sick child with us and he needed some quiet time in front of the tube for a few days). One of the aC units was out of refrigerant, but that will be easily fixed by the staff. The only other minor downside about the Raymond apartment is that you have traffic across the balcony to the other apartment on that level (Rachel's apt) and the bedrooms abut the street so you have a little bit of light and street noise coming in...that said, it is a very quiet area at night. Overall it was a great spot and a very nice place and we will definitely book it again if going to aruba.
One last comment: This was a business/holiday trip for me, so the need for wifi in the evenings was very important. The free wifi was excellent and I never had a problem with it. -

My adult daughter and I spent three nights at Ocean 105. It is a private home waterfront and adjacent to an incredible snorkeling beach area called Catalina Bay. The two rooms upstairs have sunset balcony views. We stayed in the fully equipped Raymond room. You are in an upscale residential neighborhood just a short drive to either totally secluded beaches or all the beach water activities and shopping.
The beach is a combination of sand and moonrock with coral reefs, probably best for adults verses the bath like entries at the beaches near the main large deluxe hotels. The housekeeper was very helpful. The owner is very graciuos and welcoming. The reidents I saw were long term and lovely people. They have towels, snorkel masks to borrow, pretty much all you need. Really a terrific choice.Response from Aruba Happy Rentals - 02/22/2012

My husband & I stayed 14 days at Ocean 105 in Rachel. I made the reservation in april and Gemma worked with me on a price that we could afford. It was worth every penny!
The room was clean & comfortable & a view to die for.
The beach was literaly a 2 minute walk.
Gina was always available if anything was needed. On the days she would clean the apt. she would leave the basket of clean linens on the table outside and I would just yell to her when we were leaving. Gina was very rarely seen but we knew she was there if we needed her. Gina even offered to put the laundry on the dryer for me so we could go out. She is a doll & Ocean 105 is fortunate to have have her!
We have stayed at a large hotel chain in past years when we woud visit aruba but staying at Ocean 105 has changed our mind completely. Our 1st choice for all future visits will be Ocean 105.
The only thing I would look for is a better beach chair but the chairs they had for us to use worked fine.
Ocean 105 is not good for anyone in a wheelchair -

Left on 09/25/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We stayed at Ocean 105 for two weeks from Sept 9th to the 23rd and really appreciated our stay and dealings with aruba Happy Rentals. Right from the start when we booked the apartment, Gemma was very helpful in providing informations and arranged for a car rental. If you go to the website for Ocean 105, there is a very thorough description of the apartments and the pictures are truthful to the real views you get. We stayed in Rachel’s apartment that had two rooms, one with a view of the ocean. Rosie was there upon arrival at the apartment and briefed us about the apartment and all other important things we needs to know, very nice. The apartment was sparky clean and was well furnished with a full equipped kitchen and reliable wireless internet. Air conditioning is available in all the rooms , beds are very comfortable, although a bit noisy...just as a safety box was available to accommodate all of our important stuff plus 2 laptops. Beach towels are provided as well as beach chairs, coolbox and snorkelling equipment. The main purpose of our vacation was to snorkel everyday and that’s is just what we did, thanks to Ocean 105. This 4 apartment complex is very well located between Malmok and Boca Catalina beaches and we only walked about 100 meters to wonderful snorkelling. We really appreciated the soft water tub provided to rinse our gear after each snorkel excursion. Gina was there to clean the apartments and rooms/beds on a 2 times a week basis . The house in front of the apartment was occupied by a family but were very discreet and respected our privacy.
We recommend these apartments for anyone interested in relaxing accommodation with quick and near access to nice snorkelling and beaches. -

Just returned from a wonderful stay at Raymond's apartment in Ocean 105. A few days before our arrival at Ocean 105, we received very detailed directions from the airport, including landmarks along the way. Alex was awaiting our arrival and gave us a tour of the property and kindly assisted with luggage. The apartment was exceptionally clean and very well-appointed... even including salt/pepper, dish soap, beach towels, and plenty of bathroom products. Snorkeling gear, sand chairs, and upright chairs for the beach were available to take to the beach, even if we didn't go to the Boca Catalina (the snorkel beach about 50 yards from the back gate). In fact, we joked that when we moved to our timeshare week at the Marriott Surf Club that we were much closer to the beach when we were at Ocean 105, and we were always guaranteed a beach chair! We liked Boca and arashi (a short 5 min drive between Ocean 105 and the lighthouse) so much that we returned several times later in our holiday. For groceries, we visited both Ling's IGa and Superfood, but found it much easier to shop at the IGa as the brands were more recognizable with much more selection. Bakeries and meat counter at both were fabulous! We found grocery pricing very similar to those in the us, but we were happy that we brought our extra spices and the "regular" list of items we always pack for condo vacations. One more thing for next time... we should have bought our liquor at the duty-free next to the baggage claim as it was a good deal!

Recently our family of 5, which includes 3 college aged children, vacationed in aruba. If you like to avoid the typical hotel fare offered at most destinations, this place is for you. The location was perfect for us and the activities we were interested in. We were less than a 10 minute drive to horseback riding, the lighthouse, landsailing, windsurfing, and restaurants & shopping, and a 2 minute walk to one of the most popular snorkeling beaches in the area. We felt very comfortable and safe at the apartment and everywhere we went in aruba. Our apartment had 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths as well as a kitchen and living room, so we had plenty of room. We shared a balcony, that afforded a beautiful sunset view, with 1 other apartment which was unoccupied during our stay. There is not a pool, but no-one in our party thought that was a problem. We all enjoyed swimming in the Caribbean and that amenity was not missed. Beach chairs as well as beach towels and a cooler were also available, which was a nice touch. We had a great time on the island and were satisfied with the accomodations.

The management company, Happy Rentals, is wonderful. The pre-trip negotiation from the us was very smooth. They responded right away, showing willingness to work with us to overcome any obstacles. Instructions were very clear and precise. They e-mailed us a few days before we left the us, and even arranged a very affordable car rental service (25$ a day) for us.
The property itself: the one-bedroom unit downstairs was disappointing. It is right on the ground floor, and it is only a few feet away from a busy street. If you keep the blinds open, everybody can see you from the street, and the view is ugly. It can get noisy at night, too. The other windows face the internal courtyard, and they are covered by lush green trees. That can be nice, but not much light comes in. With these caveats, the place is spotlessly clean and functional. I wouldn't quite call it luxury, since it is very plain and the fixtures are dated, but it is very nice.
The upstairs 2-bedrooms are much nicer. I would really recommend splurging for them, because it makes a huge difference to be able to see the crystal clear turquoise water from the apartment.
The best one is Rachel - you have views from the bedroom, as well. Raymond is very beautiful, too. The balcony is ideal for sunset dinners or drinks.
However, please note that the pictures on their website can be a bit misleading - the people having drinks in their terrace by the water must be in the private residence on the ground floor. From the upstairs balcony, your view is lovely, but not unobstructed - you will have a white roof from the main private residence in the foreground - it's not ugly, but not beautiful, either.
The location could not be better. You are literally on the most beautiful beach on the island and best snorkeling spots. Mere steps from the free palapas and the amazing ocean. The beach is never very crowded.
Note that they don't provide any of the essentials such as soaps, shampoos, dish soap.

My first trip to aruba will be that indeed, a first. Of many.
Ocean 105 was perfect for us, the service was impeccable, the rooms were spacious, clean well appointed and suited very nicely for a traveler. the Kitchen came with everything we needed for appliances, dishes, etc, etc. The location of the building was right at Malmok beach, one of the premier snorkeling and beach spots on the island. There was nothing at all that we didn't like about our stay on the island or our stay at Ocean 105. It was a bit of a magical week, and staying where we did made everything flow very nicely. Hotels are not the way to experience aruba, private residences are. Ocean 105 is a prime example of the best way to stay when on vacation.
