St. Paul, MNLuxury prices, but not luxury standards.
Left on 01/20/2012 for a stay in January 2012
I will start by saying the location of this home is great for proximity to downtown and all things Palm Springs. You are steps from dining at the Viceroy or Melvyn's and just a couple blocks to downtown and yet in a quiet neighborhood. The photos are beautiful and the view up to San Jacinto is lovely, and yes - this is a lovely looking property - but for the price it should be perfect. Here is why it is not: Upon arrival nearly every room had a lightbulb missing, including some outdoor lighting and a key bathroom mirror specialty light. The master bedroom ceiling fan was broken which was frustrating. There is carpet in all of the bedrooms, and the master bedroom in particular looked like someone had an ill dog or like someone had been sick - stains by the side of the bed, and dingy spots throughout the room. When we asked what had happened, we were asked if we wanted carpet cleaning people to come in and fix it. This should have been done before we arrived, not during our stay - and it would have inconvenienced our comings and goings and been a hassle. The pool was frustrating. You could only have heat working in the pool or the whirlpool but not both at the same time and the pool man figured out one of the furnaces wasn't functioning. Lost several days of great sunny weather. There are two nice master bedrooms with kings, but the 3rd bedroom is more of a converted garage with a side door and no windows, and the 4th bedroom is two twin beds. Three of the four have their own bath w/shower which is nice. The flat screen in the living room and the master bedroom tv are both large, but in a word, they are confusing. Turning them on, getting volume to work, finding the source for volume on a speaker in a hall closet...these are not things you want to have to call a property manager to figure out when it's evening and you're ready for some viewing. There were 5 or 6 remotes in the living room alone. The master bedroom is spacious, beautiful and airy with a large closet and great shower. Large doors open to the pool area - but after a few nights, we discovered that though the door handles closed and locked, the bolt at the bottom of the door was jammed open and never was secure during many nights of sleeping and assuming it was locked. The big wooden doors are beautiful, but the wood is rotting and and chipping and in some places does not seal at all. When you get past the pretty photos, and start to really look - there is just an overall sense of neglect. The tiki huts are dated, there is junk left in piles in the backyard gated areas, things that would not take that much effort to pick up and throw out and clean up. There is a lovely old world look to the house, and it is different from the streamlined, mid-century modern look so common in Palm Springs - but the owners need to be more aware of the competition. For the price, you can find other properties that are cleaner and much better maintained. Again, the photos are lovely and this is a comfortable home - but for luxury prices, and a luxury villa - they need to get it right for guests.
