I am almost hesitant to recommend this place on tripadvisor - for the one and only reason it should stay a well kept secret (and I can easily book it again next time I am in town). There is not a single thing we did not like about this beautifully appointed, very clean, modern and cozy place. You do have to climb a few stairs to get to it, yes, but believe me, it is well worth it! The location couldn't be better - and the same goes for the hosts. Thank you both so much for everything, Patty and Rudy! Your hospitality was much appreciated, as well as all the tips, the help and advice. And to have a computer with internet provided, was a great bonus. Next time we will be in Panama City, we will be back at the studio!

      Truly lovely

Left on 08/07/2012 for a stay in July 2012

This studio condo was truly lovely. My husband and I stayed for 4 nights and did not want to leave. The attention to detail was exquisite and the studio was absolutely beautiful. The kitchen had everything one would need and more and the lovely studio itself was very spacious. The location of the studio could not have been better either, right in the heart of Old Town. We loved it and hope to return soon.

This wonderful studio ticked all my boxes. I could go on forever about how much my husband and I enjoyed staying in this perfect studio and Casco Viejo in general. You can't wish for better hosts than Patty and Rudy and we look forward to staying with them again when we return to Panama once the new Miraflores locks have been completed.

Patti and Rudy were great! The room was tastefully decorated and comfortable. The location was perfect for exploring Casco. Can't wait to go back. Rudy was a wonderful tour guide as well. Would recomend the two bedroom unit for two couples or family traveling together.

      Perfect Hideaway in Casco Viejo

Left on 03/22/2012 for a stay in March 2012

We left Casco Viejo until the last 5 days of our holiday in Panama. Are we glad we did! Patty's studio was the perfect place to end our time here. It is central to everything, safe, clean, beautifully decorated, and Patty was there to meet us and to say goodbye. She is incredibly prompt at responses and providing information, and between Patty and Rudy, they have most of the N.American and European languages covered.

The suite has a comfortable king bed with lovely soft sheets, full bathroom with fluffy white towels and even a starter kit of amenities. Kitchen is compact but fully loaded with full size appliances, including the coffee grinder for those lovely beans available from the Chiriqui region. (Ruiz was our favourite) All the dishes, cultery, glasses, pots/pans etc are there for you. Laundry is located on main floor at no cost, and a a phone and laptop are available for your use in the suite. All you need is your bag, sunscreen, and a map.

We would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants a comfortable, cool, and cozy space to stay for a few days while in Panama City of Casco Viejo. I am sure their other properties are just as wonderful and special. There are stairs up to the suite, so keep that in mind if you have difficulty navigating steps.

Do take a tour with Rudy as well while you are here. Small group with lots of special attention to local information.

Thanks again Patty and Rudy. It was a very special finish to our trip.

We finished our stay in Panama City by staying 3 nights in Patty's studio in Casco Viejo. At the beginning of our vacation, we stayed in the ! bedroom loft in the same building and in between we left the city for a stay at the beach. We were just as pleased with the Studio as we were with the 1 bedroom loft. Patty thinks of everything that you might need to make your stay very enjoyable. We highly recommend either unit and we also enthusiastically recommend Rudy's tours.

Save yourself time and anxiety by staying with Patty and Rudy

Left on 01/15/2012 for a stay in December 2011

If this is your first trip to Panama, and you don't speak fluent Spanish, then I highly recommend you call Patty for the following reasons; Patty is very responsive and caring in her correspondence, she knows what you'll need once you arrive, and she has a warm, friendly demeanor. And once in Panama, the more time you can spend with her Panamanian husband Rudy, the more interesting your visit will be. We had Rudy pick us up at the airport and give us a half day tour around Panama City to get acclimated. Once we settled into their condo in Casco Viejo, everything we needed - besides food - was provided. The condo was furnished with the quality and touches of a fine European hotel. Save yourself a lot of frustration and use their cell phone for calling in and out of the country and/or get your own for $20 (trying to use your own smart phone or Blackberry in Panama will be very aggravating and extremely expensive.) We visited the Embera Indians with Rudy and I highly recommend this day trip. Having friendly, intelligent, gentle people like Patty and Rudy as part of your first introduction to Panama will definitely benefit you as you start to explore this fascinating city where the extremes of poverty are neighbors with first class high rises and the explosive international business community.

The way to stay and see Panama City

Left on 01/12/2012 for a stay in July 2010

It's embarrassing how long it has taken me to write this, especially since the stay was so lovely. The studio is perfectly located in Casco Viejo. Fantastic restaurants and sites are all within walking distance. If you want more low-key, there are also grocery stores and gourmet shops in the area and the loft has a fully stocked kitchen where you may cook your own meals. The studio is beautifully decorated, well furnished, and safe.

We also had Rudy as a tour guide. We were only in Panama City for a couple of days, yet he managed to help us see many of the fascinating aspects of this fantastic destination. He is a walking encyclopedia of information about the city and its history. His very reasonably priced tours were above and beyond our expectations.

Patty and Rudy are great hosts and this is a great place to stay. Staying and touring with anyone else would be a mistake.

We stayed in two different places owned by Patty and Rudy, who are so friendly, and so efficient to make everything so that you feel at ease . You can go in either property they have, "les yeux fermés". Everything is so perfect, it's just the place you feel at home, whereas you're so far away from your home ! We discovered Panama City in excellent conditions, thanks to the good advices and great explanations they gave us on the country. We loved the colonial Casco Viejo, a so charming and pleasant neighbourhood, and we really want to come back there ! Thank you for the mobile phone, for the good breakfast, for the drivings, for the comfort of the bed and the luxury of the studio...a great taste of the panamean way of life we like...

Do not try to manage the hotels in Panama City, there is such a wide range of quality that isn't always apparent upfront. This apartment was the best accommodations we had of the three different place we stayed in our one week stay.

The apartment has everything you need and more. It is beautifully decorated and maintained. The kitchen is thoughtfully stocked with knives, potholders. spices, martini glasses etc. We would stay there again in a heart beat. The area also is central with restaurants and taxis close by.

My wife and I stayed in Patty's studio condo (she also has a 2-bedroom loft in the same building).

      Our stay was simply excellent!

The condo is large, beautifully decorated with custom-made furniture, and included everything from laundry soap to a free local cellphone to a list of the best local restaurants. Patty and Rudy (the owners) were welcoming and helpful, and the location (in Casco Viejo) was ideal. We would recommend it without hesitation.

Price was also excellent - when we stayed, studio condo was $110/night with a discount for 7+ nights. Based on my research, similar hotels were $170-250+ at that time.

Some tips - best local restaurants (all within easy walking distance) were Cafe Rene (lunch) and the tasting menu at Manolo Caracol (dinner).

      A Real Gem

Left on 03/29/2011 for a stay in February 2011

If you want to get an authentic feel for Panama City, stay in Patty and Rudy's Casco Viejo apartment. Although being so close to the El Chorrillo/Santa ana neighborhoods initially tested the limits of our comfort zone, we were won over by the area's amazing array of restaurants, stunning architecture and wide variety of art galleries and interesting souvenir shops. Just wandering the cobblestone streets was one of the highlights of our trip, and everything is within easy walking distance. The steakhouse right around the corner is superb, and there's a handy small corner store there as well. Venture down avenida Central to the big supermarket if you plan on cooking your own food in the well-stocked and thoroughly modern kitchen of the apartment (not that we ever needed to with so many amazing restaurants to choose from!). The apartment is as beautiful as it looks on their website, if not more so. Very quiet, too. We never heard a peep from the other tenants. It's spacious, spotless, modern and has everything you could possibly need (including a computer, cell phone, regular phone, satellite TV and a selection of books, magazines, and Dvd's). Patty is so warm and welcoming, and only a phone call away. We highly recommend taking advantage of Rudy's tours while there.

What a way to stay in Panama City

Left on 02/20/2011 for a stay in January 2011

Patty and Rudy were absolutely fantastic...from picking us up at the airport to the accomidations we had in Casco Viejo. Rudy is an invaluable tour guide. The stay in Casco Viejo was great as the canal museum is there and is highly reccommended prior to going on any canal trips as it explains a lot about the history and you get a better understaning for the rest of your vist. Great places to eat around the various plazas with some great bakery shops up on Central avenue. The street market on Saturday on Central ave, away from the old city, was amazing. Great super market that way also. Getting Rudy for some tours...train to Colon and the guided tour afterwards to seeing the native indians was one of the highlights of the trip. Patty and Rudy will accomidate most anything you want to do. We spent the later part of the trip at thier bed and breakfast and wow...great breakfasts with great hosts. Great places to eat in the neighborhood. We can't say enough good things about our hosts...Patty and Rudy.

A perfect studio - stunning interior, great neighborhood!

Left on 01/09/2011 for a stay in December 2010

This was the first time we used "Flip Key" to find a vacation rental and our expectations were exceeded by the service of Patty and her husband, Rudy, as well as by the property itself. First and foremost - you can arrange for them to meet you at the airport (do it - it's the same price as catching a taxi). Even though our flight got in late, they met us at baggage claim and got us set up at the studio.

The studio itself is stunning. Huge comfy memory foam bed, spotless and totally equipped kitchen with everything you'd ever need (though we ate out most nights), exposed brick and tasteful art on the walls - it felt like a home away from home for us. In fact, we loved the color on the walls so much, we're going to try to match it for our bedroom at home. The room came with a laptop with wifi (!) and we had access to a cell phone for emergencies. (A really nice touch, though we never needed it.) Patty was only a phone call away if we needed anything.

We stayed in the rear studio so we were able to overlook real Panamanian life going on below us - a real treat. The building itself was lovely too - a open air, teak staircase took us up to our studio. There's also a sweet little enclosed patio. (I think the property owners should rally together to get furniture put in the courtyard! We would have loved to sit out there.)

Don't be scared of the neighborhood - it's splendid. It's a photographers dream. While there be sure to check out the hustle on Central ave. You can easily walk to the Mercado de Mariscos (Fish Market) in 10minutes and sample awesome ceviche. We spent our days wandering around trying food and bumping into new sights. (There is a neighborhood that tourists should not walk through nearby. No worries - you'll know...) The canal was a $10 cab ride away. Most places in the city were a $2-$3 taxi. (But for dinner we always stayed in Casco - the restaurants were amazing. Notably Manolo Caricol - don't miss it. There is also a very vibrant art scene in Casco. Very cool to see. One particular night all of the galleries were open and wine and nibbles were being served. We loved this neighborhood.)

Also - if you are thinking about doing a tour - Rudy has a wonderful tour company that can take you to villages, the canal, around town, to rainforests, etc. Just ask upon booking and Patty is very helpful. We took his tour to the Embera Village and even though it poured the entire time - we had a wonderful experience with Rudy as our guide and translator.

All in all, Patty and Rudy set the standard for us. It's going to be hard for any one else to live up to their hospitality. Skip a hotel - for the same price you'll have your own "home."

Left on 11/14/2010 for a stay in October 2010

This studio is spacious, extremely well-supplied, and adorable. As the pictures show, brick walls on one side, accent walls, gorgeous furniture (carved bird heads adorn the arms of the chairs) and all the appliances that one could want. The apartment is set back from the street, and on the third floor, so there was little noise heard from outside. The immediate area was safe and full of wonderful buildings, and Patty provided a binder full of instructions, recommendations and directions. I typically am tough to please, and do not hesitate to point out flaws in a rental. In this case, I have nothing to complain about. They went above and beyond expectations, with a laminated card to provide directions to taxi drivers, a cell phone (you have to pay to add minutes, but this was a great thing to have), and a good computer with internet access. This apartment provides a wonderful alternative to generic hotels, in a part of the city where high-end housing is difficult to find. I highly recommend this rental.

This is an amazing studio, in a lovely building. The decor is beautiful, the apartment immaculate, and you have everything you need for a short or a long-term stay, from pots and pans, glasses, and a wine opener, to a cell phone you can borrow. The owners have provided a little booklet with all the information you need, restaurant recommendations, tours, etc. (I'd recommend taking one of Rudy's tours ... They are great!). Patty and Rudy are available any time to answer particular questions and queries. And, they are so thoughtful. They even surprised me with a bottle of wine for my birthday! The apartment is centrally located and it's an easy walk from the town center (five minutes) and all the great shops and restaurants. As a single woman I felt perfectly safe there and would definitely book in again when in Panama City.
