Description from the owner
Close to the heart of Paris, next to the open and airy Canal St. Martin, this apartment is the perfect haven from which to discover the city.
Enjoy a nice walk or brunch along the Canal St. Martin and watch the boats go by. Within 10 minutes you can be at Le Louvre museum or the famous Galleries Lafayette department store.
Furnished and decorated in a contemporary style, the apartment is located on the first floor and has been entirely renovated as of 2008. All windows open to the inside courtyard so it is a very quiet place to rest. The building is from the early 1900s and is an example of true Parisian architecture.

Left on 04/08/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely apartment. Although we are use to american sized homes, your apartment was the perfect size for our family of four (two small children). The amenities were described perfectly and the short distance to the top Paris destinations was welcomed. We hope it will be available for our next vacation to Paris.

Very nice apartment, exactly as shown on pictures. Great location (close to subway and railway stations). You've got 4 bakeries in the same block, one just next to the entrance. We enjoyed fresh baguette and croissant every morning. Very comfortable bed with nice liners. Bathroom is very nicely done with spacious shower. Apart from that you've got everything that you need: wifi, phone, tv, DVD player with several classic French movies (with English subtitles ), travel guides, maps, hair dryer, etc.
It is quiet as well. Nice view on inner garden.Response from Amandine - 03/13/2013

Left on 02/25/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We made our initial enquiry via Trip advisor and had a prompt response and answer to our questions. We were travelling to watch the rugby with 3 children (18, 14 and 5) so we would have needed two hotel rooms and the apartment was ideal.
All our payments were easy to make and we received directions and instructions very quickly. We requested if we could drop our bags off early and this was accommodated with no fuss.
On arrival access was easy via the large gates and the photos in the welcome emails were a great help to know where to go. The apartment is off the road and overlooks a little courtyard.
We got easy access and keys. Tv etc. very easy to use and great WiFi after we got the new access password.
Everything is spotless and it's a decent size for our family so for a smaller family or a couple it would be amazing.
It is very close to Gare du Norde (10 mins via Gare de l'est) and Chateau Landon metro (4 minutes). If you want to bus it from CDG airport get the bus to Gare de l'est) so transport is a breeze.
Plenty of boulangeries local (next door!) and restaurants (again on next door!). Do use the local supermarkets they are great value and also PataPizza which does some great Pizza.
We departed after 3 nights and were lucky enough that we could leave our bags in the apartment instead of left luggage.
A great stay and Wales won the rugby so even better!Response from Amandine - 02/27/2013

Left on 01/21/2013 for a stay in October 2012
I often wondered what it would be like to stay in an inner city apartment in Paris. Amandine's beautiful apartment gave us the total experience. Within walking distance of the two major railway stations and the St Martin canal, the location cannot be faulted. The second floor apartment is superbly setup with a kitchenette and comfortable living area. Everything else you need is in the street outside, supermarket, bakery, delicatessan and a wonderful restaurant on the corner opposite the canal, we ate there twice, brilliantly run with very modest prices. We loved it here and we loved Paris!!

Left on 10/30/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We stayed in this lovely little apartment in mid-October after extensive research of Paris accommodation and reading many reviews. We were not disappointed! The location is fantastic, 60 seconds walk from a metro stop. Having been to Paris many times, I appreciated the location even more as the area, Canal St. Martin, feels like you're experiencing a more local, authentic side to Paris without being too far from the centre of all the excitement the city has to offer. The apartment was clean and furnished with everything you could hope for. We thoroughly recommend an option such as this, rather than a hotel room, as it feels much cosier and provides a much more comfortable space to relax. Amandine was helpful and pleasant, and even called on our second day to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. All in all, a great stay in Paris, and thoroughly recommended. Merci amandine & Matt.

Hi
We stayed in amandine's 1 bedroom apartment for 4 nights in august. There were 3 guests including a teenager. The bakeries and local restaurants are plentiful and convenient.
Pros:
Clean, well equipped, close to metro stop, good storage, helpful hostess
Cons:
Area is sketchy (graffiti on walls), multicultural working class neighborhood far from tourist attractions -

My wife and I stayed in this apartment for one week. It is within walking distance of Gare du Nord, the station for trains to/from CDG. It was quite comfortable, and very quiet, with windows opening onto a courtyard, which was important to us. It is one flight up - just stairs. There are very good patisseries, cheese stores, fruit markets, wine bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Although "off center" for tourist Paris, the metro is two minutes away, and two more lines are 7 minutes away. It was fun to walk along the Canal and the area felt safe to us.

Left on 05/06/2012 for a stay in April 2012
My girlfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights while visiting Paris, and had a great time. We felt really comfortable in the apartment. The bed was nice, the kitchen worked for us, and the shower was great. The travel binder that amandine has in the apartment was really useful, and we used it a lot. There were some great bakeries nearby, and some really good restaurants (our favorite was "Les Enfants Perdues" about a 5 minute walk away. The apartment wasn't right in the heart of Paris, though it's right next to a metro stop so getting into Paris was easy. At nighttime, the nearby streets felt a little sketchy, but overall we felt safe in the area. We just wish we had more time to spend there! We definitely recommend this apartment rental.

I am a little late in leaving a review for my stay in October 2011 but already thinking about booking again for next year which is prompting this review. We had such an enjoyable stay. This apartment is perfect for the tourist who wants a real 'Paris' without feeling too much like a Tourist. The apartment was immaculate, had all mod cons, comfortable and modern with the added bonus of cheap supermarkets closely, a bakery and good restaurants close by. The location was good and felt safe at all times. Easy access to metro and within walking distance to Notre Dame.
Stayed with three adults sharing (one couple and an aunt who took the sofa bed in the living room). Easily accommodates for three adults. I definitely intend staying here again when next visiting Paris.Response from Amandine - 04/29/2012

The apartment was very clean with all the amenities we needed (plus some) for our stay. Amandine was very helpful and even called to check in with us to see if needed anything. The bed was comfortable and our kids had no problems with the pull out couch and roll away bed. There were thorough instructions on everything in a nice book in the apartment including easy to follow directions to all the main monuments. We would definitely try to book it again if we are able to return to Paris!

Left on 03/07/2012 for a stay in February 2012
It's really hard to find a fault in this apartment! Amandine gave us perfect instructions for everything (from getting into the apartment to operating the French washing machine) and was really helpful when we had a question about the DVD player. For two people, the apartment is perfect! We were so comfortable and close to everything- a 2 minute walk to the Metro and supermarket, surrounded by delicious bakeries (our favourite was the one on the corner at the Chateau Landon end of the street, their sandwiches are amazing!) and a short walk from the lovely canal. Everything worked, the decor is fun and there's a good little collection of French films. We really had trouble leaving! Now that we've found this apartment, neither my friend nor I will stay anywhere else in Paris. As it was winter, the apartment's rental rate was reduced which brought it into the top end of our backpacker budget! It was a real week of luxury for us.

My husband, my daughter and I stayed three nights in amandine's flat. Everything was as advertised: a cozy flat in a quiet courtyard located in a fantastic area. Pretty boutiques, and interesting spots for photographers. We had wonderful dinners at Le Chansonnier, but you are spoilt for choice around there. And the stroll along the canal was our way to conclude the soirees in a very Parisian way.
We liked our stay really very much, and we hope to come back again.

The apartment is in a great and friendly location in Paris, right near a connecting Metro line station - making travel around the city quick and easy. Whilst the apartment is petite (like all in Paris), it is still very clean and nicely furnished. It provides all the creature comforts we needed that a hotel did not, including washing machine and dryer, compact kitchen, fold out sofa bed and comfortable main bed and shower. The apartment could sleep 4 adults but would be tight!
The amandine is friendly and easy to deal with. Recommend to all and have already had friends stay after my visit. -

My husband, I and our 3 children were very fortunate to be guests at 9, rue Eugene Varlin 75010 Paris from 10th - 13th Dec 2011. The booking process was simple and fast and the rate was reasonable. We managed to find the apartment in no time, thanks to the good and clear direction given. On arriving there, taa daa...we found everything in the apartment as in the photo. Even though it may be small for 5 people, but we were compensated. Everything we needed was there, the wifi was a real bonus, and everyone enjoyed it. Though sad not being able to meet up with the host, Amandine, we were neverless delighted and touched by her warm hospitality. She surprised us with a new bed for the 5th person (in the listing the apartment sleeps only 4). The apartment is conveniently located, very near the metro station, with many eateries, bakery and convenient stores around which were of great help. Thank you for taking us in, Amandine, we will not be looking for other accommodations for our next Paris trip, 4 days in Paris was just not enough. We have already passed the good words around about this apartment ?

Amandine was a wonderful host. Directions to the location as well as picking up the keys were laid out easily and wonderfully to us in email. When we got to the apt, there was a handbook for us filled with restaurant recommendations, tourist sites and directions on working the nespresso machine, etc. Everything was done wonderfully. The place itself is very clean and very comfortable for 2 people. The location is also very convenient- a 3 minute walk to the metro station and very close to the canal. The canal is really nice and quaint and a good place to get away from the usual tourist crowds. We will definitely stay here on our next trip to Paris!

Amandine was a delightful lady & a wonderful host. We arrived later than expected due to airport delays which meant amandine was not available to meet us with the key but left it for us. She had a key safe installed while we were there which will allow people to access the key from a secure location whenever they arrive.
The apartment was a lovely surprise.Fresh & bright. Better even than the photos on the internet. One floor up, easy wide staircase. Space has been very cleverly used in the apartment. Would be a little cosy for 4 adults but 2a+2C would be fine.
Large bedroom, large shower in bathroom. Washer/drier, large safe, full kitchen.
Couldn't understand the instruction book for oven(in French)so didn't use it. Amandine was still in the process of writing instructions out in English for appliances. She did help me with the washer instructions via phone. 2 french windows in bedroom & living area that opened over courtyard. Great having wifi. 4 or 5 English channels on TV. Located near local shops for groceries. Metro 3min walk. Gare du L'est bus station 5 min walk. Gare du Nord 10 min walk where we caught the train to & from the airport.
Canal St Martin great for a cruise or to walk along. We only used the metro once early morning. Otherwise get a good map & comfy shoes & it's not hard to walk anywhere, just allow plenty of time & enjoy the sights. Plenty of guide books in the apartments to use. A few local restaurants to try. 2 bakeries either side of the apartment building. No noise to disturb sleeping. Amandine dropped by a couple of times & we dropped by her work place to help my husband with something.
Overall a lovely experience in a modern apartment. I have already given a work coleague details of the apartment. -

Left on 06/30/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We spent 5 nights in amandine's lovely apartment in early June. Although the apartment is small, it has everything two people could want, a comfortable bed, all new furniture and fixtures, free wireless internet, and free direct-dial phone to the us. Plus amandine went out of her way to make us feel comfortable, she met us personally when we arrived, she explained how to use all of the appliances (we've had trouble with washer-dryers other European apartments we've stayed in), she went out and bought extra English-language guidebooks for our convenience, and she supplied us with enough coffee to keep me going for the whole 5 days. The handouts she provided with information on how to get from the apartment to Paris' major sites were also a plus. (We walked most everywhere from the apartment but we consider seeing the city as important as seeing the major museums, etc. If you care, it's a 45 minute to an hour walk to the Louvre from the apartment but it's only a few minutes by Metro.)
Although the area is not a tourist area, there are many good restaurants close by and the boulangerie downstairs is very good. There are grocery stores within a couple of blocks walk and the Canal St. Martin is only a block away.
I'd recomment this place to anyone and would certainly stay there again.Response from Amandine - 07/01/2011

My mother and I stayed here for a week mid-May and our experience really couldn't have been better! The security of the building made traveling abroad less stressful in itself. The apartment was clean and well stocked with the basics. The location is perfect! Surrounded by lots of cafes and boulangeries which made dinner choices after a day of site-seeing a breeze. It's just a sort 10 minute walk to the closest Metro station and a 20ish minute walk to the nearest L'Open Bus Tour stop! Close enough to everything to make transporting simple, but far enough away to appreciate the beauty that France has to offer without getting caught up in touristy things. We will definitely be back to see what we did not get a chance to of this city, and when we do, we will be checking the availability of this apartment. Thanks so much, Amandine, for all of your help and assistance! And, of course, the bottle of Champagne that you left for my birthday :-)

Amandine is the most wonderful host! She met us at the apartment when we arrived and showed us how to use the coffee machine. Then she took us for a walk and showed us the close supermarkets as well as the bakeries and special cheese shops. Amandine was always available to answer any questions by phone or email. We called her to give us restaurant suggestions, and she gave us the name of a very nice restaurant close to the apartment. We really loved Paris and will hopefully come back one day. When we do, we will definetely stay at this apartment as it has everything we need. The internet and phone worked perfectly, and helped us keep in touch with family at home. The washing machine/dryer was also very convenient. Thank you amandine for making our stay in Paris so memorable! We will tell all our friends about this apartment, and hope to be back soon!

The apartment is small but has everything you could possibly want. Even free international phone calls to home! Amandine (our host) has thought of everything, right down to champagne and sweets on arrival, and espresso machine along with ample supply of coffee. Eventhough the Kitchen was tiny, it was all we needed. I particularly loved the fact that the washing machine dried the clothes also, so the washing could be put on when we went out and was all dry when we got back from our sightseeing. The location was quite good. After having stayed in close proximity to the Louvre previously, I was pleasantly surprised to find how easy it was to get everywhere from the apartment on the Metro which was just at the end of the street. We would be very happy to stay there again.

The apartment's location was handy not only to the main north paris train stations but also to the metro and buses into town. Although it was also possible to stroll up to Montmartre or down to the Seine, either along the canal or through the Parisian streets in half an hour or so.

Amandine is a cheerful and energetic young lady. She met us and showed us how to operate all the equipment and gave us tips on what to do and where to go. The apartment is decorated with all the amenities you may need. Washer/drier, microwave, refrigerator, and electric range. The water was nice and hot with a big shower, and the heater worked great for the 4 C temperatures at night. We had a great Saturday morning walk down the canal Martin all the way to Place d'la Bastille and it was very doable and pleasant. Metro service is just two blocks away, and plenty of restaurants and all types of stores are near by. Realize though that this is not a tourist area and you'll be living where working Parisians live and you will need to make use of the excellent Metro system to get to your desired destinations, but all within a 15 minute ride.
