Elegant & spacious apt at the foot of Montmarte

This charming apartment has been entirely renovated in 1950s Parisian style.

The spacious front hall (9 m²) is decorated with historical prints of Paris and has a large closet. This room leads to, moving anti-clockwise, one of the bedrooms, the living room/dining room, the kitchen, and the bathroom.

The first bedroom (15 m² – southwest facing) overlooks the inner courtyard. Decorated in an elegant palate of pearl and gold, it is comfortably furnished with a double bed (160 cm wide) and two bedside tables. A Louis XV-style dresser, a marble and wood lady's writing desk, a large armoire, and several chairs complete the set. At t...he back of the room there is a door to the living room.

The living room (31 m² - northeast facing) overlooks Rue Pierre Fontaine and is decorated in shades of mauve and yellow. On one side of the room, there is a round dining room table with six chairs, and on the other, a grey velour sofa and two matching armchairs, as well as a fireplace over which hangs a large mirror. The room is very cosy and luxurious.

In the living area, there are French doors that lead to a small boudoir (16 m² - northeast facing) that is furnished with a daybed (90 cm x 190 cm), two small tables, a wardrobe, and two armchairs.

The second bedroom (12 m² - northeast facing) is accessed via the boudoir. The room is decorated in dusty rose and has a 140 cm bed, bookshelves, and a closet. The adjoining bathroom has no windows.

You can also get to the bathroom (5 m²) from the living room. The retro-style bathroom is fitted with a bathtub with shower, a sink, and a washing machine.

The toilet (0.95 m²) and kitchen are accessed via a recess (4 m2) in the front hall.

The kitchen (8 m² - southwest facing) is decorated in 1950s vintage style (red and grey Formica furniture, yellow earthenware, and black and white checkered tiles) and is well equipped (fridge, freezer, dishwasher, oven, microwave, cooktop, and all the cooking and eating utensils you’ll need). The Fontaine apartment is situated in La Nouvelle Athènes, a neighbourhood steeped in a fascinating history that lies at the foot of Montmartre.

While the district was originally developed for the up-and-coming classes, intellectuals and courtesans were attracted to the area for its lively and eccentric feel. The neighbourhood became a hub of romanticism and, by the 19th century, a community of prominent artists populated the area. Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, Edgar Degas, and André Breton are just some of the famous artists who resided on Rue Pierre Fontaine during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The eclecticism of the period lives on in the beautiful mansions and performance venues, the skeletons of old cabarets, and dance cafés where Parisians would go to mingle with the riffraff. You can experience the area's energy and excitement firsthand on and around Boulevard de Clichy, near Place Pigalle. Strolling past the Moulin Rouge, it's easy to imagine Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec making his sketches of French can-can dancers.

Montmartre sits just behind the Moulin Rouge. In mere minutes, you are in Montmartre village, so unique and bucolic you'd almost forget you were in Paris!

  This studio was very nice and the photos accurately depict the space. The only drawback for some may be that WC is very small and the door cannot be closed while in use.
