Gaîté-Montparnasse has a typical Montparnasse apartment/studio layout (in fact, an artist’s studio adjoins the apartment). This large, ground floor, open-concept space has big windows looking out onto the garden, guaranteeing total privacy and tranquility. The apartment is accessed via the garden (18 m²) in which you'll find a table and four chairs and where you can enjoy your meals on nice days. The garden also helps keep the apartment cool in the heat of the summer. The main room is spacious and bright. An openwork bookcase divides the space into two separate areas: the living area on the left, done up in sunny col...ours, and the kitchen area on the right. A wardrobe stands opposite the front hall. - In the living area, a yellow sofa and fireside chair sit around a nest of coffee tables. Several bookcases and storage units complete the space. There are two long white desks with two chairs facing the windows. There is also a television. - The kitchenette is fully equipped with all the modern conveniences (oven, glass ceramic cooktop, refrigerator, washing machine) and all the cooking and eating utensils you’ll need. During the inter-war period, Montparnasse was Paris's cultural mecca. Countless theatres, artists’ studios, and famous brasseries and restaurants, are a testament to this lively district's intellectual history. The apartment is only a few minutes’ walk from Boulevard du Montparnasse, the district’s main artery, with its many shops and historic brasseries such as the Coupole, the Dôme and the Rotonde, made famous by the great artists and writers that used to frequent them, such as Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Man Ray. Rue de la Gaîté, within a stone's throw of the apartment, is spectacular at night as the streets fill with pedestrians strolling among the theatres, restaurants, and novelty stores. Despite being smack-dab in the middle of the action, Rue Froidevaux is surprisingly peaceful. It runs along the Cimetière de Montparnasse, the resting place of bohemian celebrities from the 19th- and early 20th-centuries. The apartment’s central location makes it easy to get around Paris quickly.
