Charming, historic home on Main St.

Left on 02/24/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Starting out with the positives, this home is in a great location. Up at the end of Main St it was really easy to walk to all spots on Main for dinner, drinks, shopping, etc. Also, the linens provided were of good quality and the heat worked pretty well throughout the house except for the main level master. The garage with extra supplies like paper goods, trash bags, salt for ice, etc, were a definite bonus. The concierge was nice, sent directions ahead of time and met us at the home to help us get situated. Hot tub worked well, though it only seats 3 and the water was greenish, our wives would not even get in it. We had a few issues with the downstairs shower and the owner came over when we were out to get it useable. All in all it is a charming historic home built in the late 1800's.

We were a bit disappointed that this home was not advertised as a historic home. We were expecting a modern home with modern conveniences and appliances. The pictures of the home really give it a large and updated feel which is not the case when you walk in. For my personal comfort, the really cheap coffee maker, weird/small European refrigerator, poor working/small stove and poorly working clothes dryer were sources of disappointment as well. The upstairs master bedroom has a tub only so there are just 2 showers in this home. Not a big deal for some but makes for lots of waiting with a larger group and a little more difficult to get up and get out to the slopes.

So the internet is a complete joke and should not even be mentioned in the listing. When we arrived we found out that we are actually sharing the DSL internet connection in the owners home about 75 yards down the street. There is a relay in the home to help boost the signal distance but in the end you are connecting to a far away wifi and sharing the bandwidth with another household and all of their devices. At best it was a dial up grade connection and we all had to turn wifi off on our phones and just use our 3G connections to get web pages to load. FaceTime with our children and family back home was impossible and the laptops we brought were a waste of space.

The front door... It is a beautiful and historic landmark, so nice, that you can't use it. Yep you have to use the side door, which works better anyway b/c the front door opens right into the front bedroom. Again, something you would possibly expect if the home is advertised as historic. Historic homes in my opinion come with certain quirks.

I would recommend this rental to a friend but I would want them to have full disclosure first. Also I would push for them to get a better price. It seems as though they are basing their price on number of people they think you can cram into this small 2 story home with a loft. Not worth the price in my experience with PC. Stay a block or two off of Main, get a larger and more updated home for less. I hope this helps someone else from making the mistakes we made in thinking this was a large and updated home. It is truely a lovely historic home and it needs to be advertised as such. The property management asked me to write a review in their exit paperwork so here it is. They also asked if I would like for them to call me about any concerns I had during my stay, I asked them too, they did not.
