A Lovely Getaway for a Group of Ladies

Left on 06/07/2012 for a stay in April 2012

      What a beautiful property!

Our group consisted of 10 women, looking to get away for a few days. The ranch is a few miles off of Old Creek Road, and so quiet you feel like you're the only people around.
When we arrived we were met with warm fresh baked cookies.

The bedrooms are very quaint and although we didn't need them, they struck me as being something kids would really love (2 of the ladies in our group are planning to bring back their families). The kitchen was great for group cooking, we cooked there both nights and had all we needed, including a lovely pre-set dining table.

We are active women, so we hiked each day around the property. A hike up the hill was not easy but at the top you can see the coast.

If it's wine you are looking for, Old Creek Road takes you up to some really great wineries. It was a hot day, so after winetasting a dip in the lap pool was a must.

I would recommend this property for family reunions or large group trips.

Left on 06/07/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Our women's group from chuch spent a fabulous weekend at this lovely ranch. We have been many nice places over the years, but none as sweet as this. The women raved about the house, the scenery and the kind hospitality. They don't want to go anywhere else now! Looks like we'll be frequent visitors. :)

      70thbirthday party

Left on 02/14/2012 for a stay in February 2012

There is no better place on the planet. We had 5 couples and 2 single men come from all over the us for my 70th birthday blow out. It is beautiful, comfortable, classy casual and fun all wrapped into one package. Thursday evening it was Ginny and ne along with our out of town guests and had about 15 for dinner. When we got there Susan had set the table, provided fresh oranges, avocados, and flowers from the ranch along with plenty of firewood for the outdooe fire pit It was a+++.

Friday evening family alsong with friends came and Susan recommended a caterer who provided fabulous Mexican Food for all. We used the sound system for dancing along with some family entertainment and had a party from 6-midnight as old friends and family from as far as Virginia got reconnected.

Saturday we had a barbecue from a caterer that Susan also recommended and all was perfect. There were about 60 for a late afternoon dinner The party started at 2pm and with the exception of those who left around dark we enjoyer ourselves until around 11pm.

Sunday was Super-Bowl and about 15 of us remained to watch the game after a long hike around the ranch along with a ride Susan provided around the ranch and I got to take some of my grandsons to the fishpond.

I have had calls from our out of town friends since they left and several stated it was the best place they had ever seen for a family or special event. There will be reviews posted by some of them on the next few days. Also one of my oldest friends is in a wheel chair and he was able to fully enjoy the entire experience.

Looks like our son now wants to get married at Cottontail.

      The Best Family Vacation Ever

Left on 01/23/2012 for a stay in December 2011

My family reserved the Cottontail Tail Creek Ranch house this Christmas, and had the most wonderful experience imaginable. We were 6 adults and 6 children, ranging in age from 1 to 9. Every need was met and exceeded, starting with our arrival to a house fully decorated for the holidays, with even the right number of stocking hung "by the chimney with care.”

The house is welcoming, wide open, comfortable and fully equipped. We found everything we needed in the kitchen as our meals ranged from pancakes to Christmas turkey and the fixings, and we delighted in sending the children down the hill for fresh oranges for juicing every day. Our city grandchildren had a freedom to explore which they had never previously known. As for the adults, our happiness ranged from daily hikes throughout the beautiful hills of the ranch, to sitting out on the expansive patio, with glasses of local wines, as we watched the children play. Though it was too chilly for the swimming pool, we took full advantage of the hot tub.

Susan, our host, was as welcoming as the house. A highlight of the week was a tour of the ranch from the back of her truck, as she navigated the hills and we watched one breathtaking view after another. We tried to catch fish at a pond on the property, though no one really minded our lack of success. When we felt an urge to roam further afield, we enjoyed the nearby coastal towns of Cayucos, Morro Bay and Cambria - but we always breathed a sigh of relief when we turned on to the road that took us "home.” An indication of our happiness with our entire experience is that my husband and I plan to come back without the family next winter and spend a month in the area. If this house fits your criteria in size and price, look no further. You have found a taste of heaven.

Great stay for a large group

Left on 01/19/2012 for a stay in September 2011

We had a group of about 15 stay here and it was amazing. Tons of sleeping space, wide open floor plan, an amazing pool, 2 hot tubs, and Susan brought us oatmeal/chocolate chip cookies and hung out for a bit. Very welcoming. I find that with a lot of rentals, the landlords are super anal and act like you're there to ruin their house... Susan was quite the opposite and made us all feel comfortable. I'm heading back in a month with another large group for my birthday... can't wait!

      Fantastic experience

Left on 11/12/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Seven couples held a Tuscan cooking school reunion at the Ranch and the facilities were just great. We cooked for three days and wine tasted at several close by outstanding wineries such as Villa Creek, Denner, RN Estate, McPrice Myers, Clayhouse and Turley. Susan was so helpful and even joined us for one of our Tuscan dinners. We even had a Bocce Ball tournament. All seven couples loved the luxury accommodations. We would do it again at the Ranch anytime.

Stunning weekend at Cottontail Creek Ranch

Left on 10/24/2010 for a stay in October 2010

We took 6 adults and 8 kids to Cottontail Creek and had a wonderful family vacation. The location of the property is simply stunning with magical views across the valley and to the hills beyond. We loved the magnificent kitchen and dining area, the large pool was perfect for kids and adults, and the firepit was superb for smores. Picking oranges and making fresh juice was a highlight but the kids favorite was the truck ride with Susan and Roger ending with a ride on Pumpkin the nanny of the herd. Susan and Roger are perfect hosts and have created a memorable treat for all to enjoy. We'll be back !

We stayed with 2 other families in this wonderful house. The setting is breathtaking and the house is perfect for several families or a big extended family. Not only are the physical aspects of the location perfect, but the hospitality and warmth that Roger and Susan provide make this a one of a kind vacation spot. We felt instantly at home with welcome we received from the Lyons. I can't recommend Cottontail Creek Ranch highly enough.

Cottontail Creek Ranch was the perfect spot to enjoy quality time in the beautiful outdoors with our friends and family. Six adults, two teenagers, and nine children easily and harmoniously fit into the spacious ranch house. We enjoyed hiking, fishing, kayaking, swimming, surfing -- even ping pong! Highlights of our stay included making fresh squeezed orange juice every morning, and having smores around our own campfire every night after dinner.

      What a Fabulous Place!

Left on 10/12/2010 for a stay in April 2010

We learned about CTC on the Internet. We could not have imagined how fabulous this place would truly be. The house was comfortable, rooms spacious, kitchen and dining room couldn't have been better for prepping and celebrating. From the flowers in the rooms, to the beautiful table settings, to the fresh produce and home made cookies, the attention to detail was first rate. Four couples rented Cottontail Creek to celebrate our friend's special birthday. We could not have picked a better place or had a better time anywhere. Staying at Cottontail Creek was truly an experience of a lifetime. We cannot recommend it highly enough. We hope to be lucky enough to return there someday to celebrate another special occasion. From the house to the views to the very special service...we have nothing but raves for our experience and our stay.

Cottontail Creek Ranch gave us a wonderful base to explore this part of America. It provided all three families with space, comfort and plenty to do. We spent a day up at the lake which is etched in my memory as the children caught their first fish and all of them had a go in the boat!
The house has wonderfully comfortable beds and plenty of amenities to cater for all.
First class and Roger and Susan are extremely accommodating.

I have stayed with various groups of colleagues at Cottontail Creek Ranch at

hospitality, surrounding environment, etc., have been excellent. I

those who want a place where you can get away from the rat race, and truly

place to be. I highly recommend it.

A Family Reunion at Cottontail Creek Ranch

Left on 12/19/2009 for a stay in July 2009

For a family extending over 3 generations, it is a challenge to find a vacation home where there are enough interesting things to do to keep all 10 of us happy. Four years ago we found the Cottontail Creek Ranch (CTC) - and, frankly, we haven’t looked for another spot since! Here is why:
Foremost is the splendor of this undisturbed environment. Imagine driving inland, away from the Pacific Coast, and arriving at the end of a canyon in a circle of rolling hills, blond in Summer, contrasting with oak trees, enlivened by black cows you never find quite at the same place, and by hawks circling high in the sky. Straight ahead, the road stops in front of a farm building. After a sharp left turn, suddenly the colorful “party house” will emerge high on the hillside, stunningly alone. And once there, the only traffic noise you will hear is the one you make because no road traverses the hills.
Four years ago and still last Summer we were impressed by the beautifully paved terrace we had to walk through to enter the house. This is where one can sit in awe before the view, read, chat or rest on the lawn chairs. From there, when we entered the dining room, we found the table set for us and garnished with fresh flowers! Another surprise awaited us in the kitchen: plenty of oranges and avocados produced by the ranch. All during our stay, we felt that our hosts, Roger and Susan, wanted to make us feel “at home”.
Choosing our bedrooms was a fun exercise because of their different personalities. We enjoyed their comfort, as well as that of the hot tub nearby.
Day-time activities divided us into small groups: hikers, readers, bike riders, volley-ball or ping-pong players, beach enthusiasts, and wine-tasting explorers. However, in late afternoon, we always came back together to make dinner, using the antique barbecue available on the terrace rather than the kitchen ovens.
And later, when darkness fell, with stars that the city dwellers among us never see so bright, we sat around a big fire camp, roasting marshmallows, telling each other about our adventures of the day, identifying new constellations! This was the time when I felt we had all reconnected as a family.

      Wonderful rustic charm

Left on 12/18/2009 for a stay in September 2008

The location is ideal for a weekend getaway or a longer stay. Located just a short drive from San Luis Obispo in the hills overlooking the ocean it offers hiking with incredible vistas and entertaining interactions with diverse flora and fauna, both domestic and wild. The cattle, horses, orange and avacado trees blend in well with the many species of birds (red tail hawks and an occasional eagle were my highlights), deer, squirrels, and the odd coyote.
The house is spacious, clean, well supplied, and had internet service for those who need to feel connectead to the outside world. The hosts, Roger and Susan, are delightful, humorous, and helpful.

It has been perfect for our family reunions of 15+ people but also great for a smaller group. We love the quiet relaxing rural location, comfortable well equipped house, proximity to the beach, and the privacy that the owners give you while still taking care of your needs.

What we like best is the feeling of solitude as you look out over the rolling hills and quiet valleys and how it feels like your own home for the time your there.

The home and the location are one of the most spectacular places we have visited and we have traveled to many destinations. It was such a fun time having the shower for our daughter and also making it into a long weekend get together for our out of town friends and family. My only regret was that it was over too soon!
