MelbourneHidden Gem - But walls are very thin...
Left on 01/24/2013 for a stay in January 2013
R-Mar is hidden away from the busy main street in Patong. Being a resort it ticks all the required boxes with the pool, spas and massages etc.
The rooms themselves are quite nice with balconies. The bathroom is another matter though. There seems to be an oversight when they installed the bath/shower. If your not careful you can easily flood the bathroom floor as the glass panels surrounding the bath/shower don't connect to the bath tub. We ended up wedging towels into the gaps to prevent flooding from happening so quickly. We even wrote a complaint to the front desk which they took little interest in. The bathroom is also showing signs of aging. Just have a look underneath the taps...
Besides the bathroom, the walls between the rooms are very thin. So if your unlucky enough to have rowdy neighbors who come back at 3am in the morning making lots of noise then this place may not be for you.
Everything else is great though, staff are very helpful and the travel/tour agent next to the hotel front desk is top notch and will help you plan out day trips. -

Booked last minute after exiting Pattaya as soon as we could (ugh)
Arriving at the R-Mar is a bit worrying as you go down what could be construed as a "dodgy" street - how wrong we were - turn the corner and through the security and there you are in a lovely open space resort type hotel. By the way the "dodgy" street was nothing of the kind; just us over-suspicious Europeans.
We had reserved a standard room via Booking.com at just over 50 pounds per night including breakfast so to be honest was not expecting great things as we had just spent 8 nights at the Banyan Tree Phuket. We also included an airport pick up (700 Baht) which was excellent.
The room was spacious and modern with a good wifi connection and balcony. We had a view away from the sea overlooking Patong Town and the hills.
So; great bedroom (sigh of relief).. where is the catch --- absolutely none!
The whole experience was fantastic ! One day I was attacked and badly bitten by a dog - on returning to the hotel they drove me to the hospital and waited whilst I was treated - all at no cost!
The spa treatments are very limited but the pool is excellent. Breakfast includes an omelette chef.
The main shopping mall is 5 minutes walk away as is Walking Street and the beach.
I seriously can not recommend this hotel enough - in our opinion as seasoned travelers, one of the best value for money deals in Thailand.
I am quite happy to answer questions from anyone.
We will for sure return - a lovely experience -

I would stay here again, the rooms are a good size, beds are very comfertable, great pool and the service was great.only problem would be for older people or people with disabilitys, was having to climb into the bath tub to turn the water on for the bath.

Stayed at this place for 8 days, It is in the middle of everything in Patong Beach, 5 minute's MaX (walk) from everything!
The hotel staff are so nice and friendly and will bend over backwards to do anything for you!
I rocked up 4 hours early and they let me check in with a free drink on arrival, It was raining when I first went out and was given an umbrella! Security on site 24 hours and a good security entry system with a quality safe! English channels such as nat geo, discovery, and a couple of movie channels!
The room I stayed in I got on a deal site, and payed $48 aU a night The same room and service in australia, would easily be over $250
Room service took about 10 minutes max depending on what you where ordering, If you ordered a drink it was there by the time you had your money ready!
The pool and spa are very very relaxing with hotel staff coming to see if your ok for drinks or anything else you wanted!
I had a spotless room and fresh sheets daily, with room service only to happy to respond to your wishes by just leaving them a note!
Buffet breakfast daily, with a egg/omelet chef, included in your room fee, The eggs where to die for! my only complaint with the breakfast was the bacon, it was very average! 2 x bottled water daily for free! Free internet (or mini bar) but the internet is very unstable, when it was working it was OK though! (it would make you sign in with every tab you opened, and every youtube video you wanted to watch,(thank goodness for saved user name and password) speed was not an issue)
I will be coming back to Phuket and will book no other place than this!
Thank you R-Mar for a very great Holiday experience!
Oh if you order there beef burger from room service and your a westerner like me, ask for sauce, Otherwise you may think its a bit dry, beautiful burger but! -

Le Mesnil-Esnard, FranceTres Bien place Dans Patong pour sorties nocturnes ET shopping
Left on 10/02/2012 for a stay in February 2012

The hotel is down a side street, but never felt unsafe walking there even in the evenings. Also, it is a decent walk to the beach.
The pool is nice and refreshing, although it closes at 7 pm. So, an evening swim is not allowed...in an area where everything seems to be allowed?!
The breakfast is great. Lots of options and they keep it replenished (which we found was not the case at many hotels we have stayed).
The rooms are really nice, with some cool night time lights, that give the room a cool glow in the evenings. The bathrooms are large and the shower has the rain head shower head.
The staff is friendly and the travel concierge is super helpful. The annoying thing was the nickel and diming--for example: If you have a taxi you specifically want to use (and trust), they will charge the equivalent of 50-cents to call that taxi for you. I needed ice to put on an infected bite and was going to be charged the equivalent of $1.35. Frustrating, when you are already paying a premium to stay here--but again, we did liked it here.
We stayed here before heading to the islands of Thailand and liked it enough to stay there again for two nights upon our return before flying to Singapore.
All in all, we liked it! -

It is an average place to stay. But if travelling with small young children then not a good decision. The staff is very rude, not friendly and also impolite. Hospitality industry means that one has to be courteous and careful about your guests demands. But I guess nothing like this we experienced here. The food and location is good.

The resort has a great location, in the heart of Patong, yet calm and peaceful. The rooms are spacious, new and well maintained. The beach is a 5 minute walk from the resort. You can rent a bike for as little as 200 THB/day from the resort. The pool is big and clean and the complimentary bar in the room is a good gesture. The staff is helpful and speaks good English (compared to Thai standards).
The only downside is the lack of options for breakfast, especially vegetarian options.
Overall, good place to relax in Phuket. -

Central location, no noise, can be considered as clean. Horrible breakfast, empty Hotel-bar and empty Restaurant (The breakfastroom is the Restaurant. Lot of staff but no service. Thaifood missing. Fruits (Except Pineapple and unripe Papaya) missing. Marmalade (2 kinds) in portions - same for butter. Uncooked croissants. Toasting tunnel with 2 options: Burned or raw.
Concierge speaks very little Engish (no service).
Big Swimmingpool tht doesn't invite to swimm... First week the water was greenish - after complaint it was ok. Bath towels in bad condition.
No flowers in the lobby - rooms or Restaurant..
Seems that this Hotel needs a new Manager. -

I have stayed in other hotels in Phuket before and this one is my favorite so far. We were booked into another hotel which is a joke to say the least. Quickly made the switch to the R Mar and glad we did it.
We had 1 superior room with 2 twin beds and the Prince suite which was very comfortable with its own dinning room, sitting room, and large balcony facing the hotel courtyard/pool area. The superior room also had a balcony but not as big.
Cleaniness: hotel was kept very clean in most areas except for a few occasions when the cleaning crew would leave their carts in random locations. The rooms themselves were clean. We had a bit of a mess after coming back from the beach and upon request room service was more than happy to promptly clean it for us.
Service: As i understood the manager of the hotel has considerable experience and came recommended from a friend of mine who is a general manager of another local hotel. Front desk was friendly and helpful.
Location: 5 minutes walk from Patong beach. 5 minutes from Bangla road. Pretty much in the middle of everything but because of its design you dont hear alot of noise from neighbors or partying crews.
Value: it was a bit expensive but we were there during February peak season but i would pay to stay at this hotel again.
Comfort: There are two buildings right next to each other. One building did not have elevators which might make it a bit difficult on younger/older clients. Only 3 floors though. Make sure to request the elevator building if you have issues. Didnt really bother us. The rooms had all the amenities one would expect. Bed comfortable. Air conditioning was excellent.
Checkin: fast and painless
Few things to consider:
* Don't compare this to hotels in the same category or price range. This is always a recipe for disappointment. A 3 star hotel in Hong Kong costing $200 is not going to be the same as a 3 star hotel in Singapore for $300. Read the reviews and try not to stress out on your vacation.
** Patong is the party central for Phuket so it could be a bit rowdy for families. May not be appropriate for younger kids at night time around the Bangla road area. Also some people do bring the party back to their hotel rooms so it could be a bit loud.
*** Within the hotel compound on the way to the beach is a small convenient store. It's run by the hotel staff. Their prices are good and convenient. Support them when you can. Very lovely people. -

We booked two rooms for our family of 5 to stay here for 8 nights at the start of our asian holiday. At first I was confused when checking in having our passports taken off of the front desk when sorting through our paperwork for accommodation voucher and they walked off out the back office. I was a little upset about this until I had to question the reception staff as to why ?, it was only then I was informed that this was thailand protocol and I was ok with this. As our first overseas holiday we had no idea this happens and I think the staff need to inform guests in more detail as to why they need to do this procedure. We were originally sent to ground floor rooms in separate building adjacent to hotel, I wasnt sure about these rooms because upon entry they felt small and smelled like cigarette smoke. Upon entry we noted that the extra bed for child was missing, so reported this to reception and then they had to relocate us to bigger room to accommodate child in extra bed, in the main part of hotel on second floor. Much Much better. The rooms were fresh, over looked the swimming pool with balcony and was noticeably larger. They contained a flatscreen tv, barfridge, full size bath, loads and loads of storage. So our holiday started... The entire staff of the hotel were absolutely fantastic, friendly and cheerful. Everymorning our children (particularly Chelsea) were greeted by delightful restaurant staff for breakfast, which included, fried rice, sausages, bacon, fried potato, stirfried veg, there was cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruits such as monkey bananas, papaya, dragon fruit or watermelon. A cold selection of meats along with loads of choices of salads (for those who eat salad for breakfast?!!!) pancakes, muffins, a toaster for assorted breads and pastries. Selection of fresh juices, water and milk, staff approach tables for coffee. A chef is located at a table cooking eggs whilst you wait, with a selection of ingredients like capsicum, mushrooms, onions etc to make omlettes or scrambled just tell him what you would like - the omlettes are devine, the best on our holiday!. The rooms were cleaned and refreshed daily with fresh towels and toiletries. The airconditiong in the rooms were fantastic and worked extremely well to keep us cool. The swimming pool was beautiful and open until 7pm (wish to was a bit later like 8pm due to the heat) with a bar located adjacent, you can buy drinks and even have lunch on the outside tables which we did, ordered a club sandwich - absolutely filling and very yummy, came with hot chips!. The hotel offered absolutely everything, the only thing I noticed missing that would be useful would be a small retractable line in room or balcony on which to hang your swimming clothes, shorts on after being in the pool. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well. The hotel is located close to lots of shopping, walking distance to Bangla Road and Jungceylon, and a short stroll to a great eatery called Nickys handlebar for a great burger. Orange restaurant is just outside the hotel gates and has great fruit smoothies and yellow currie. Our Chelsea loved saluting the guard at the gate every time we came and went from R-Mar and all after staying at the Hilton Singapore and Shangri-La Bangkok, we still think R-Mar beat them by far for friendliness, cleanliness and amenities. The R-Mar is highly recommend by us and we are now a customer for life, we loved staying there so much, we will return again soon.

SingaporeGreat place to stay!
Left on 10/10/2010 for a stay in October 2010
I stayed in this resort for 3 nights. This resort is unlike many hotels built in a high rise building with many many rooms/units. The resort has only 4 levels with garden compounds and a nice and clean swimming pool which give you a rather relaxing feeling. It is also near to the patong beach, jungceylon shopping mall and the famous bangla road which is all about 5-10 mins walk, depending how fast you walk. Although it is near to all the main attractions, the resort is situated behind the main road so it rather quiet and peaceful.
We booked a superior room but was upgraded to deluxe room for free when we reach there which was great! Our room was very clean and spacious with a nice flat screen TV. There is also a small balcony outside where u can sit down and enjoy the view outside and relax. We did not experience any noise disturbance during our stay (unlike some hotels where you can hear your neighbour coming back and going out of the room), it was all quiet except for the last day when our next door neighbour turned on the TV very loudly early in the morning. The breakfast wasn't that good but it has all the basics like bread, ham, bacon, eggs, cereals, yogurt, juices and fruits.
The service was also great. The staffs were friendly and never failed to help us with all our enquiries on the tour packages and we bought our island tours and other packages from them as the price quoted were fairly reasonable and we had made comparisons from other tour agencies. On our last day, our flight was late at night and the staff allowed us to use the swimming pool and provide us with towels and soap to shower even though we have checked out.
I would definitely recommend this resort to other travelers. I hope they can maintain the resort the way they are right now and I will definitely go back there again if I ever stay at patong beach again.
