Located only two blocks from Plaza Chica and Plaza Grande and only 1 block from the public market, Casa Espejo is ideal for those wanting to be able to walk in the downtown area rather than having to find parking. The large interior garden with fountain is a wonderful retreat from the hussle and bussle of this beautiful Mexican town. The avocado tree overhanging the back wall provides fresh fruits year 'round and shade in the early mornings. Breakfast in the sunshine on the portal or patio next to the bouganvillias while being buzzed by the numerous hummingbirds which visit the house.

Casa Espejo is situated just a short walk (a few blocks) to both plazas (big and small) in Patzcuarro. We stayed over Noche de Muertos/Dia De Los Muertos week and loved being able to stay with our dogs in a comfortable setting (with a large garaden area).
Unfortunately, those same dogs did not like the morning fireworks (cuhuetes) set off over the plaza at daybreak/early morning. The plaza being so close to the house was a nuisance in this respect...so if quiet is what you are looking for, look on.
The "on demand" shower downstairs was, at best, lukewarm...and we had to take showers upstairs, even though the temperature of the upstairs shower ran hot and cold at times.
Our caretaker let us in, gave us the keys, and was not seen until the day we left. During our stay I did leave voicemail for him, but he never responded. When I did see him the last day, he acknowledged that he had received the voicemail. A bit more "hands on" care during our stay would have been appreciated...if only to check in and see how things were going.
The DVD player is not functioning. It would have been nice to know this before trying to get the player (and all the hundreds of available Dvds there) working. We spent a fair amount of time trying to accomplish this...to no avail. A simple note saying "not functioning" taped to the player would have sufficed.
We had to change out the upstairs mattresses for the downstairs mattresses...they were not to our liking (too soft)...and even after the swap, we were still not satisfied. 7 days on not so comfortable mattresses is asking alot.
I speak fluent spanish and english, so language was not the problem. -

El servicio desde la reservación fué bueno. El Sr, Phil, es muy amable y aclaro todas las dudas que teniamos,la casa es muy bonita, tranquila, limpia y con todos los servicios es una casa para ser disfrutada, tambien esta muy bien ubicada, no es necesario usar coche ya que se puede llegar caminando a los principales lugares céntricos. Lo que más nos gusto fué el jardín y la sala con chimenea.Con gusto regresaremos a Pátzcuaro y a la casa Espejo.

Reserving the house was easy (on-line) and we had no trouble finding it. The house is spacious, with a nice garden and great covered patio with hammock and rockers for relaxing. The house was clean and we found most of the kitchen stuff we needed. The property manager, Juan Pablo was very attentive to our needs. The best part of this house is the location, just two blocks from the market and 3 blocks from either the large or small plaza, but it's still quiet because of the way the house is built (no windows to the street). We walked around a lot from home, rather than using the car (yes, there is an inside parking place for the car.) The only things we were bothered by were the very uncomfy couches (are those metal crossbars under our butts?),lack of good reading lights, and the hot water system that wastes a lot of water before the warm water comes. Still, we very much enjoyed our stay at Casa Espejo, although we would probably rent a smaller house next time for just the two of us.
