Travel yearly to Pensacola to visit family. Decided this year to try a vacation rental instead of hotel/dining out.
My FIL can stand, but uses a hover round to get around; had no problems navigating around the house (used the living room bed), although we did have to lift his chair up the few steps to get to the front door. (possible ramp in the future? hint hint) Getting in the bathroom was a squeeze, but he managed it well. He loved the fact he could go out the front door and around the deck to get to the back and its fabulous view without help. The fishing pier was also missing a ramp courtesy of the last hurricane we were told, so hopefully that will be replaced for our next visit. These two missing ramps are the only reason I'm not recommending for someone who is fully wheelchair bound.
If you're expecting new and modern, you'll be disappointed, but if you want comfortable eclectic and homey with awesome views, this suits the bill just fine. I thought having 1 bathroom with 5 adults would be a problem, but it wasn't. The kitchen is well stocked with small & large appliances/dishes; even my cook husband approved. My mil loved all the quilts she could wrap up in, as she gets cold easily. It was nice having a washer/dryer to boot.
There are tv's (never turned on), but no phones/wi-fi. Didn't miss either, as we spent 90 percent of the time on the deck just chilling. Bil made good use of both the kayak and the hot tub. The lack of a dining table did present a challenge; the bar inside only seats 3. Brought the small table from the back deck inside the house for family meals when it was too cold to eat outside and problem solved.
We didn't get a chance to meet Marty as she was away for our visit (Martha took great care of us while we were there). We did meet Bull & Sonny (Marty's dogs) and my FIL was delighted by all their attention.
Can't wait to book again for next year. The Gantner'sResponse from Marty - 05/14/2013

This is a relaxing and fun vacation spot. There are restaurants close by - can walk the beach to one - and important for me, pet friendly yet very clean. The owner - Marty - is gracious and will do anything she can to make your stay enjoyable. The home is very clean and spacious with very nice linens and kitchen supplies. While there are actually two vacation rentals at this location, you can maintain your privacy or choose to mingle on the beach. I rented the unit for 3 weeks and would definitely rent it again!

We stayed here with our 3 young children, golden retriever and another couple and had ample room (both indoors and outdoors). Marty is so friendly and accommodating. The cottage was extremely clean, comfortable and charming.
It had all the supplies we needed. It also has terrific views. We all enjoyed the sunrises, sunsets, dolphins and the kids were in love with all the big barges and boats that went by. The boathouse, kayak and hot tub were all icing on the cake for a relaxing vacation. So much beauty!
Everyone agreed the 3 king sized beds were very comfortable and the area is peacefully quiet. The only item we missed was a kitchen table for everyone to eat at - there is seating for 3 at the kitchen counter. And, provided the weather allows it, there is ample seating/eating space outdoors.
We are so appreciative she allows pets as this is also a pet's paradise! Marty's dogs were as friendly visitors as she was.
Overall, we were very impressed with the cottage. It exceeded all our expectations and we would love to return. We highly recommend it!

We stayed here with two couples and a dog. What a great place! We loved everything about it. Comfortable beds, easy atmosphere, cozy hot tub, furnished with everything you could dream up needing. We cooked, fished off the dock, took a fishing charter, ate out, played cards, walked miles, shopped, went siteseeing, and rested. We were only here a week and it was not near long enough. I found nothing to dislike and lots to like. Plenty of towels, sheets and all kinds of supplies that make you feel at home. You have fun entertainment nearby, but quiet solitude anytime you want it. Marty is the perfect hostess. Available, but out of sight anytime you want to be quiet. She knew great places to see and eat, and took me to church at the FloraBama Worship at the Water. It was an amazing blessing! Thank you Marty for sharing your little slice of paradise. We will be back...

Our stay at the cottage was perfect. Warm and inviting homey atmosphere. A place to get back to God's beauty here on earth. We saw Cranes and Pelicans and mullet jumping and ducks and the beauty only God can create. A perfect place to reconnect with family. The owner is wonderful and makes the stay even more satisfying. The owner is there if needed but basically leaves you alone to do "your thing" My husband and I mostly wanted to relax and that we did. I recommend this perfect place to everyone. The sunrise and sunset of each day was breathtaking. Sitting on the spacious deck or on the two deck boat dock was my place to be . Didn't even feel guilty just sitting in the swing or lying in the hammocks. Will go again for sure.

So relaxing, we rarely left the house. Most of our time was spent laying in the hammocks, or hanging out on the dock looking at all the wildlife. We even got to see a dolphin! Plenty of fish to be caught if you enjoy fishing. The dogs had a blast swimming. We enjoyed taking the kayak out to the islands and hunting for sea shells. It was a totally laid back relaxing vacation. Sunrise and sunset (especially from the hot tub) were amazing. No big waves here, (thank God or we'd never made it to the islands in the kayak) but you're 5 minutes away from the public beach if you are looking for waves to boogie board. Marty is very accommodating and very friendly. Blessed to have found this wonderful place and we will be coming back.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our get away time at Marty's cottage. Very comfortable, beautiful scenery and wildlife. The cottage was just right for our needs--family of 5 (youngest are teenagers.). Would have stayed longer if available and would definitely like to go again. Never thought I would want to go back to Florida, but have changed my mind because of this great place!

My husband and I were looking for a vacation rental that would permit us to bring our Yorkie. What we found far exceeded our expectations. We have been vacationing in Florida for a number of years, our usual place was a very nice condo in Panama City Beach.  Unfortunately, they do not allow pets. Sometimes blessings come in unexpected ways. Marty's place is exactly what we needed and we loved everything about it.  Marty and her staff are friendly and work hard to make sure your stay is comfortable. My husband enjoyed fishing on the pier and cooking on the grill. I enjoyed relaxing and just watching the water.  The view is spectacular.  Plenty of wildlife to enjoy including dolphins, pelicans, sea gulls and a blue heron.  The rental fee is amazingly small for everything provided.  We looked at a lot of different places before we found this wonderful gem. We will be frequent visitors.Â

My husband and I traveled with some family to stay here for the weekend. It was amazing and we all had a really good time. The house is beautiful and the view off the back porch is just breath taking. We were able to have a fire on the beach, do some fishing and crabbing, and we were able to go kayaking with the kayak they provided. In the afternoon and evenings we would just sit in the hammocks or in the hot tub and relax. The owner was very nice and friendly. I loved being able to meet them and spent a lot of time talking with them. They are lovely people who made us feel right at home and helped us make the most out of our time we spent there. We have all decided that we would definitely be going back several times. I would recommend this place to everyone who is looking to have a fun and relaxing weekend. You will also make new friends and the two dogs were a joy to see and play with :)

My family and I found this gem of a vacation rental after weeks of searching sites that only offered resort accommodations. Not only was the price more than reasonable, but I was able to save money by not having to put our dog in a kennel. I spoke with Marty, the home owner, and we were booked for a week stay in no time. I was given the number of Chuck, the property's manager, and he was most helpful with last minute help finding the property.
This Jamaican cottage is nestled away from the busy, touristy beach and is in the bay with its own private shores. My family and I enjoyed how secluded we felt. In the mornings we would use the kayak provided to paddle out to the tiny islands less than 5oo yards out. The water off the shore itself is only two or three feet for a good fifty yards or more, so my kids could play without major concern for drowning. During the day we would leave the house to frequent the attractions, which are only minutes away from the property. And at night we had a good soak in the hot tub on our porch.
The home itself seemed a lot like the bungalow we stayed in during our honeymoon in Jamaica. The furnishings are cozy and more of the country styling. Don't expect a super modern home with new appliances and furniture. It is however clean and convenient. Essentially every item needed to cook a meal is provided, including pots, pans, spices, and condiments. And there are two supermarkets only a mile away. The rooms have king size beds with lots of pillows. And lastly, there is a washer and dryer to help keep all those sandy clothes clean.
I highly recommend this home to any interested. Except of course, for the days that my family and I will be returning. I plan on staying any time we return to Pensacola, and I believe you will feel the same way. Be sure to have Chuck show you the property and all the raccoon sanctuaries. If you are lucky, you might even catch Marty visiting and get to enjoy a beach bonfire like I did.

Although my sister, her children and I came on the heels of a tropical storm, I have to say this vacation was a relaxing one! Once the weather settled down, the caretakers were cleaning up and providing anything we asked for...even some entertainment for the kids! Marty assured us that the kids couldn't hurt anything, which of course is a concern when staying in someone else s home. The kitchen was well stocked and we were allowed to use anything we needed. There's an amazing two story dock which we all utilized for fishing and just relaxing. We also used the kayak to visit the little islands. When you stay here, you're just minutes from the Perdido Key Beach. Loved, loved, loved this place and I will be back. Thanks Marty for sharing your home!

I would love to live in this quiet retreat. It is great for a vacation and plan to return every summer. For my husband and I, it is relaxing and for the kids, they can run up and down the private beach without worry. The intercoastal waterway is busy and fun. Take your jetski or just watch the barges and ships as they skirt between Mobile and Pensacola. You will often see porpoises as they make their way to and from the Gulf of Mexico. Go see it for yourself! It will be your summer delight!

Our family had a wonderful time in this vacation rental. Marty, the owner's daughter, was so pleasant to work with during the initial reservation. We had some unfortunate car problems on the way there, which made it even more relaxing when we finally did get there. We were so pleased with this cozy cottage that looks over the water. And what a view...you just can beat it. With sliding glass doors leading out to an expansive wooden porch, right off the living area, it made it a relaxing area to enjoy a peaceful morning for my husband and I to enjoy. Our teenage daughter and her cousin enoyed spending time on the dock, which has a relaxing hammock, along with swimming and using the kayak. We brought snorkeling gear, so that was something my husband did each morning, also. Then we would spend the rest of the morning watching for the dolphins, which we saw often, and chatting with our very gracious and friendly caretakers, Chuck and Laurie. Though we missed meeting Marty, we had such a wonderful time visiting with Chuck and Laurie. They have so many stories to share, it made each day so much fun. If there are any needs, they are right there to help you out with whatever they can do for you. What a blessing they were.
We were there to go to two of our niece's weddings, so we had family come and visit us almost every evening. Having the large patio overlooking the water was so perfect for all of us to just sit, relax, visit, and enjoy the view, along with the wonderful company. We, also, very much enjoyed the wonderful spa that was there. So relaxing, and you could sit and chat with whoever was in it, since it was right there off the patio.
If you love nature, this is a great place to stay. They have a raccoon preserve there, which was very cool to see; and we saw so many different water birds, including the ospreys that landed on the nest right by the water. We spotted sting rays passing by the dock, also. We just had so much fun looking for and enjoying all the different types of species all around us.
We did bring our two greyhounds along, which we loved having them with us, but though we did have a flea treatment on them, they still were bothered by the fleas. Chuck was able to send me to the area vet, who was so nice and so helpful, and we were able to give them a different treatment that was safe for them, which did help them alot, but I still needed to check them each time we would walk them. I'm sure each breed is a little different, so you would just need to be aware of what you need to do for that specific problem. Other than that, we loved having them there.
The inside of the cottage is adoreable. I call it "shabby chic". There are things that still need to be updated, but as Chuck and Laurie stated, it is a work in progress and they are working on getting everything just the way they want it. Believe me, it did not take away from the comfortable, cozy feeling we had while we stayed there. The kitchen is filled with everything you need, and since we had a big fish fry on one of the last nights we were there, we had many family members over, with a bunch of us in the kitchen fixing things, and we had plenty of room, space, and items to cook with.
I know this is long, but we had so much fun, and enjoyed ourselves so much, that there was lots to tell you about.
Thank you, Marty, for your cute, comfy, cozy place...and thank you Chuck and Laurie for your hospitality and your kindness.
p.s. Oh no...I can't believe I forgot to mention Sonny and Bull...our two other greeters every morning. Marty's two dog-pals. How wonderful they are, too. We had so much fun playing with them.
God bless you all. We miss you :) !
