Birmingham, ALAn OK, not great stay at Parrotopia
Left on 08/15/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Our family of 5 (my wife, our young daughter, my in-laws, and myself) recently stayed at Parrotopia for 3 nights. This was our second stay at the Purple Parrot complex, our first in this unit.
The complex itself has some advantages -- the pool is amazing, and that's the biggest asset. The tiki bar is no longer in service, but you can bring your own drinks/food to the pool, so no problems there. For the size of the complex, and of the pool, there aren't a lot of lounge chairs. Although we didn't see all chairs taken during our Sun-Tues stay, I could easily see it happening on a busy weekend.
The complex is not on the beach, so no sunset views or walking to the beach. I consider that a con; but as a tradeoff, it's cheaper than beachfront condos!
The location is still a bit of negative, for me. You feel a bit separated from the beachfront areas, particularly the Orange Beach (15 minute drive) and Gulf Shores areas (25-30 minutes). The Purple Parrot is really on the outskirts of Pensacola itself; the Walmart is only 5 minutes away. It feels more like "town" and less like "beach," if that makes any sense.
This unit didn't compare well to the other condo we've used at Purple Parrot, nor to the other condos we've rented in Orange Beach/Perdido in other complexes. Cleanliness was a bit of an issue -- many kitchen items (pots, pans, glasses) were spotted, stained, etc.
Linens -- particularly the towels -- were threadbare, and barely enough for the three bathrooms. Indeed, one of the full baths had no bath mat, and there was no hand towel in the downstairs half bath. Several of the towels had noticeable rips/holes, and all were as thin as could be.
This unit also had no close parking spaces -- at many of the town homes in PP, you can pull right up to the porch. Because this one is located on a curve, you can't do that. Nearest spot was ~100 feet away, and we often had to park further.
I wouldn't be in a hurry to stay at this particular unit again. -

Left on 04/05/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Parrotopia was my winter oasis for March 2012.
My children and granchildren enjoyed it immensely; on rainy days the indoor pool and exercise equipment were appreciated.
The proximity to Pensacola snd its attractions was another plus for us .
I so much enjoyed the beach walks, the nature trail etc.
We found it to be tastefully decorated .
Only thing I missed was a crock potResponse from Perdido Key Resort Management - 04/12/2012

Thanks for the review. Crock pot is now on the list for things that the owner will need to bring down when they come to the condo next time! Hope to see you again soon! Kindest Regards, JD Hallam PKRM Rental Manager

It felt like we were in the Bahamas with the oasis that surrounding us. The villa cozy and great. We weren't right by the beach, but it was only a few minutes drive away. The pool and surrounding area was huge and very tropical.

My stay at the purple parrot was different from the last experience in 2008 when I got married there. I found that the staff was still awesome but I was suprised to see that more condo's were built but was extremely disappointed that additional parking was not built as well. Otherwise our stay was nice.

This is our second time at Parrotopia, and this time we were here in summer and were able to take advantage of the outdoor pool and porches. The beds were great and we love the decor including the big purple couch. We even spent one evening playing scrabble. We will be back.

over all very nice place. I was very unhappy when my 7 year old left his ds games that he just got for his birthday and the management didnt get back to me. I still dont know if they found it or not. Really sad for my son he spent all of his money for the games and we know for a fact they were left there. The management did tell me that the cleaners were very trust worthy but not in our case.
Response from Perdido Key Resort Management - 08/20/2011
Manager
Thanks for the kind words concerning the place. It is regrettable that the games were lost, however I am perturbed regarding the questioned integrity. I personally walked through the condo, in addition to the housekeepers who have turned in things ranging from wedding bands and video games in the past, and found no ds games in the condo. I personally looked under all of the furniture, in the closets, in the couch, and everywhere else I could think to look. I am certain that I would have found the games had they been left in the condo. I want all of our guests to have a good time and favorable opinion of the resort when leaving which is why I try to go the extra length in a instances like these, however in this case the games were lost elsewhere as they were not in the condo. Would have liked to have a full set of dishes and silverware b/c we had to run the dishwasher practically after every meal since there were only 6-7 plates. The place was not ready by check in at 4:00, but otherwise, had no c/o and would return again.

I stayed with my family and kids, where was never a lack of things to do,was overall a great vacation, prefect distance from the beach, really enjoyed the passes to Johnsons Beach.Came here with a relaxed state of mind, only two things stopped a perfect rating and that was trouble with the ice maker & the window in the master bedroom caused you wake early (was actually great if you want to get an early start, just no sleeping in).overall great times...

Thanks for the review. We have had maintenance check the ice maker. We have had others mention the sunlight in the morning coming from the diamond shaped window, so after searching everywhere for blinds which would work for the unique window we invested in a large diamond shaped pillow. You cannot guess how often we come in following a departure and find the pillow in that specific window. I will keep looking for those special blinds! Thanks again for the feedback and we hope that you will be back soon! Kindest Regards, JD Hallam Rental Manager

This was our first time renting a condo - it was very easy and everything was exactly as promised. Resort was beautiful, amenities were perfect, location was so quiet but yet so close to everything. The home is gorgeous and exactly as pictured (actually felt much bigger than it looked in pictures). Kids have already put in their request to go back next year!

During our youngest daughter's fall break, we decided to take a quick trip to the beach. I found Parrotopia online and it looked great. When we arrived, the Purple Parrot and our villa, Parrotopia, far exceeded what we expected.
The resort management, J.D. and Lindsay, were wonderful from booking to checking out.
It's safe to say we found a little piece of heaven at Parrotopia. The accommodations were wonderful. It was especially nice to have the pass to Johnson's Beach from the owners. With this, we were able to have a beach almost to ourselves and celebrate our daughter's birthday on the beach. We saw a stingray, many dolphin and a huge crab in the water.
We had such a wonderful time that as soon as schedules are out for the next school yeat, we plan on booking the whole week!
If you are looking for a trip to the gulf coast, you can't beat the Purple Parrot and Parrotopia. -

My husband and I decided we needed a last minute late summer getaway. I reviewed The Purple Parrot online and decided it would be perfect for our 4 day stay. And, it was! Check-in was effortless...and our house met our needs. We enjoyed both the outdoor pool and indoor pool. Did not use the Tiki Bar but will when we return next year. We had a pass provided by the owners to get into Gulf Island Seashore/Johnson Beach. It was only 5 minutes away and quite beautiful. Can't wait to bring all the family back and rent several units close to each other. We are 60 years old and enjoyed the area, but it would equally be enjoyed by young and old alike. The action packed adventures for young families is a mere 20 minutes down the beach. We loved every minute.

We received the best service from the point of reserving the condo to the point of leaving something behind and having it sent to me. It was a very nice quiet comfortable location. We felt very secure. The Condo was beautiful! I loved the two pools and two hot tubs and the quaint little Tiki Bar. Everyone in Perdido Key was so nice and friendly. We took Lindsay's advice and tried the "Oyster Bar" for dinner, just down the street....it was delicious and we were able to see dolphins playing in the water from our table outside! I would have to say the only thing that I did not like....was having to leave and come back home to reality! Many thanks to everyone @ the Purple Parrot for all you do!

Left on 04/24/2009 for a stay in April 2009
We had a wonderful time, the unit was clean beautifully decorated and traveling with kids was laid out perfectly. I felt safe on the property. The weather was too cold for the outdoor pool, but the kids could not resist it so they tried for a short while. We used the indoor pool as well as the hot tub. My husband and daughters came down with a horrible rash from the hot tub. We spent a day at a walk in clinic, the Doctor diagnosed as a bacteria infection from the Hot Tub. My recommondation would be that you pay closer attention to the cleaning and maintaining of the tub. We've been home two weeks and she still has some of her rash. I would definately come back, but not use the Hot Tub again. Thank you

We absolutely loved every aspect of our 1 week stay. The accommodations were exceptional. The condominium was a true joy to all members of our family, especially our 2 children. All the facilities are well kept, well managed, and attractive. The staff is very caring and responsive to any needs. We felt like we were in Bermuda or the Bahamas. We enjoyed the pool and it is beautifully laid out and exceptionally maintained. The local beach is less than 3 minutes drive and you are close to many other activities and eating establishments. This was one of our top 10 vacation places we have been and staying here is what really made it that high. We have fond memories of our time here and will use it as a standard of comparison to others. All of us want to come back and I am sure we will.
